Notes: Bob Hamric Chevrolet. Martin qualified #11 at Ontario for the NHRA Supernationals with a 9.64/139.53. His opening round 9.71/133 advanced over Jim Hayter, whose Vega broke. In round two, he beat Frank Iaconio's 9.73/143 with a 9.66/138.88. But a slowing 9.85/112 in the semifinal lost to Bob Glidden's 9.43/144. That was the team's only NHRA national event appearance. |

Notes: Animal Jim's legendary Mercury Zephyr Pro Stock was built by Chassis Craft (Greg Kaplin & Woody Mays) in 1979. This was the car that made Animal Jim a major match race star. From 1979 to 1990, it ran in every sanction, circuit, and mode possible. Pictured above is Animal Jim and "Zeke" at the 1980 AHRA Nationals at St. Louis International Raceway (now Gateway International Raceway) where he was the #1 qualifier. A week later he won Pro Stock at Cordova Dragway (Illinois) when he beat Jerry Haas in the final. Jim ran normally-aspirated Cleveland small blocks in 1979 and 80. |

Notes: Englishtown held its Pro Stock Bonanza race in April, and Castaldo was one of the eight drivers competing. Unfortunately, his off-pace 10.23/93.16 in the opening round lost to Wayne Gapp's 9.70/124. He came back out later to race in a couple of consolation races. In the first one, his 9.18/147.54 beat Rufus Boyd, and in the next race, his 9.28/147.29 fell to Frank Iaconio's 9.05/140. Charlie was back at Englishtown on May 5 for the NHRA Division One opener. His 9.51/143.31 in the opening round lost to Paul Blevins' 9.42/144. He failed to qualify at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Shortly after that, he was at Maple Grove for its All-American Pro-Series Opener. It was a sixteen-car field, and in the first round, his 9.50/144.00 advanced over Al Joniec's troubled Pinto at 10.23. In the second round, his 9.35/145.86 lost to Gapp's 9.11/148. Charlie was the first alternate at NHRA Englishtown, and he got into the show for "Dyno Don" Nicholson, who discovered a hole in one of his pistons just before eliminations. (times not available) but amazingly got into the show! I would love to know the story about why none of the higher DNQ guys didn't race. In round one, he lost to Bob Glidden, 9.02/152 to 9.72/144.69. Charlie qualified #13 at Sanair at 9.270/147.54 and lost to Bobby Yowell in round one, 9.16/150 to 9.608/111.73. He qualified #26 at Indy at 9.321/147.05, but this time, it was he who could not race in eliminations; Bob Ingles took his spot in the field. That was Charlie's last NHRA national event this year. Formerly Akron Arlen Vanke's Duster Pro Stock. Also ran 9.29 at Englishtown. |

Notes: Wash made a splash in the short time he raced Pro Stock with the former Mardy Maltais' Monza. He qualified at Pomona at 8.777/154.37 and went even quicker at Gainesville, 8.770/154.37. However, he lost first-round at both races. Billy did not qualify at Columbus (times not reported) and pr-entered for Indy. |

Notes: Andy lent this car to Wally to compete at the Winters after it looked like Wally would lose his AMC deal. Afterward, the AMC deal came through, so this car went back to Andy. Andy competed at the Gators and into early 1977 with the Vega, but then he and Dick Maskin formed the M&M Boys and sold the Vega to Fred (Shafer?) | BORT AKA Balls Out Racing Team! |

Notes: Mostly run as a match racer. The car was purchased from Scott Shafiroff. Early in March, Marriott was at Green Valley Raceway for some test runs. His best pass was 8.76/154. Shortly after that (April 16), he was runner-up to Lee Shepherd at the second NHRA Division 4 race at Green Valley Raceway. He qualified #4 for the eight-car field with an 8.85/152.80. An opening round 9.00/148 beat Shay Nichol's 9.18/145, and in the semifinals, his 9.07 advanced over Dave Atkins' ailing Vega. His final round 9.27/122.28 fell to Lee's 8.62/153. |

Notes: The third alternate at NHRA Pomona at 9.329/145.39, but made it into the show. Gave Don Nicholson all he wanted in the first round, but Dyno won, 9.26 to Bobby's 9.300/147.54. Injured in a motorcycle accident in March 1974. The seat was taken over by Hiner & Miller. |

Notes: Scribner's Monza was awarded the best appearing car at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. Harry qualified #15 with an 8.61/155.44. He then beat Don Nicholson's out-of-shape Mustang in the first round and then beat Larry Johnson before losing to Bob Glidden in the semifinal. At the Bakersfield March Meet, a six-car Pro Stock show was run. Scribner qualified #3 with an 8.65/155.70. He beat Fred Hunter's Camaro in the first round with a 9.07/144, but he shut off in the semifinal to a 13.53 loss to Mark Yuill's 8.63/157. On May 9, Harry was at OCIR for the NHRA Western Regional. He qualified the little Monza #4 in the eight-car show with an 8.70/154.63. He soloed with an 8.76/154.10 in the first round when Dale Falk shut off on the line. In the semifinals, he set Low ET with an 8.59/157.89 over Gordie Rivera's 8.71/157. Unfortunately, he slowed to an 8.91/133.92, losing to Mark Yuill's 8.60/159 in the final. |

Notes: I believe this is the Monza the Bill Jenkins borrowed for Larry Lombardo to drive after wrecking their Monza earlier. SRD built both cars. The photo has an SRD decal above the tail light as well. |
