Notes: Boyd was at Lions on May 11 for an eight-car show. He qualified on the bump with a 7.43/180.00. An opening round 7.55/204.08 beat Ray Ayers' late 7.50/218, but Boyd lost in the semifinals. This car was destroyed on May 25 at Lions. Jimmy was attempting to qualify for the eight-car show and after running a 7.31/207.36, he pulled the 'chute and the throttle got stuck wide open. The car went off the track and struck some logs. It got airborne and crashed into a chain link fence. While the car was airborne, the motor over-revved and the blower exploded. The remains of the dragster came to a stop right-side up, facing backwards on the track. Boyd was knocked unconscious during the crash. Otherwise, he was OK. |

Notes: Frank was at OCIR on January 21 for the second All-Pro race. He failed to qualify for the eight-car field, but he got in when Randy Allison could not run. In the opening round of eliminations, his 6.47/229.59 lost to Rick Ramsey's 6.13 in the "Keeling and Clayton" car. Bradley was at Pomona for the wet and wild NHRA Winternationals in February. The event was rained out twice. It was a 32 car field, and Frank was unlucky enough to qualify #17 with a 7.10/222.77. Why was it unlucky? Well, it forced him to run low qualifier, Don Prudhomme in the first round. Don qualified #1 with a 6.75, and he beat Bradley in the opening round, 6.96/200 to 7.095/211.26. Frank qualified #14 for the 32 car field at the Bakersfield March Meet, but his 7.04/221.66 in the opening round lost to Allison's 7.01/191. The following week (March 11), he was at Fremont for the AHRA Northern Nationals. This was a sixteen-car show, and he qualified #12. Unfortunately, he lost early. On March 18, he was at Fresno for its Winter Race of Champions. He also lost early there when his 6.58/192 in the first round, lost to Dwight Hughes' 6.43/229. The final OCIR All-Pro race was held on March 24 and featured sixteen-car fields. Frank's 6.42 qualified #7. But in round one, the car broke against Walt Rhoades. In May, he was back at OCIR for its Constructor's Championships. It was a 32 car field, and Bradley qualified #9 with a 6.51. An opening round 6.53/200.89 beat Bob Bommarito's 6.84/212, and in round two, Denver Schutz's off-pace 8.01/129 fell to his 6.96/190.67. He had a close race with Les Allen in round three that saw his 6.63/203.16 beat Allen's 6.67/220. But in the semifinals against Don Moody, he developed problems and shut down while Moody advanced at 6.52/222. Frank also ran 6.42 at OCIR. Frank was the 6th alternate DNQ at Indy with a best of 6.32/227.27. He was the first alternate at NHRA Ontario at 6.224/225.56. He got into the show but could not start against Larry Dixon Sr. in round one. |

Photo from the 1974 NHRA US Nationals, Indianapolis Raceway Park. | Frank started his season at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals in January He qualified #8 in the sixteen-car field with a 6.27/217.39. Another 6.27 at 220.58 advanced in the opening round and a holeshot 6.20/225.00 beat Jerry Ruth's 6.16/225 in round two. His run came to an end in the semifinals where Don Garlits unleashed Low ET and Top Speed (5.78/247) to stop Bradley's advance. He went to Pomona the following week for the NHRA Winternationals where his 6.12/220.04 qualified #11. Dwight Hughes fouled against him in round one, and Bradley took an easy 7.25/142.63 ride into round two. Unfortunately, an off-pace 6.43/215.82 lost to Bob Noice’s 6.30/201. At the Bakersfield March Meet, Frank’s 6.16/225.00 qualified #5 in the 32 car field. He won his first-round race easily and then took a close one from Randy Allison in round two where his 6.25/227.84 beat Randy's 6.27/230. He gave eventual winner Carl Olson his biggest scare in round three where Frank's 6.09/232 lost out to Olson's quick-leaving 6.10/217. At the end of March, he was at Fremont for the AHRA Northern Nationals. There he qualified #11, but he lost to James Warren in the opening round. A week later (April 6), it was Warren again who stopped him in the first round. This time at OCIR for the AHRA Grand American race held there. Frank had run a 6.40 to qualify #9. That was pretty good considering that there were 42 cars attempting to make the sixteen-car show. His next stop was at Sacramento for the second NHRA Division 2 race. He had a great leave in his first-round race that saw his 6.19/228.43 beat Ron Attebury's quicker 6.10, but in round two he lost to the eventual winner Olson. |

Notes: John Wiebe also ran 5.98 at Fremont 5/75 and 6.111/223.88 at Bakersfield 75 to qualify second. Wiebe beat Gary Ormsby in the first round, 6.26 218.97 to 6.36 218.97. Wiebe broke giving the second round to Frank Bradley. Indy 5.96/242.58 was one half of the quickest and fastest pass to date that that time (Ted Wolf, 5.97/243.24). |
