Notes: Brown was at Odessa Raceway Park on May 5 for an eight-car show. He qualified #7 with a 7.83/206.88. George Cox fouled against him in the opening round, and he advanced with a 7.34/199. In the semifinal, his 7.23/216.34 fell to eventual winner Bennie Osborn's 7.19/200. He was back at Odessaon June 15 for a Pro-Fuel Circuit race. He qualified #3 in the eight-car field with a 7.50, but in the first round, Kenny Bernstein's 7.61 beat his quicker 7.56. The following week (June 23), he set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 7.18 at Amarillo for another Pro-Fuel Circuit race. He beat Gary Bailey driving the "Carroll Brothers" car, and Gorge Cox in the "Banzai" to reach the final where he was up against Bernstein. Unfortunately, he lost to Kenny. Larry was back at Amarillo in July for the Texas Championships. A 7.52/207.84 qualified #3, and in round one, his 7.60 beat Watus Simpson's 7.72 in Vance Hunt's car. He had a close race with Bernstein in the semifinals that saw his 7.49 advance to the final over Kenny's 7.51. He faced Jimmy Nix in the final, and despite running 7.56, he lost to Nix's 7.43. |

Notes: Chuck was at Irwindale on June 7 for an eight-car show. Twelve cars were there and attempted to qualify for the field. Chuck qualified and in the first round, he advanced when his opponent Harry Hibler fouled in Joe Smyser's car. In the semifinals, a 7.13/218.44 beat Bob Williams ailing car. In the final, he met with low qualifier Carl Olson in the Ewell-Bell car. Olson smoked the tires and shut off while Griffith motored to the victory with a 7.16/220.04. This was one of those "King of the Hill" races where the winner of the competition goes up against the car that won the week before. In this race, Chuck raced Gary Cochran. Cochran smoked the tires and watched as Griffith got way out in front only to have his SOHC motor blow. He got an oil bath and pulled the 'chute; this allowed Cochran to go screaming past with a 7.69/211 for the win. Also ran 7.20 at Irwindale 8/13/69. |

Notes: Wayne AKA "The Peregrine." I believe Don Tuttle was the chassis builder for the Crusader. Dad only used Chrysler engines in all his dragsters. The race was at Lions Drag Strip. Dan Lee is in the background, hand on hip. I believe that's Bill Crossley, dad, in the background, in white hat, and definitely, our Chrysler station wagon, aka the push car. Notes: Hightower drove this car on February 19 for the Bakersfield Meet. His 7.30 qualified #10 in the 32 car field, but he lost to Jerry Ruth in the opening round of eliminations. Bob drove the car at a match race at Lions in early July. Lions held the United States Professional Dragster Championship on July 15 (64-car field). Hightower qualified both the Atlas car and the Trotter & Hightower car. In the first round, he drove the Atlas machine to a 7.19/189.86 mph win over Dusty Rhodes and Duane Trotter's car to a 7.36/211.76 mph win over Kelly Brown. Frank Pedregon was tapped to take over the Atlas car for the second round and lost to Dominic Cardoza, recording a 7.52/208.80 mph loss. Hightower could not return for the fourth round and was replaced by Tom McEwen. His best times for the meet were 7.17 and 214.28 mph. The Trotter & Hightower car's best speed was a 227.26 mph track record at Irwindale in September. - Bill Holt | This car was offered for sale with or without an engine in an October '67 issue of Drag News. The ad stated that the car had run a best of 7.08/227.32. |

Notes: Downey was at Beeline Dragway at the end of January for the AHRA Winternationals. Over 100 cars were attempting to qualify for the 32 car field and his 7.79 qualified #9. He beat Jack Ewell in the opening round, and Ron Rivero fouled against him in round two. In round three, his 7.72/200.44 defeated Hank Westmoreland. Don Cook then fouled against him in the semifinal, and Bob found himself going up against low qualifier Connie Kalitta in the final. The big overhead cam Ford engine ran much quicker than the "Howard Cam" car during eliminations, and it stayed that way in the final where Downey's 8.0/196.50 finished runner-up to Kalitta's 7.63/196. At Pomona, a 7.490/214.78 qualified #29. His 7.608/209.30 in round one lost to Jerry Ruth's 7.36/213. He also was at Riverside for the HRM Championships, where his 7.45/213.28 in the first round lost to Jimmy Nix's 7.27/212. |
