Notes: Photo from the 1975 NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Florida. Won IHRA Summer Nationals at Great Lakes with a 9.01/149.00 holeshot win over Scott Shafiroff's 8.98/150.50. We need to confirm whether that was the 70 Mustang or the Mustang II. Don won the 1987 IHRA championship. |

Notes: Andy lent this car to Wally Booth to compete at the Winters, but he got it back after Wally's AMC deal came through. Andy raced it into early 1977 before forming the M&M Boys with Dick Maskin. In November, Mannarino qualified #4 at Suffolk for the Little Guy National Open with an 8.83/153.06. In the opening round, an 8.90/151.51 beat John Theofiles' 9.02/150. In the semi-final, his 8.89/151.77 lost to Pat Musi's 8.79/153. He did not drive at any NHRA national events this year. Andy sold this car to Fred (Shafer?) BORT = AKA Balls Out Racing Team! Notes: Don started the 1974 season with two Pintos and a new Mustang II that was still getting completed. Early season plans called for Ken Dondero to drive one of the Pintos, but Bill Jenkins hired Dondero very early in the season. Nicholson put one of his 366 cubic inch engines on the dyno, making 705 hp. At Pomona, for the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified #8 with a 9.08/150.25. He beat alternate Bobby Rowe in the "Jeg's" Pinto in round one, with a 9.26/145.16. In round two, his 9.24/146.10 lost to Scott Shafiroff's 9.13/149. Don drove a Mustang for the rest of the season. |

Notes: Gapp and Roush were cornerstones of Ford Pro Stock racing. From their Boss 429-powered Mavericks through their 351-powered Pintos, Mustang IIs, and this Maverick. But '76 was the beginning of the end for the team. NHRA rules all but factored the Fords out of existence, and the team was forced to go elsewhere to be competitive. They found the IHRA rules more to their liking and raced more under that organization. Wayne started the year in the four-door Maverick. Wayne qualified #6 at Beeline Dragway for the Phoenix Winter Classic with an 8.96. In the opening round, he improved to 8.92/152.54 to defeat Brad Yuill's 9.25/146. In round two, he beat Bob Glidden, but he lost to eventual winner Larry Lombardo in the semi-final. He had a great outing at the Pomona Winters. He qualified #6 at 8.831/153.58. He took out Gordie Rivera in round one, 8.86/153.84 to 9.05/152. In round two, he eked out a win over Warren Johnson, 8.92/152.80 to 8.95/154. He easily defeated an off-pace Dyno Don Nicholson in the semis, 8.87/153.32 to 9.30/135. But he faced Glidden in their ninth NHRA final round match-up (and their last). Bob won a definitive victory in the final round, 8.821/155.70 to Wayne's 8.916/153.32. Wayne debuted a 1976 Pinto at Gainesville (see the other entry). |

Notes: Don was in Denver, Colorado, on July 1st for the Olympia National Open. He reached the final of the eight-car show only to have his late leaving 10.17/134.32 lose to Lynn Harrison's 10.33/131. Shortly after that, he was at Cayuga, Ontario, for the USRT event. Unfortunately, he lost to Don Carlton in the opening round. We need to confirm this was indeed the Cuda and not the Duster. Don drove the Duster at NHRA Pomona and Gainesville. |

Notes: Lost the quickest side by side race in history to Bob Glidden at the NHRA Summernationals, 8.58 to 8.80. (Then, in a later round, Glidden and Richie Zul set yet another combined quickest mark, 8.53 to 8.66). | Dempsey won the NHRA Division 2 opener at DeSoto Memorial Speedway on April 16. He had set Low ET and Top Speed at 8.77/155.70 before beating Roy Hill's 8.85/153 in the final with an 8.80/154.63. A couple of weeks later, he was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. A tough eight-car field saw such notables like Larry Lombardo and Kevin Rotty fail to qualify. Dempsey's 8.73/155.70 qualified #7. But his opening round 8.83/154.90 lost to Wally Booth's 8.78/155. At Columbus, for the NHRA Springnationals, his 8.78/154.10 qualified #11. He surprised Lee Shepherd in the first round, where his 8.86/153.06 beat Lee's quicker, but later 8.83/152. But in round two, he had the same thing happen: his quicker 8.87/153.06 lost to Don Nicholson's 8.89/153. Hardy qualified #9 at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals with an 8.74. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Bob Glidden. Dempsey knew he had to take a chance on the tree. He gambled and lost, fouling away an 8.78/154.63, while Glidden advanced with an 8.64. Best NHRA national event times were 8.690 at the Grandnationals and 155.70 at the Cajun Nationals. |

Notes: Randy qualified #5 at the NHRA Winternationals with an 8.55/157.34. He lasted until the second round when he fouled against Kevin Rotty. A big win came at the Bakersfield March Meet, where he set Low ET at 8.54 at 154.63 in the final while beating Roy Hill's 8.72/156. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he qualified #4 and beat Alban Gauthier in the first round, before losing to Joe Satmary in round two. He was at Fremont for the NHRA Division 6 Opener in April, where although he failed to reach the finals, he did qualify #2 with an 8.50/157. At the second Division 6 race at Seattle, he beat Tom Chase in the first round, with an 8.67/154.10. An 8.72/154.37 beat Gary Hansen in the semifinals and moved him into the final against Larry Johnson. The two had a good race, but Humphrey's 8.71/153.58 finished runner-up to Johnson's 8.69/154. The next Division 6 race was at OCIR on May 17. Randy's 8.66/155.44 qualified #6. In the first round, he had problems and shut down to 9.96 in a loss to Brad Yuill's 8.61/157. |

Notes: Bob ran a 9.12 to qualify #8 at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals. Unfortunately, the Dart broke on the line in the first round, giving Dale Falk a solo. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, a 9.23/149.25 qualified #14. He picked up to a 9.170/150.00 in the first round, but still lost to Bill Bagshaw's 9.12/149. That was the team's only NHRA national event appearance. This was a well-funded team with all new equipment. Ran 9.27 at Riverside, MS. |

Notes: Third alternate at 1979 Winters at 8.82. After failing to qualify at Pomona, Booth really stepped it up at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. His 8.66/156.79 qualified #7. An opening round 8.71/155.44 beat Tom Owens, but a slowing 9.22/113.78 lost to Mark Yuill's 8.74/153 in round two. At the rain postponed NHRA Cajun Nationals, he lasted until the semifinals, where his 8.81 lost to Lee Shepherd's 8.72. The next stop on the NHRA tour was at Columbus for the Springnationals. Booth's 8.77 qualified #10, and in round one, his 8.86/153.32 lost to Larry Lombardo's 8.76/155 in Bill Jenkins' Camaro. He did not compete at the Mile High Nationals, but he was at Englishtown for the Summernationals, where he qualified #4 with an 8.69. He improved to 8.65 in the first round, and he beat Joe Satmary, and an 8.72 in round two, beat fellow AMC campaigner Andy Mannarino's 8.75. In the semifinals, he lost to eventual winner Frank Iaconio. He ran really well at the PHR Championships held at Martin, Mich. There, he qualified #2 with an 8.71/152.28, and he ran steady 8.7's with an 8.70 best coming in the semifinal with a win over Mark Yuill's 8.74. He went up against Lombardo in the final, and Larry's 8.65/154 got the win over Wally's 8.71/154.63. Wally skipped the NHRA Grandnationals in Canada, but was at Indy for the US Nationals. He qualified #10 with an 8.72/153.58, but he lost to Iaconio in the opening round. He also did not attend the NHRA Fallnationals in Seattle. At the NHRA World Finals at Ontario Motor Speedway, he qualified #7 with an 8.76/153.84. A first-round 8.83/153.06 beat Gary Pugh, but he fouled (8.97/154.10) against Shepherd in round two. He finished fourteenth in NHRA points for '79. This was the last year that he campaigned as he retired from driving after the World Finals. |

Notes: The team debuted on the NHRA national event tour at Columbus at 8.75/155.70 to qualify #6. Andy fouled against Warren Johnson in round one, losing an 8.88/150 to 8.914/152.80 contest. He qualified #7 at Englishtown at 8.70/155.70. An 8.83/154.37 beat Ronnie Manchester's 8.90/152 in round one. Fellow AMC racer Wally Booth won their close round two contest, 8.72/155 to 8.75/155.17. He was credited with an 8.65 at the PHR Nats in Martin. We need confirmation of that ET and speed. Andy qualified #13 at Indy at 8.747/153.84. A first-round 8.888/152.54 beat Don Nicholson's fouling shut-off pass, but he ran into Bob Glidden in round two and lost an 8.56/157 to 8.779/154.10 contest. |

Notes: AKA The Quiet One. Brannan's 10.26/134.93 failed to qualify for the NHRA Summernationals, being only good enough for the fourth alternate. This was his first time back in a race car in four years. A 10.18/135.74 qualified him twenty-first at the US Nationals. On October 3 at Blaney for the Dixie Finals, a final Round 10.26/134.72 beat Bill Tanner for the win. On October 18 in Atlanta, Calvin Nabors beat Brannan in the first round. At the NHRA Supernationals, a first Round 10.16 beat Dick Loehr (10.22). But he fouled against Dick Oldfield in round two. |

Notes: This was a small block wedge head engine. | Brad was driving for Dick Landy at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he ran 8.61/158.17 to qualify #7. He lost to Tom Chelbana in the first round, via a monumental holeshot, 8.75 to 8.62. At the Bakersfield March Meet, he qualified with an 8.58, but he fouled against Sonny Bryant in the first round. He was at Fremont for the NHRA Division 6 race in April. He qualified #1 with an 8.50/159.87 (Low ET and Top Speed) and made his way to the final, where he beat his brother Mark for the title. Brad qualified #1 at the second NHRA Division 6 race at Seattle with an 8.52/159.57 (Low ET and Top Speed), but he fouled against Gary Pugh in the first round. At the third NHRA Division 6 race at OCIR, Brad qualified #2 with an 8.57/157.34 behind Kevin Rotty's 8.50. He advanced to the final with runs of 8.61/157.34 and 8.54/158.17 to meet up with Rotty in the final. Brad was a little slower than Rotty in eliminations, and he attempted to compensate, but he pushed the 'tree a little too hard and fouled away an 8.70/154.90 while Kevin got the victory with an 8.48/158. Brad was in the family Camaro at Indy and Ontario. Formerly listed 8.425/161.57. Removing those times until we get confirmation. |

Notes: Photo from the 1976 NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Florida. On May 9, Hobson was at Englishtown for the NHRA Division One opener. He qualified #3 with an 8.90, and in the first round, his 8.87/153.06 beat Don Campanello's 9.10/149. Unfortunately, in the semifinal, he fouled against the eventual winner Larry Lombardo. Carl won an NHRA Pro Stock Circuit race at Great Meadows, N.J., on May 29. It was an eight-car show, and in the first round, he beat Bob Ingles with a 9.02/153.32. In the semifinals, his 8.98/152.80 beat Tom Gray. The final was against the similar big-block Camaro of Richie Zul. Hobson got a slight holeshot, and his 8.98/153.84 got the victory over Zul's 8.97 at just 144. |
