Notes: Doug Wood had a very successful season driving Gary Pinker's Pinto in '75. The team did not get nearly the exposure that it should have. The team qualified #14 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 9.15/150.50. That alone was pretty impressive considering that he out-qualified such established drivers as Bill Bagshaw, Lee Hunter, Gordie Rivera, Mike Fons, and Kelly Chadwick, among others who failed to qualify. He faced "Dyno Don" Nicholson in the opening round, and "Dyno" had the performance advantage as he qualified with an 8.95. Wood gambled on the 'tree and lost, running a 9.27/148.76 while Nicholson moved into round two with his 9.00/153. Doug was at Seattle for the NHRA Division 6 Opener on May 31. A 9.10/149.75 qualified #3 in the six-car field. In the first round, he faced the similar Pinto of Mike Rendel. They may have looked the same, but they didn't run the same as Wood's 9.08/149.75 easily beat Rendel's 9.49. In the semifinals, he faced Dick Landy, and Doug got out on the Dodge driver and ran a 9.07/150.50, but Landy came by just before the finish to win with a 9.00/153. He was at Mission Raceway the next day, where he again lasted until the semifinals before he fouled against Mardy Maltais. The second NHRA Division 6 race was run at Edmonton near the end of June. Doug had set Low ET and Top Speed at 9.36/145.86 on his way to a final-round meeting with Pete Kost's Pontiac Astre. The two had a good, close race that saw Pete's 9.39/144 edge out Doug's 9.41/145.16 for the win. The third Division 6 race was run on July 20 at Bremerton. Doug’s little Pinto set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying #1 with a 9.05/153.58. The next closest qualifier was in at 9.20! But in the opening round, Doug fouled against #5 qualifier Gary Coe. He made things right at the next Division 6 race held just a week later (July 27) at Mission Raceway. There he dominated the race. His 8.96/153.06 in qualifying was Low ET and Top Speed. He then ran 9.01/152.02 over Maltais' 9.41/143, and in the semifinals, his 9.05/150.00 beat Rendel's 9.27/147. In the final, he faced Coe, and there was no stopping Doug this day as his 9.00/150.50 grabbed the victory over Coe's 9.55/140. It was a great showing for the team. Portland hosted the final Division 6 race on September 13. Doug looked like he was a sure bet to make the final. He set Top Speed of the meet at 152.80 during qualifying and, in round one, got an easy pass when Coe's Pinto broke. But in round two, Doug took a long nap on the starting line and watched as Gene McKinney’s 9.53/144 beat his almost half-second quicker 9.06/152.02. His next stop was at Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals. His 8.99 qualified #7, and he advanced past a fouling Jim Baker in the first round, with a 9.08/151.26. But in round two, he was up against Ken Dondero, who was driving Bill Jenkins Monza at this event. Ken’s 8.91/152 put the Pinto's 9.09/151.51 on the trailer.

Notes: Joe ran at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals in January In the first round, he put a holeshot on second qualifier Wayne Gapp and held on for the win. In the second round, his 9.27 lost to Wally Booth's 9.17. At the NHRA Winternationals at Pomona, he qualified #9 with a 9.03/151.26. He lost early. Joe ran well at the AHRA Grandnationals at Dragway 42, West Salem, Ohio, in May. He qualified #4 in the eight-car show and then beat Floyd Williams' Pinto in the first round, with a 9.04/152.82. In the semifinals, he needed only a 9.15 to advance when Booth fouled. In the final, he ran Ken Dondero in Bill Jenkins' Vega. An 8.94/154 by Dondero gave Satmary's 9.12/153.32 the runner-up spot. Joe barely made the field at the NHRA Springnationals with a 9.15/148.27 for the #15 spot. A first-round 9.19/147.78 lost to Booth's 9.11/149. Joe failed to qualify at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but he made the show at Maryland International for the US Pro Stock Open. Unfortunately, he fouled in the first round. At the PHR Championships, Satmary qualified in the dreaded #9 spot with a 9.02. That made him run low qualifier, Bob Glidden, in the first round. Bob ran 9.02 to beat Joe's 9.24.

Notes: Kevin ran at the AHRA Winternationals, but in the second round, Larry Lombardo ran a 9.05 that beat his 9.20. Larry lost a motor on the run and Kevin was reinstated. He didn't hang around long as in the semifinal Bob Glidden dropped a 9.02/150 on his 9.16/150.00 to finish his day for good. In May he ran at the Fremont Northern Nationals and made it all the way into the final before losing to Dick Landy's 8.90/154. Another runner-up finish came in June at the first NHRA Division 7 race at Sacramento. He ran 9.14/150.76 in the final that lost to Brad Yuill's 9.10/148.

Notes: Photo from the 1975 NHRA Springnationals, National Trail Raceway, Columbus, Ohio. Times and info from National Dragster, 8/25/75. | Reid's Duster was still pretty stout in '75. At the IHRA Winternationals, things didn't go so well as he was the second alternate for the eight-car field. He was aided by a new NHRA weight break of 7.10 lbs. per cubic inch that went into effect at the Gatornationals in March. There, he qualified #14 with a 9.05 and was one of five Mopars that made the show. Only two survived round one and Reid was one of them when his quick-leaving 9.07 beat Bert Straus's 9.01. In round two, he came up against Wayne Gapp. Wayne had been deep into the eights (8.76 in qualifying, 8.88 round one), so Reid took a gamble on the tree and fouled. At the first NHRA Division 2 race at Warner Robins, Whisnant reached the final. He set Low ET in the first round, with an 8.93 and in the semifinals, his 8.97/151.77 beat Joe Varde. He faced low qualifier Wally Booth in the final. It was a good race, but the AMC's 9.05/149 got the victory over Reid's runner-up 9.06/152.28. He was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships, but a 9.12/151 in the first round, lost to Bob Glidden's 8.93/149. Whisnant went to Suffolk for the next NHRA Division 2 race, but he failed to reach the finals. He was the first alternate at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. At Englishtown, he had the quickest Mopar in the field for the NHRA Summernationals when he ran 9.04/150.75 for the #8 spot. Unfortunately, a 9.08/151.26 fell to Charlie Castaldo's 9.09/150 in the first round. He qualified #11 for the 32-car field at Indianapolis for the NHRA US Nationals with a 9.04. He improved to 9.02/150.75 in the first round, to beat Bob Ingles, but he lost to eventual winner Gapp in round two. Reid was back at Rockingham the following week (September 7) for the IHRA US Open race. An 8.96 qualified #4 and in the first round, his 9.00/153.06 beat Kenny Hahn's 9.12/150. He faced another Mopar in round two and again he won; this time his 9.02/151.51 beat Bobby Yowell's 9.12/150. He faced Lee Edwards' Camaro in the semifinals and despite running a good 9.01/151.25, he lost to Edwards' better 8.94/152. Whisnant made it to the semifinals at the final NHRA Division 2 race at Desoto when his car failed to fire. Reid did not make the long trip to Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals, but he was at Ontario for the NHRA World Finals. A 9.05 qualified him #14 in the field, but he lost to Lee Hunter in the first round. While the regular NHRA season ended, it didn't keep Reid from racing. In November, he won the Southeast National Open at Warner Robins. He qualified #1 with an 8.96/151.77 and beat George Pitts in the final. Another win came at the Snowbird National Open at Desoto. There, he set Low ET and Top Speed at 8.99/152.54 before stopping Hahn's 9.15/148 in the final with a 9.00/149.25. Best NHRA national event times were 9.020 at Indy and 152.80 at the World Finals.

Notes: Photo from the 1975 PHR Championships, US 131 Dragway, Martin, Michigan. Partner names in different order on sides of car. First alternate at Indy 1975 at 9.23. This 8.81 seems very quick for Floyd in 1975. We need to confirm. | Floyd was at Dragway 42 in May for the AHRA Grandnationals. He qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field with a 9.11/152.28. In the opening round, his 9.17/152.54 lost to Joe Satmary's 9.04/152. Ran 9.23 147.54 at NHRA Indianapolis IN 8/31/75.

Notes: Mike had to be disappointed at Pomona as he failed to qualify. Only two Mopars qualified for the sixteen-car field. Shortly after this, NHRA gave the Hemis a new 7.10 lb. per cubic inch weight break. It seemed to help as at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, four Mopars qualified and Fons' 8.97/152.54 was the quickest (#9). But he faced Bob Glidden in the opening round and Mike's 9.03 lost to Glidden's 8.96.

Notes: Former Arlen Vanke car. Charlie was at Englishtown in April for a Pro Stock Circuit race. The cars were run at NHRA legal weight and although he failed to reach the finals, he ran 8.99 and 8.96 at 152 mph. A few days later he was at the Cecil National Open where he ran 8.9 in qualifying and in the first round, he beat Richie Zul with a 9.07/151. He went on to reach the finals where his 9.20 lost to Bob Ingles' Vega. Early in May he was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships, but he fouled against Bobby Yowell in the first round. He was also at the CARS Magazine Meet at Atco, but he lost to the race's eventual winner Scott Shafiroff in the first round. At the NHRA Summernationals, he qualified on the "bump" with a 9.14. A first-round 9.09/150.75 beat Reid Whisnant's 9.08/151, but in round two he lost to Shafiroff. Like most of the other competitors from Englishtown, Charlie made his way to Maryland International for the US Pro Stock Open race on July 18. Unfortunately, the Duster broke in the first round. Also 9.09 at 150.75 at Englishtown. Qualified on the bump at Indy 1975 with a 9.22.

Notes: Bryant was at Beeline in January for the AHRA Winternationals, but he lost early in eliminations. He qualified #12 at NHRA Pomona at 9.093/150.75 but lost to Dave Kanners in round one, 8.920/153.32 to 9.099/151.26. Sonny was at OCIR for the AHRA Grand American West on March 16. He qualified #3 in the sixteen-car field with a 9.01 but fell off to 10.44 in the first round, and lost to Lee Hunter's 9.15. At the second NHRA Division Seven race held at Irwindale, he ran 9.03/151.51 to advance in round one. But in the semifinal, he and Kevin Rotty had a close race that saw them both run 9.30. Unfortunately, Rotty got the "win" light. Bryant did set Top Speed on the run at 152.28. Sonny won the PDA Championships at OCIR in late July 1975, running 8.94/151.51 to 9.06/150.75 over Gordie Rivera in the final. He had earlier set Low ET at 8.91. Sonny was the low qualifier at Bonneville WCS in August 1975 at 9.401. At the NHRA World Finals, Sonny qualified #10 at 9.021/151.00. He lost to Bill Jenkins in the first round, 9.380/149.00, to a shut-off 13-second pass.

Notes: Ran match races and AHRA and IHRA events. Don was dissatisfied with the NHRA weight breaks for the Mopar Hemi-powered cars, but when NHRA lowered the weight break to 7.10 lbs per cubic inch at the NHRA Gatornationals, he thought he would show up and give it a try. A 9.06/150.25 qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field and I'm sure he wasn't too happy when a 9.09/149.50 in the first round, lost to Ron Hutter's Vega at 9.06/149. He went to Miami-Hollywood for the IHRA Winternationals where he ended up as first alternate for the eight-car show. Things didn't go much better at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships where he lost to Clyde Hodges' 9.41/147 in the first round, with a 9.43/147.54. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Springnationals.

Notes: Rivera failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He was at OCIR in March for the AHRA Grand American West race. He beat Don Lorentzen in the opening round with a 9.07 and as only fifteen cars showed, he got the "odd-lot" solo in round two and ran 9.11/150.25 to advance. Unfortunately, he lost to eventual winner Ken Dondero in the semifinal. At the NHRA Division 7 race at Fremont, Rivera’s off-pace 9.91/105 in the first round, lost to Kevin Rotty's 9.12/150. Gordie was at OCIR at the end of July for the PDA Championships. It was a sixteen-car field and Rivera ran well. In round one, his 9.17/150.00 beat Al Arriaga and a second round 9.08/151.28 advanced when Don Lorenzen fouled. In the semifinals he scored a 9.06/151.51 win over Mark Yuill's 9.28/148. This moved Rivera into the final against Sonny Bryant. The Camaro driver had the edge as he had run 9.05, 8.92, and 9.00 to reach the final. The performance margin stayed the same in the final where Sonny's 8.95/151 got him the victory over Rivera's 9.06/150.75 runner-up effort. Rivera did set Top Speed there at 152.02. Best NHRA national event times were 9.148 at Pomona Winters and 151.77 at Ontario Finals.

Notes: On May 4, Sam was at National Trail for the NHRA Division 3 race. He ran a first-round 9.11/146.34 to beat Stacy Shields' 9.39/146, but a 9.15 in the semifinal lost to the race's eventual winner Bobby Yowell, at 9.00. In June, he was back at National Trail for the NHRA Springnationals but failed to qualify. Shortly after, Sam was at Edgewater for the third NHRA Division Three race. His 9.03 qualified #2 in the eight-car field behind Bob Glidden's 8.86. An opening round 9.12/147.78 beat Bob Morrison, and he took out Floyd Williams in the semifinal. He faced Glidden in the final, and Bob had been running steady eight-second times. Gianino caught a bit of good luck when Glidden broke in the final, and he snatched the victory with a 9.09/149.50. Sam qualified at Indy with a 9.22. His best NHRA national event times were 9.073 at the Gators (# alternate) and 150.75 in a first-round loss at the Summernationals.
