Notes: Cheek was a Ford racer even when Ford was done in IHRA. Ford drivers had one every IHRA event except one in 1987, and when Billy Meyer purchased the IHRA, he changed the rules for the '88 season. Oldsmobile sponsored Meyer. For the '88 season, he went to the 500 c.i. format but continued to let the IHRA "Mountain Motored" cars run, but they had to carry extra weight. After Rickie Smith, driving a Ford, won three of the association's first four races, Meyer added still more weight and made the big-engined cars uncompetitive. The Ford runners dropped like flies as these big-engined cars were expensive to run. Ford would not win another Pro Stock race for many seasons in IHRA. After Meyer left, IHRA returned to its roots, letting the "Mountain Motored" cars compete again. Cheek was one of the first to make the brand competitive again. In 1990, he ran well and continued that momentum, bringing Fords back into the IHRA fields. In 1997, he won the IHRA Pro Stock Championship. By 2000, almost half the qualified field at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals was made up of Ford Probes or T-Birds. Floyd qualified #15 there with a 6.80/202.27. In the first round, he got out on Dwayne Rice, who was late off the line. It looked like Cheek had the win in hand when the Probe got out of shape, and he had to back out of it. He slowed to 8.30/114.19 in a loss to Rice's 6.71/206. The next race was the IHRA Springnationals held at Rockingham. Cheek qualified #11 with a 6.75/205.57. In the opening round, his 6.70/207.08 fell to Steve Spiess' 6.69/208. He then went to Canada in the first week of June for the IHRA Canadian Nationals. A 6.68/206.94 qualified #10. In round one, he had a good race against Jon Yoak that saw his 6.72/206.23 lose to Yoak's 6.68/207. At Cordova, his 6.74/206.54 qualified #11 for the IHRA Summernationals. In the first round, he fouled away a 6.89/206.92 against Yoak's 6.68/209. 2000 IHRA Northern Nationals, Stanton, MI. Defending event champ (far lane) qualified 5th at 6.76/208.23 and defeated a broken Jason Collins in Round 1 with a 6.81, but got out of shape in round two and lost to Wally Stroupe's winning 6.77. Notes: Musi had his Camaro up for sale in a November ND. The ad stated that the car's best time in match race trim was 8.58/159.80. It went on to state the car's best legal time as well as its best in IHRA Competition. See Pat's NHRA legal draglist entry for this year. |

Notes: Bobby was at Rockingham at the end of April for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He qualified #10 with an 8.55/161, but his first-round 8.63/160 lost to eventual winner Lee Edwards' 8.36/166. He went to Atlanta for the IHRA Dixie Nationals, where he qualified #9. He lost to low qualifier Ronnie Sox in the first round. His next stop was at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals. Bobby's 8.57 qualified #6, and he soloed in the first round, with an 8.53. In the second round, he faced Edwards, and the Vega was just a little too strong, running 8.38 to cover Yowell's 8.62. On July 23, Bobby's 8.54 qualified #7 in the eight-car field at Milan Dragway for the IHRA Northern Nationals. He had the only Mopar that qualified for the show. In the opening round of eliminations, his 8.58/159.85 fell to Warren Johnson's 8.39/163. He had one of the 18 Pro Stock cars at Rockingham on August 20 that attempted to qualify for the eight-car show for the IHRA US Open Championships. Unfortunately, he failed to better the 8.53 "bump." Yowell was running really well at Atlanta on October 15 for the IHRA Winston Nationals. He qualified #2 behind Edwards with an 8.29, and these two would end up meeting in the final. Bobby stopped Pat Musi and Calvin Nabors before meeting with Edwards in the final, where his 8.42 finished runner-up to Lee's 8.29. Bobby also ran 8.30 at Suffolk, VA. Bobby finished #5 in IHRA Pro Stock points. |

Notes: Finished number 4 in IHRA. | Denton went to Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals, but his 8.62/157 best(second alternate) failed to qualify. Harold ran 8.39/162 to qualify #4 at Rockingham in April for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. An opening round 8.91/160 beat Keith Albritten's quicker 8.88/155, and he eased off to a 9.38/129 in round two when Charles Crawford fouled against him. He came up against eventual winner Lee Edwards in the semifinals, and his 8.52/162 lost to Edwards' 8.35/166. He won the IHRA Dixie Nationals held at Atlanta Dragway on May 21. His 8.45 qualified #2 behind Ronnie Sox's 8.33. He faced Billy Ewing in the final, and Denton was the favorite based on semifinal times(8.57 to 8.75). Sure enough, an 8.55/160.14 got him the victory over Ewing's 8.63/157. Things didn't go nearly as smooth at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals. Harold "only" qualified #10 with an 8.63, and he lost to Edwards in the opening round of eliminations. |

Notes: Roy was at Capitol for a six car invitational Pro Stock race. All cars made three runs, and they ran at 6.5 lbs per cubic inch. In Hill's first race, he ran 8.86/154.26 to beat Richie Zul's 9.08/149. In his second race, he beat Ken Dondero in Bill Jenkins' Vega, but the clocks didn't record his ET. The speed on the run was 154.11. On his third run, his 8.87/154.56 lost to Herb McCandless' 8.83/153 in Brooklyn Heavy's car. |

Notes: Frank Iaconio is standing behind the car. Ray drove at match races with a 480 inch motor, that eventually became the team's legal 500 incher in 1982. |

Notes: Steve's Lumina ended up on his roof during qualifying at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. He had run 7.18/155.09 on the pass before getting into trouble and crashing. He was ok. The car was back in competition in Mid-May at Carolina Dragway for the IHRA Dixie Nationals. Although he and the car were there, he never got in a run and thus, failed to qualify. Williford made the field at Bristol, where his 7.10/195.52 qualified #15 for the IHRA Springnationals. He slowed to 7.18/194.63 in the opening round and lost to Craig Hankinson's 7.08/197. He was at the Nebraska Motorplex for the IHRA Mid-America Nationals in mid-August. His 7.02/197.88 qualified #7 and was the quickest of the four Chevy's that qualified. Only one survived the first round, and it wasn't Steve's as he went into tire shake and shut off to 16.66 in a loss to the only Chevy that made it into round two, Jerry Yeoman's. He did not go to Norwalk for the IHRA World Nationals run at the end of the month. |
