Notes: On June 17, Irv was at Lubbock, Texas, for the third NHRA Division Four race. He downed Kelly Chadwick in the opening round with a 9.94/137.41. In the semifinals, he beat another Vega, this one belonging to Lynn Harrison. Irv's 10.02/136.78 defeated Lynn's 10.15/134. Beringhaus really picked it up in the final, running a 9.64/141.74 (Low ET and Top Speed) for the victory over Bob Coleman. Another win came on July 8 at the third NHRA Division Five race held at Cornhusker Raceway Park. He had set Low ET and Top Speed at 9.64/142.40 in qualifying #1 for the eight-car field. A 9.77/137.82 in the opening round beat David Piekarski, and a semifinal 9.72/140.18 beat Harrison. He went up against John Hagen in the final, and Irv's 9.67/141.50 won over Hagen's 9.85/136. Not long after that, he went to Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. It was a 32 car field, and he ran 9.42 for the #26 spot in the show. Unfortunately, he lost to Wally Booth in the first round. The next stop for Irv was in Minnesota for the NHRA Division Five race. He qualified #5 in the eight-car show, which set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Wayne Gapp. Beringhaus had some luck on his side as Gapp fouled, and he ran 9.44/139.10 to advance. In the semifinal, his 9.52/144.92 fell to eventual winner Larry Huff's 9.46/144. Irv was in Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals on August 3. He qualified #14 in the sixteen-car field, but a first-round 9.48/145.86 lost to Reid Whisnant's 9.28/146. On August 19, he competed at the fourth NHRA Division Seven race at Bonneville. Irv qualified #1 and then ran 9.84 in the first round, to defeat Ken Hedman's SOHC Maverick. But in the semifinal, Sonny Bryant set Low ET with a 9.74 to drop Beringhaus' 9.76. Beringhaus was in Seattle on August 25 for the final NHRA Division 6 race. He ran 9.41/147.54 in the first round, to beat Jack Manchester, and a semifinal 9.32/147.05 stopped Monty Mantovan. In the final, he beat Don Ringer's Vega for the victory with a 9.53/146.81. At Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, Irv ran 9.30/146.10 to qualify #20 in the 32 car show. His 9.48 in the first round, fell to Paul Blevins' 9.19. A week later (September 9), he was at Minneapolis for the NHRA Division Five final. Bob Riffle dominated this race with 9.2's; no one was even close to his performance. Irv won his opening race over Dwayne Haberman with a 9.64/146.57, but his semifinal 9.94/141.95 lost badly to Riffle's 9.24/146. He then went to Sears Point for the NHRA Division Seven final. A 9.40/145.16 in the opening round beat Jim Baker. In the semifinal, his 9.50/144.92 fell to Bill Bagshaw's 9.29/147. Irv also ran 9.30 at Dallas International. The car was built for Irv by "Dandy" Dick Landy. It was sold to Mike Fons in January 1974 by Irv's widow Nancy. Fons ran the car as the "Motown Missile" from 1974/75. Won Amarillo WCS meet in 6/73 with high nines. Early low qualifier at high altitude Albuquerque NHRA WCS meet at 10.26 on 8/11/73.

Notes: Strickler was at Lakeland on March 3 for the IHRA Winternationals. He qualified #11 and lost in the opening round, where his 9.67/140 lost to Ronnie Sox's 9.31/145. In April, he was at Suffolk for an eight-car show. A 9.47 qualified #3, and in round one, his 9.43 beat Carlos Sandoval who had missed a shift. Frank Iaconio smoked the tires in the semifinal against him, and Stricker ran 9.87 to advance. He was to face Rich Mirarcki in the final. The final was never run as it was rained out. Shortly after that (April 15), he was at Cecil County for its National Open. It was another eight-car field, and he qualified #3 with a 9.33. He soloed with a 9.47/142.88 in the opening round when Dutch Irrgang's Vega broke. In the semifinal, his 9.37 lost to Paul Blevins' 9.19. On May 6, he was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He had the quickest Chevy qualifier with his career-best (to this point) 9.37 getting the #13 spot in the show. In the first round, his late 9.37/145.39 lost to Stuart McDade's 9.41/145. Dave was at Muncie on May 20 for the IHRA Northern Nationals. He qualified #5 with a 9.56 and lasted until the semifinals before his 9.35/145.39 lost to eventual winner Don Carlton's 9.04/152. He was at Maple Grove in June for the USRT event. In the first round, his 9.39/144 beat Wally Booth's 9.51/142. A even better 9.30/144.69 lost to a quick-leaving Ken Dondero at 9.31/144, who was driving one of "Dyno Don" Nicholson's Pintos. He was the strongest Chevy qualifier at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals. His 9.43 got him the #6 spot in the sixteen-car field. Strickler lasted until round two before eventual winner Carlton beat him. The next USRT event was in Minnesota in July. Dave beat Mirarcki in the first round, and in round two, his 9.30 beat Wally Booth's 9.52. In the semifinal, a 9.30 defeated Wayne Gapp's 9.54. He went up against "Dyno Don" Nicholson in the final. The two had a great race saw saw "Dyno's" 9.26/145.16 beat Strickler's 9.27/145.16. The next USRT event was held at Cayuga, Ontario. Ford's had won the first two USRT races, but this one belonged to Strickler. Dave's 9.31/145.16 beat Booth in the opening round. In round two, his 9.36 took out Ed Schartman. He got a big win over Ronnie Sox in the semifinal, where his 9.22/147.50 beat Sox's quicker 9.17/148. He faced the always tough Herb McCandless's formidable Dodge in the final. Dave cut another excellent light with his 9.22/145.39 winning over Herb's 9.19/149. Surprisingly, he did not race at the NHRA Summernationals, but he did race at the Super Stock Nationals near the end of the month (July 28). He qualified #8 for the sixteen-car field with a 9.35/144.54. Dave improved to 9.31/144 in the first round, to beat Carl Ruth's 9.69/141. In round two, Melvin Yow fouled away a 9.22/148 against him, advancing Stricker's 9.36/143 into the semifinal. There, Dave fouled away a 9.38/143.54 against the eventual winner Paul Blevins. The following day, he was in Connecticut for an eight-car show. The race was run with all the cars making two runs, and the two drivers with the most wins would meet in the final. Dave's 9.33/145.39 beat Ray Allen's quicker 9.30/146 in his first race. In his second race, he beat Gapp's 9.42/146 with a 9.38/143.54. This put him into the final against "Dyno Don." Nicholson was running 9.1's with ease, and in the final, he set Low ET with a 9.09/147 that topped Strickler's 9.34/143.54. As the season progressed, Dave's little Vega became more and more of a threat as it was running strong. On August 8, he was at Englishtown for the USRT event. It was a sixteen-car field with all the "big Name" drivers. In the opening round of eliminations, Dave's 9.26/145.63 beat Dave Kanners' 9.44/143. In round two, he ran 9.20/145.39 to beat Mike Fons' 9.27/148. He ran McCandless in the semifinals, and his 9.27/144.92 lost to the Dodge's 9.12/148. He then won over an eight-car field at Maple Grove. A 9.48/144 in the opening round had beaten Clyde Cheek's 9.55/142. In the semifinal, he quickened his pace to 9.29/144.92 in defeating John Healy's 9.50/142. He faced Ruth in the final, who was also driving an SRD-built Vega in the final. The cars may have looked alike, but they didn't run the same as Dave set Low ET with a 9.22/144.92 while winning over Carl's 9.69/141. Dave ran 145.16 at PRA Tulsa OK 9/73.

Notes: Kevin started the season at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals. It was an eight-car show and Rotty's 9.04/149.75 qualified on the "bump." He made it into the final against Don Nicholson, but in their race, the Camaro blew its engine giving Nicholson an easy win.

Notes: Arnew was at Dover Dragstrip in April for an NHRA Pro Stock circuit race. In the first round, his 10.33/132.00 beat Ken Montgomery's 10.67/133. Unfortunately, he ran against Bob Banning Jr. in the semifinals and missed a shift, advancing Banning into the final. Jack was at Capitol Raceway on June 27 for another NHRA Pro Stock circuit race. It was an eight-car show, and his 10.28/135.73 beat Clarence McNeal in the opening round. In the semifinals, he took on the always-tough Ed Miller. Arnew won with a 10.19/135.36 over Ed's slightly better 10.18/135. This moved Jack into the final against Bill Blanding in the "Mimi" Camaro. The two had a good race, but Jack was sharp on the tree, and his 10.23/136.80 got the victory over Bill's 10.16/136. In early August, he reset the A/MP record to 10.33 at the NHRA Division 1 race at Maple Grove with this car. He also won the NHRA Pro Stock Circuit Race held at Maple Grove on September 5. In the final, he got off the line really well, and his 10.34/131.96 held on to win over Rick Holladay's much better 10.19/134. Also ran 10.19 at Jackson, SC, and 10.24 at Maple Grove.

Notes: Ran 8.879/154.37 debut at 78 Pomona Winters. | John qualified on the "bump" at Ontario for the NHRA World Finals with an 8.85/154.90. He had one of the two Mopars that qualified for the field, and in the first round, the two were matched. Hagen got an easy solo and ran 9.02/151.77 to advance when Randy Humphrey broke on his burnout. But in round two, Hagen’s off-pace 9.03/151.77 lost to Frank Iaconio's 8.68/155.

Notes: Ran Grumpy's ‘70 Camaro while Bill still ran the ‘69 machine. Photo from Maple Grove. Car was not as successful as the ‘69 Camaro. | Dick debuted this car on July 19 at the NHRA Summernationals. He qualified #14 with a 10.18/135.33 (one spot behind Bill Jenkins' 10.16). In the first round, Ed Miller fouled against him and his 10.13/136.77 advanced. But in round two, his transmission broke and Dick Humbert soloed in Billy Stepp's Challenger.

Al beat Lee Edwards in a best of three match race at Atco. Shortly after that, he was at Cecil County, where he ran 9.70 twice and a 9.69. In August, he was at Maple Grove for its Pro Stock Championships. It was an eight-car show, and he qualified #5. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Rich Mirarcki. Joniec tried hard, but his 9.87/139.10 lost to Mirarcki's 9.68/139. According to Joniec, he got a best 0f 9.38/146 with it by the end of '72. He got that time running the Boss 429 as he had run out of parts for the "cammer."

Notes: Varde was at Maryland International for the Pro Stock Open race in July. It was a sixteen-car field, and his 9.22 qualified on the "bump." In the opening round of eliminations, his 9.25/145.00 lost to Herb McCandless' 9.12/150. Joe ran 9.245/147.05 to qualify #17 at Indy 1974. He lost to Wayne Gapp in round one with a shut-off run of 11.973/76.33. On Sept. 22, he was at Rockingham for the IHRA US Open. His 9.19 qualified #6. He improved to 9.11 in the opening round of competition to beat Sam Carroll, but in round two, Joe's 9.12 lost to eventual winner Wayne Gapp's 8.85. He qualified #9 at the World Finals at Ontario at 9.094/150.50. He ran 9.293/146.34 in a Round 1 loss to Bob Glidden.

Notes: Musi ran 8.52/159.29 to qualify #6 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He improved to 8.50/159.01 in the first round, to beat Gene Fasching's 8.75/154. In round two, he improved to 8.47/160.71 to beat a fouling Lee Shepherd at 8.42/161. In the semifinal, a consistent 8.50/158.17 took out Bob Ingles' 8.61/158. He faced off against Bob Glidden in the final, and despite running 8.52/159.57, he lost to the Ford's strong 8.38/161. It was still a great showing for the mostly match racer at an NHRA national event. After that showing, he went to Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where once again he impressed. An 8.44/160.71 qualified #4. Once again, he made his way to the final. In round one, Paul Gentilozzi fouled against him, and Musi advanced with an 8.50/159.57. A second-round 8.45/160.42 covered John Hagen's 8.55/160. He beat Shepherd fair and square in the semifinals, with his 8.44/161.00 beating the Texas Camaro's 8.48/157. This time he faced off against Frank Iaconio in the final. Frank had been running just a little quicker in eliminations, and Pat gambled on the tree and lost. His fouling 8.50/159.85 finished runner-up to Iaconio's 8.39/161. He returned to his match racing roots until the end of April when he went to Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. It was only an eight-car field, and after runner-up finishes in the first two NHRA events, Musi must have been disappointed when his 8.63 (fourth alternate) failed to qualify. He did much better at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals held at the end of May. It was another eight-car show, but this time his 8.51/160.42 qualified #5. That was good; what was bad was that he had to run low qualifier Shepherd in the opening round. Musi pushed the tree too hard and fouled away an 8.63 while Lee advanced with an 8.44. Pat switched from this car to the Palmer Bros. Camaro starting at Indy.

Notes: Yuill qualified #6 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with an 8.46/158.29. His 8.51/158.73 beat Gene Fasching's 8.70/156 in round one. In round two, his 8.59/158.17 fell to Lee Shepherd's 8.46/159. On May 9, Mark was at OCIR for the NHRA Western Regional race. He qualified #1 for the eight-car field with an 8.64/157.06. In the opening round, he improved to 8.60/157.34 to beat a fouling Butch Leal. Another 8.60/158.45 advanced in the semifinal when Terry Sherrill fouled against him. He faced Harry Scribner in the final, and Harry had just set Low ET in his semifinal win with an 8.59. But Mark ran his third straight 8.60 at 159.01 to get the victory over Harry's slowing 8.91/133. Mark was at Baton Rouge later in May for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. It was an eight-car field, and his 8.59 best failed to qualify. Western Regional Champion 1981. Defeated Bob Glidden in Round 2 of the OCIR World Finals at 8.49/158.17 and made it to the semis. Ran a lot of 8.40s and 8.50s this year. Best times of 8.447 at the Finals and 161.00 at the Winters.
