Notes: I built my chassis at Haulin Chassis Winter of 64/65. None of the uprights were welded to the bottom frame rails from the firewall forward to the torsion tube. Mid 1965, I started to build my own slider clutches. This caused me to get behind the wheel for the 1966 season. I only ran a 354 CI Hemi that was .030" over along with a lower gear. Our MPH was usually between 202 MPH and 210 MPH because of the gearing, but ETs were as low as 7.50. |

Notes: Jack started the '65 season in this car at Riverside for the KFWB Drag Festival on January 1. He set Low ET of the meet while qualifying #1 with a 7.87/196.06. An 8.16/149.50 advanced past the first-round when Danny Ongais fouled away a 7.99/193 against him. In the semifinals, his 8.13/194.80 beat Rick Stewart's early shut off 8.24/124. Notes: Ran 7.82 at Irwindale Dragway AHRA Winternationals. McKenzie started the season with a semifinal finish at the Bakersfield "Jackpot Circuit Race." He lost to Frank Martinez. Dave was at Santa Maria on January 16 for a sixteen-car show, but he lost to Nando Haase in the first round. He was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals on February 20 and qualified #31 with a 7.86, but he lost early. Another 32 car show was run the following week (February 26) at Lions for the UDRA Winternationals. This time, Dave ran a 7.75/199.10 to qualify #18, but he went out early again. He was at a sixteen-car show at Lions on April 2, but a first-round 7.94 lost to Dave Babler's 7.82. The following day (April 3), he was at Carlsbad for the NHRA Division 7 Opener. Once again, he lost in the first round. Dave still had the first-round blues going when he failed to fire in the first round, at the Riverside Jackpot Circuit race on April 17. A week later (April 23), he went to Irwindale for a sixteen-car show. Dave qualified #11 with a 7.99, but an off pace 8.65/128 lost to Rick Stewart in the first round. McKenzie had a bit of bad luck at Lions on May 28 for a sixteen-car show. During qualifying, he had the throttle stick wide open, and he was forced to steer into the sand trap to get stopped. He was ok, and the car suffered minor damage. |
