Notes: Eldon Doman built this car new. Don Hardy did most of the chassis. Cleveland power by Doman. 4-speed Lenco. Family still owns the car. It is as it last ran in 1980, unrestored. Still fires right up and sounds as awesome as ever. It qualified every race it entered. Won the Tucson race in 1977. - Stephen Doman 9.17 Phoenix |

In the second round, his 9.10/151.26 was no match for eventual winner Larry Lombardo's 8.84/153. Ken qualified #9 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals at 8.866/153.84, but he lost to Don Nicholson in the first round, 8.90/155 to a shut off 9.57/119. The "Gapp and Roush" team had one of their better outings of 1977 at the NHRA Gatornationals. Ken qualified #8 at 8.90/152.28, and then best Lee Edwards in round one. He then advanced into the semifinals after Bob Glidden broke in round two. But in the semis, the Pinto could only produce a 9.11 that lost to Wally Booth's 8.98. That was Ken's last NHRA national event of the year. He ran 8.88 at AHRA St. Louis. |

Notes: Racing in Division One in "77-'78 was not exactly the best place to be when learning the ropes in Pro Stock. But that's just where Don Campanello found himself. The competition was really fierce between Larry Lombardo and the "Team Jenkins" car and Frank Iaconio. Those two won the bulk of the races. But maybe having such tuff competition also brings you along quicker as you have to compete or drop out. So Don worked hard to get competitive.'77 was not one of his best years in racing, but it was a learning experience. Don was at Englishtown on May 1 for the NHRA Division One Opener. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field, but then it rained, and the race was postponed until the following week(May 8). He qualified #12 at NHRA Englishtown at 8.890 (no speed). Lost round one to Frank Iaconio, 8.71/155 to 8.93/152.80. Entered but did not race at NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/77. |

Notes: Clarence built the Vega. He used Harwood & Lamb components. That was a fast one until I crashed it at OCIR. We broke a ladder bar in the four link just after 4th gear. That car was really running good & we thought we finally were on our way to the big time. Wasn't meant to be. - Dale Falk, Facebook, 10/22/23 |

Notes: Jim bought this Pinto Pro Stock from Mark Seaman and Pete Rich in September of 1975. It was red, white, and blue and originally called "The Stone Pony'" He repainted it Animal Orange and put "Animal Jim" in big letters on the side for the first time instead of having a car name. Seaman and Rich gave Jim a great jump start and taught him a lot about running the car and Pro Stock racing. The Pinto was a good trainer. Mark Seaman and Pete Rich had built the Pinto cloning Gapp & Roush's Pro Stock Pinto at the time. It had a Gapp & Roush 366 Cleveland engine, 4-speed Lenco, and a Dana rear-end with 6:1 gears and it ran 9s at 150+ mph. Animal Jim ran this car in AHRA, UDRA, NHRA, IHRA and Garlits' PRO races plus many match races from September '75 to the end of '79. Photo from 1978 AHRA Winternationals. The 9.05/151 is from an old time slip from a PRO event held at Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove, Wisconsin in 1977. Animal Jim qualified 7th in the 16-car Pro Stock field which also included "Dyno Don" Nicholson and "Grumpy" Jenkins. |

Notes: Mike ran at NHRA Baton Rouge and Columbus in 1977. At Baton Rouge, he was the fourth alternate, but the race had been re-scheduled on top of Blaney's divisional race, and Nicholson, Mannarino, and several alternates did not return. Mike got in the show and raced Wally Booth in round one. Booth took an 8.79 to 9.09/150.75 victory. Mike qualified #15 at Columbus (times not available). He lost a thrilling round one race with Andy Mannarino, 9.00/153.84 to 9.00/150.75 - reportedly a margin of victory of .001 seconds! Mike was at Riverside (MS) Raceway on July 31 for the fourth NHRA Division Four race. He ran 9.00 to qualify #2 in the eight-car field behind pole-sitter Richie Zul's 8.81. Unfortunately, he lost a clutch in the first round, of competition and slowed to a 9.50 that lost to Phil Nichol's 9.31. Shortly after that, he was at Baton Rouge for the next NHRA Division Four race. In the opening round, his 9.13 beat Mickey Mills' 9.65, but a 9.21 in the semifinal lost to Larry Doggert's 9.16. |
