Notes: Photo from the 1976 NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Florida. | Rivera started his season at Tucson in January for the AHRA Winternationals, where he qualified #7 in the sixteen-car field. He ran well, lasting until the semifinals before losing to Lee Edwards' 8.94/150 with an ailing 9.69/128.02. At the Phoenix Winter Classic, he qualified #8 with a 9.09, but it lost to Larry Sengstack in round one, when he fouled(9.26/150). His next stop was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. A 9.02 qualified #14, but his 9.05/152.28 lost to Wayne Gapp's 8.86/153 in the opening round. Gordie qualified #16 at 8.9966/152.80 at the Ontario World Finals. He lost in round one, to Paul Blevins, 8.90 to 9.028/152.80. |

Notes: On July 30, Montgomery was at Englishtown for an eight-car show. He qualified second behind Ray Allen's Vega. He then ran times of 9.90/140.40 and 9.97/139.96 before meeting with Allen in the final. The little Vega was too tough as its 9.72/139 defeated Ken's 9.91/140.84. Ken was at Maple Grove in August 1972 for its Pro Stock Championships. In the first round of eliminations, his 9.77/140.18 beat Dave Gould's 10.07/136. His 9.78/139.96 defeated Ronnie Lyles' 9.78/140 in a close race in the semifinal. He faced the Vega of Rich Mirarcki in the final, and his consistent 9.78/140.62 finished runner-up to Rich's 9.69/140. AKA 555. Ken also ran 9.91 at Numidia and 9.88 at Aquasco. |

Notes: Don is in the near lane. Also 8.73/155.70 at the '79 Winters. | Campanello qualified #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with an 8.73/155.77. He fouled in the first round, of eliminations and slowed to 9.06 while his opponent, Lee Shepherd, advanced with an 8.65. At Gainesville, for the NHRA Gatornationals, his 8.74/156.25 qualified #12. In the opening round, his 8.75/156.52 advanced when Shepherd failed to show. He improved to 8.680/156.79 in the second round to take out Jim Kinnett's 8.87/152 but a semifinal 8.74/156.25 lost to Ronnie Sox's 8.65/155. He was at Columbus in June for the NHRA Springnationals. There, an 8.80 got him the #13 spot in the show. He had a close first-round race against Shepherd that saw his 8.87/153.58 finish second best to Lee's 8.85/152. Don was the first alternate at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals with an 8.83/154.90 best. The Gators times were Don's best for 1979. |

Notes: Bob was the 8th alternate at Gainesville (times not reported). He was at Englishtown for an eight-car show in June. Unfortunately, his 9.41/125 in the first round lost to Wayne Gapp's 8.83/155. Ingles was at Maryland International in Mid-August for the fourth NHRA Division One race. He got to solo with a 9.51 in the first round when Bill Clayton failed to show. In the semifinal, his 9.14/147.51 fell to Wally Booth's 9.10/140. Bob qualified #27 at Indy with a 9.176/147.78. He lost the first round to Reid Whisnant, 9.023/150.75 to a shut-off 11-second run. Bob won the NHRA Division 1 Pro Stock title in 1975. Photo from Indy 1975. |

Notes: Mark ran 9.12 at Bakersfield. He qualified #1 at Sears Point at the end of May for the Western Pro Stock Championships with a 9.24. Unfortunately, he was rudely upset in the first round, where he lost to Randy Humphrey. On July 17, he competed in the Sacramento Fox Hunt race. It was an eight-car field, and in the first round, his 8.93/153 beat Jean Batteaux. In the semi-final, he improved to 8.90/153 to defeat Humphrey's 9.12/150. He faced Dick Landy in the final, and despite improving even more to an 8.87/152, he lost to Landy's 8.84/153. Ran the team’s usual three national events: Pomona, Seattle, and Ontario. Mark was a third alternate DNQ at Pomona (no time available). He qualified #10 at Seattle at 8.936/154.10 but lost to Dave Kanners in round one, 8.74 to 9.05. Mark finished the season as he started, third alternate DNQ at Ontario with a 9.116/153.06. Mark won the 1976 Pro Stock Open at Boise. |

Notes: Photo from the 1975 NHRA Springnationals, National Trail Raceway, Columbus, Ohio. Times and info from National Dragster, 8/25/75. | Reid's Duster was still pretty stout in '75. At the IHRA Winternationals, things didn't go so well as he was the second alternate for the eight-car field. He was aided by a new NHRA weight break of 7.10 lbs. per cubic inch that went into effect at the Gatornationals in March. There, he qualified #14 with a 9.05 and was one of five Mopars that made the show. Only two survived round one and Reid was one of them when his quick-leaving 9.07 beat Bert Straus's 9.01. In round two, he came up against Wayne Gapp. Wayne had been deep into the eights (8.76 in qualifying, 8.88 round one), so Reid took a gamble on the tree and fouled. At the first NHRA Division 2 race at Warner Robins, Whisnant reached the final. He set Low ET in the first round, with an 8.93 and in the semifinals, his 8.97/151.77 beat Joe Varde. He faced low qualifier Wally Booth in the final. It was a good race, but the AMC's 9.05/149 got the victory over Reid's runner-up 9.06/152.28. He was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships, but a 9.12/151 in the first round, lost to Bob Glidden's 8.93/149. Whisnant went to Suffolk for the next NHRA Division 2 race, but he failed to reach the finals. He was the first alternate at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. At Englishtown, he had the quickest Mopar in the field for the NHRA Summernationals when he ran 9.04/150.75 for the #8 spot. Unfortunately, a 9.08/151.26 fell to Charlie Castaldo's 9.09/150 in the first round. He qualified #11 for the 32-car field at Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals with a 9.04. He improved to 9.02/150.75 in the first round, to beat Bob Ingles, but he lost to eventual winner Gapp in round two. Reid was back at Rockingham the following week (September 7) for the IHRA US Open race. An 8.96 qualified #4 and in the first round, his 9.00/153.06 beat Kenny Hahn's 9.12/150. He faced another Mopar in round two and again he won; this time his 9.02/151.51 beat Bobby Yowell's 9.12/150. He faced Lee Edwards' Camaro in the semifinals and despite running a good 9.01/151.25, he lost to Edwards' better 8.94/152. Whisnant made it to the semifinals at the final NHRA Division 2 race at Desoto when his car failed to fire. Reid did not make the long trip to Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals, but he was at Ontario for the NHRA World Finals. A 9.05 qualified him #14 in the field, but he lost to Lee Hunter in the first round. While the regular NHRA season ended, it didn't keep Reid from racing. In November, he won the Southeast National Open at Warner Robins. He qualified #1 with an 8.96/151.77 and beat George Pitts in the final. Another win came at the Snowbird National Open at Desoto. There, he set Low ET and Top Speed at 8.99/152.54 before stopping Hahn's 9.15/148 in the final with a 9.00/149.25. Best NHRA national event times were 9.020 at Indy and 152.80 at the World Finals. |
