Notes: Campanello was at Englishtown in April for an eight-car show. His 9.05/150.50 qualified #4. He improved to 9.03/151.00 in the first round to beat Pat Musi's 9.21/147, but the car broke on the line against Carl Hobson in the semi-final. Don ran 8.98 at Great Meadows, NJ, 5/29/76. He qualified #6 at Suffolk Raceway for the Little Guy National Open in November with an 8.88/150.50. In the first round, he fouled and shut down to 9.59/105.38 in a loss to Pat Musi's 8.72/151. |

Notes: Best Engineered car at the 1979 NHRA Winternationals, where it qualified 8th at 8.731/155.44. In the first round, something broke and the car oiled down the track to a 10.04 that lost to Roy Hill's 8.82. At the Bakersfield March Meet, Tom qualified with an 8.70 but once again lost in the opening round. Due to a trailer breakdown, the team failed to make it to Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Tom attempted to qualify at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, but his 8.839/154.63 best was good for the third alternate. At the NHRA World Finals at Ontario Motor Speedway, Chelbana's 8.83/152.02 qualified #12. In the opening round, his 8.90/152.28 lost to "Dyno Don" Nicholson's 8.78/153. He finished 22nd in the NHRA season-long points chase. |

Notes: Ran 8.879/154.37 debut at 78 Pomona Winters. | John qualified on the "bump" at Ontario for the NHRA World Finals with an 8.85/154.90. He had one of the two Mopars that qualified for the field, and in the first round, the two were matched. Hagen got an easy solo and ran 9.02/151.77 to advance when Randy Humphrey broke on his burnout. But in round two, Hagen’s off-pace 9.03/151.77 lost to Frank Iaconio's 8.68/155. |

Notes: Hansen started the season by winning the Irwindale Grand Premiere race. It was an eight-car show, and his 9.02 qualified #5. Everyone, including Gary, probably thought he would lose to low qualifier (8.79) Roy Hill in the first round. But Hill fouled, and Hansen advanced. In the semifinals, his 9.04 beat another fouling Mopar—-the Duster of Randy Humphrey, who ran 8.97 in the loss. In the final, he faced the #6 qualifier, Mark Yuill. Gary downed him with a 9.07/147, while Yuill followed at 9.15/145. He was at Beeline Dragway for the Phoenix Winter Classic, where he qualified #9. That spot earned him the right to race low qualifier Warren Johnson in the first round. It wasn't much of a race, as Johnson's 8.89/153 easily covered Gary's 9.24/148.76. He qualified #5 for the eight-car field at the Bakersfield March Meet. But his opening round 9.05/148.76 lost to Larry Huff's 8.91/152. Shortly after that, Ontario Motor Speedway held an eight-car show. He qualified #6, and in round one, the eventual winner Dick Landy's 8.89/153 trailered the little Vega's 9.14/150. On May 8th, Gary was at OCIR for the NHRA Division Seven race. Humphrey fouled against him in the first round, and in the semifinal, he was late off the line, and his 9.00 lost to Kevin Rotty's 9.09. In mid-July, he was at Sacramento for its Fox Hunt race. It was an eight-car show, and in round one, he made an easy solo when Ken Tucker broke. He ran a great 8.90/151 in the semifinal, but it wasn't enough, as he lost to eventual winner Dick Landy's 8.87/153. Gary qualified #8 at NHRA Seattle at 8.881/151.26. He beat Mike Rendell in round one, 8.93/150.75 to 9.30/144.23. He lost to Warren Johnson in round two, 8.77/154.63 to 9.11/149.25. Gary qualified #13 at Ontario for the NHRA World Finals with an 8.977/151.26. He fouled against Richie Zul in the first round, who ran 8.914/152.28 to beat Gary's 9.051/150.75. |

Notes: Doug Wood had a very successful season driving Gary Pinker's Pinto in '75. The team did not get nearly the exposure that it should have. The team qualified #14 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 9.15/150.50. That alone was pretty impressive considering that he out-qualified such established drivers as Bill Bagshaw, Lee Hunter, Gordie Rivera, Mike Fons, and Kelly Chadwick, among others who failed to qualify. He faced "Dyno Don" Nicholson in the opening round, and "Dyno" had the performance advantage as he qualified with an 8.95. Wood gambled on the 'tree and lost, running a 9.27/148.76 while Nicholson moved into round two with his 9.00/153. Doug was at Seattle for the NHRA Division 6 Opener on May 31. A 9.10/149.75 qualified #3 in the six-car field. In the first round, he faced the similar Pinto of Mike Rendel. They may have looked the same, but they didn't run the same as Wood's 9.08/149.75 easily beat Rendel's 9.49. In the semifinals, he faced Dick Landy, and Doug got out on the Dodge driver and ran a 9.07/150.50, but Landy came by just before the finish to win with a 9.00/153. He was at Mission Raceway the next day, where he again lasted until the semifinals before he fouled against Mardy Maltais. The second NHRA Division 6 race was run at Edmonton near the end of June. Doug had set Low ET and Top Speed at 9.36/145.86 on his way to a final-round meeting with Pete Kost's Pontiac Astre. The two had a good, close race that saw Pete's 9.39/144 edge out Doug's 9.41/145.16 for the win. The third Division 6 race was run on July 20 at Bremerton. Doug’s little Pinto set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying #1 with a 9.05/153.58. The next closest qualifier was in at 9.20! But in the opening round, Doug fouled against #5 qualifier Gary Coe. He made things right at the next Division 6 race held just a week later (July 27) at Mission Raceway. There he dominated the race. His 8.96/153.06 in qualifying was Low ET and Top Speed. He then ran 9.01/152.02 over Maltais' 9.41/143, and in the semifinals, his 9.05/150.00 beat Rendel's 9.27/147. In the final, he faced Coe, and there was no stopping Doug this day as his 9.00/150.50 grabbed the victory over Coe's 9.55/140. It was a great showing for the team. Portland hosted the final Division 6 race on September 13. Doug looked like he was a sure bet to make the final. He set Top Speed of the meet at 152.80 during qualifying and, in round one, got an easy pass when Coe's Pinto broke. But in round two, Doug took a long nap on the starting line and watched as Gene McKinney’s 9.53/144 beat his almost half-second quicker 9.06/152.02. His next stop was at Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals. His 8.99 qualified #7, and he advanced past a fouling Jim Baker in the first round, with a 9.08/151.26. But in round two, he was up against Ken Dondero, who was driving Bill Jenkins Monza at this event. Ken’s 8.91/152 put the Pinto's 9.09/151.51 on the trailer. |

Notes: Former Arlen Vanke car. Charlie was at Englishtown in April for a Pro Stock Circuit race. The cars were run at NHRA legal weight and although he failed to reach the finals, he ran 8.99 and 8.96 at 152 mph. A few days later he was at the Cecil National Open where he ran 8.9 in qualifying and in the first round, he beat Richie Zul with a 9.07/151. He went on to reach the finals where his 9.20 lost to Bob Ingles' Vega. Early in May he was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships, but he fouled against Bobby Yowell in the first round. He was also at the CARS Magazine Meet at Atco, but he lost to the race's eventual winner Scott Shafiroff in the first round. At the NHRA Summernationals, he qualified on the "bump" with a 9.14. A first-round 9.09/150.75 beat Reid Whisnant's 9.08/151, but in round two he lost to Shafiroff. Like most of the other competitors from Englishtown, Charlie made his way to Maryland International for the US Pro Stock Open race on July 18. Unfortunately, the Duster broke in the first round. Also 9.09 at 150.75 at Englishtown. Qualified on the bump at Indy 1975 with a 9.22. |

Notes: Campanello started his season at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals, where his 9.03/149 qualified #6 in the eight-car field. He lost to eventual winner Kevin Rotty in the first round. Don ran really well at Pomona, qualifying #7 with an 8.808/153.58, but the race was rain-delayed, and he could not return for the rain date. Gainesville was his next stop for the NHRA Gatornationals, where he ran 8.84/155.17 to qualify #15. Another 8.84 at 154 in the first round, lost to Warren Johnson's 8.70/156. Don was at Englishtown on May 7th for the NHRA Division One opener. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field, and he ran an excellent 8.75 at just 141.23 in the opening round of eliminations. It just wasn't enough to beat low qualifier Richie Zul's 8.56/158. |

Notes: Also ran 10.37 at Wichita. | Royce won the third NHRA Division 5 race held at Oklahoma City Raceway on June 21. Only two cars showed for the Pro Stock class, so he faced Ed Terry for the eliminator final. Ed missed a shift while Freeman scored the victory with a 10.69/131.96. |

Notes: Yuill was driving this car at the OCIR Super Bowl in January. He ran a great 8.59/155.97. Mark was a first alternate DNQ at the Winternationals but had run his best speed of the year, 8.740/159.01. He qualified #7 at Gainesville with his best ET of the year, 8.570/156.79. Brad went to the finals there, taking the runner-up spot to Bob Glidden. Those were Mark’s only two NHRA national events of 1980. |
