Notes: Chuck was at Fontana on September 26. A match race between Bill Alexander and Denny Miliani in the Masters & Richter car was to take place. Miliani broke on a warm-up run, and Jim Tice asked Griffith to step in and run Alexander. Chuck agreed, and a best of three match was run between these two. Chuck had problems on the first run when his Chrysler failed to start, and Bill soloed for the win. But Griffith came back to win the next two races and the match by running 7.99/199.54 over Bill, who lost a motor and then a solo 7.95/200.88 for the win. |

Notes: Name came from size of owner and crew (each over 300 lbs.) Ran 7.93 at Irwindale Dragway AHRA Winternationals. | Bill was at the Santa Maria Fuel Fest on January 16. He ran well, getting past a fouling Frank Martinez in the first round, and beating Steve Carbone in round two with a 7.85. He made his way into the finals by running a Low ET of the meet 7.74/200 over Nando Haase's 8.12/182. In the final, Tommy Allen's 7.77/199 gave Bill's 7.92/192 the runner-up money. At the AHRA Winternationals at Irwindale on February 13 he lasted until the second round when he lost to Tom McEwen. He was at Lions on February 26 for the UDRA Winternationals where he qualified #30 in the 32 car field with a 7.88/200.44. He lost early. At Bakersfield on March 5 (Saturday) for the March Meet, he ran in the 64 car field winning his first-round race with an 8.09/195.64 beating "Starvin" Marvin Schwartz at 8.35/173. Unfortunately, he failed to fire in the second round. |

Notes: Zane started the season at Riverside on January 1 for the KFWB Drag Festival. The event featured two eight-car Top Fuel fields, but Zane failed to qualify for either. He did better the next day at Fontana for the two-day UDRA race. He qualified on Saturday, January 2, for the sixteen-car show, and in the first round, his 7.85/194.38 beat Goob Tuller's 8.01/191. In the second round, the little Chevy broke advancing Tom McEwen. They were back at it on Sunday at Fontana, but Schubeck lost to Bill Leavitt in the first round. Lions held an eight-car show on January 16, and Zane failed to qualify. Lions had 31 cars show up to qualify for an eight-car show on January 30, which took a 7.94 or better to qualify. Schubert qualified and got past the first round with an 8.29/189.46, but in the semifinals, he fouled against Bill Alexander in Jim Brissette's car. He was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals on February 7, where he qualified with a 7.98/197.36. He fouled in the first round against Don Garlits but still ran 8.05/194.80. It was getting harder and harder for the Chevys to keep up with the Hemis on Nitro, but Schubert's Chevy was still keeping up. On April 17, he was at Lions for another sixteen-car show. He qualified #3 with a great 7.85/195.64 and advanced past the first round with an 8.21/179.26 when John Edmunds fouled. In round two, his 7.95/196.06 lost to Danny Ongais' 7.82/204. He had a good outing on May 1 at Lions for a sixteen-car show. He beat Ron Hampshire in the first round, with a 7.94/197.80, and in round two, a 10.33 advanced over James Warren, who fouled.
