Notes: Former Bruce Larson Don Hardy car. Photo from the 1975 NHRA US Nationals, Indianapolis Raceway Park, where Charlie ran 9.132/148.51 to qualify #24. He broke in round one, against Richie Zul. Also 9.27/142.18 at IHRA Bristol 6/75. Charlie qualified #11 at NHRA Columbus at 9.126/148.27 and gave Bill Jenkins a good scare in round one, losing to the Grump's 9.04 with a nice 9.102/147.05. Those were Charlie's only two NHRA national events. | Reed was at Bowling Green for the final NHRA Division Three race on Sept.7. He qualified #3 in the eight-car field with an 8.95. Unfortunately, he lost in the first round, of eliminations. |

Notes: Jim bought this Pinto Pro Stock from Mark Seaman and Pete Rich in September of 1975. It was red, white, and blue and originally called "The Stone Pony'" He repainted it Animal Orange and put "Animal Jim" in big letters on the side for the first time instead of having a car name. Seaman and Rich gave Jim a great jump start and taught him a lot about running the car and Pro Stock racing. The Pinto was a good trainer. Mark Seaman and Pete Rich had built the Pinto cloning Gapp & Roush's Pro Stock Pinto at the time. It had a Gapp & Roush 366 Cleveland engine, 4-speed Lenco, and a Dana rear-end with 6:1 gears and it ran 9s at 150+ mph. Animal Jim ran this car in AHRA, UDRA, NHRA, IHRA and Garlits' PRO races plus many match races from September '75 to the end of '79. Photo from 1978 AHRA Winternationals. The 9.05/151 is from an old time slip from a PRO event held at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin in 1977. Animal Jim qualified 7th in the 16-car Pro Stock field which also included "Dyno Don" Nicholson and "Grumpy" Jenkins. |

Notes: Gary was in Seattle in May for the NHRA Division Six Opener. He qualified #4 with a 9.26/148.43, but in the first round, of eliminations, he shut down to 11.24 in a loss to Pete Kost's 9.23. The only NHRA national event was the Seattle Fallnationals this year. He qualified #12 at 9.312/144.23. Won round one when Warren Johnson did not show (9.52/142) but lost round two to Bob Glidden, 8.95 to a 10-second shut-off for Coe. Formerly listed 8.87/154.37 for this year, but I believe that was a misrepresentation of the 8.86/153 from Seattle 1976 in the Pinker & Aldridge car. |

Notes: Qualified on the bump at Bandimere 1979 at 9.53/142.63. Lost round one to Kevin Rotty, 9.34 to 9.58/140.18. Jean went to Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals, where his 8.82/153.32 qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field. He improved to 8.780/152.54 in the opening round of competition, but it wasn't enough to beat Joe Satmary's 8.65/155. |

Notes: Manchester was at Maple Grove in May for the Dutch Classic. He qualified #7 for the eight-car field, and in the first round, his 9.59/141.06 upset a sleepy Tom Smallwood at 9.37/146. In the semifinal, he had problems and shut down to a losing 13-second run against Carmen Rotonda's 9.34/145. But the other half of the semifinal saw Bill Lawton foul, and Ronnie Lyles broke a rod, so Manchester got back into the show for a final-round showdown with Rotonda. While the two Vega's in the final looked alike, they didn't run alike as Carmen was running steady 9.3's and a final 9.33 against Manchester was all it to took for the win. Ron's first NHRA national event was the Summernationals, where he was the first alternate at 9.517/144.00. He got into the show but dropped a first-round decision to Bill Jenkins, 9.02/151 to 9.67/144.00. He was the third alternate at Sanair at 9.67 and was the 15th alternate at 9.62/142.63 at NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/01/73. Ron also ran 9.56 at York. He raced at the final Connecticut Dragway pro stock show but ran off the pace with best times of 10.11/131.38. |
