Notes: 1973 AHRA Gateway Nationals at St. Louis International Raceway. Exhibition, Qualifying. Craig Breedlove at the wheel of the English Leather rocket dragster utilizing a powerplant combining asymetrical dimethyl hydrazine over a nickel catalyst. The byproduct of the combustion was MACE. The starting line area had to be evacuated before each run. The car ran as best of 5.77 at 277 mph (easy numbers to remember). Bret Kepner. On Bonneville it was said to have run 4.65 377.74 on August 2, 1973 according to Samuel Hawley. |

Notes: Paula had driven Tony Fox's Pollution Packer car at the Winternationals and Bonneville, which gave her the bug to build her own rocket. Don Tuttle built this chassis with a Ky Michaelson engine. On her first full pass in the car at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, the fuel did not shut off. The parachutes failed and the car hit the end of the strip and went airborne. Paula suffered a broken neck and was out of commission for three years. She returned to race around the world with Johnny Parsons in 1976 in two different Pontiac race cars. Paula went on to race a B/Modified Datsun, but never got it sorted out. She then raced a Z/Stock Honda Civic with factory backing that was undoubtedly one of the first front wheel cars to race on a drag strip. - Paula and Dan Murphy, Racin & Rockin Radio Show, March 28, 2011 |

Notes: Jack ran 6.862 at 220.04. He ran 5.98 at 213.27 on November 4, shutting off at 1000 feet (out of fuel) at Beeline, Arizona. Also, a 5.955 and a confirmed 6.229/199.11 from OCIR 1973. | We eventually got the kart into the 5.80s at 230 mph and went 180 at Charlotte (and going around the banked oval at the end). We also got a 189 mph clocking on the eighth. - Jack McClure, Racin & Rockin with Draglist.com, 2/08/16 (one day after his 90th birthday!) |
