Notes: Bradley started his season at Tucson in mid-January for the AHRA Winternationals. His 5.95 qualified second to Jerry Ruth's 5.88. In the opening round, his 5.96 beat Chris Karamesines' late 5.90. In the semi-final, he lost to Gene Snow. At Pomona, for the NHRA Winternationals, Frank's 5.73/250.69 qualified #10. In the first round, Larry Minor's 5.40/248 defeated his 6.01/221.12. He did not compete at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals or Atlanta and Baton Rouge. He was at Tulsa for the AHRA Springnationals. The AHRA shows were all eight-car fields at this time, and he qualified #5 at 6.10/233. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Ruth. Bradley improved to 6.00/238 to upset Ruth's 6.07/225. In the semi-final, he lost to eventual winner Don Garlits' 5.94/236, which beat his off-pace,6.21/221. Shortly after that, he was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. A great 5.64/242.24 qualified #3. But he slowed to 6.00/211.76 in round one and lost to Karamesines' 5.86/193. He then went to St.Louis for the AHRA Gateway Nationals. He qualified #4, and in round one, his 5.95/238 took out Dale Wilch's 6.25/218. He then set Low ET in the semi-final with a 5.76/236 over Dick Lahaie's 5.92/240. He faced Snow in the final, and Bradley smoked the tires to 6.02/231.37 in a runner-up finish to Gene's 5.89/240. He did not compete at the NHRA Grandnationals, but on July 8, he won the AHRA Grand American at US 30, Gary, Indiana. Three cars had qualified at 5.57, and Bradley's was good for the #3 spot on the qualifying chart. In the first round, his 5.58/252.39 beat Jack Ostrander. Karamesines fouled against him in the semi-final, and Bradley stormed to 5.53/255.31. The ET was a new AHRA record. He went up against Garlits in the final, and Frank was more than up to the task, as his 5.60/254.59 got the victory over Garlis' 6.13/175. The following week, he won again, taking the top honors at the NHRA Summernationals at Englishtown. Once again, he ran 5.57 (at 252.32) to qualify #3. He made only one qualifying run as only 12 cars had shown for what was supposed to be a 16-car field. He then took out Snow in round one with a 5.52, and in round two, his 5.66 beat Gary Ormsby's quicker 5.62. Gary Beck fouled against him in the semi-finals, and Bradley advanced with a 5.62. He faced low qualifier Joe Amato in the final, and Joe was the favorite to win based on performance. Bradley's car was the only one in the field running a Milodon engine and a conventional Spring-type clutch. But the two had a great race that came down to the wire, with Frank's 5.569/251.39 stealing the win from Amato's 5.57/249. The week after (July 22), he continued to show that he was for real. He was at West Salem's Dragway 42 for the ADRA Grandnationals. Only six cars had shown, and he qualified #3 at 5.6. He beat Ostrander in the first round before setting Low ET and Top Speed in the semi-finals at 5.62/253.52. Unfortunately, he was late off the line and, despite running so well, lost to Snow's 5.73/241. His next stop was at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. He qualified #7 for the eight-car field with a 5.77/237.46. In the semi-final, he beat Ormsby in round one before losing to eventual winner Connie Kalitta. In August, he was at Spokane for the ADRA World Finals. He lasted until the semi-final before losing to Karamesines. There were 24 TF cars at Indy attempting to qualify. Bradley managed to qualify #8 with a 5.65/250.69. In round one, he beat alternate Grant Stoms. In the second round, his 5.89 fell to Kalitta's 5.72. Frank's best NHRA times of the year were at the Summernationals at 5.569/254.95. Frank had a good NHRA season, but those were his best times and finish. Only six cars showed at the ADRA Grandnationals at Dragway 42, OH, Bradley qualifying 3rd at 5.70/246. In semis, lost to eventual winner Gene Snow's 5.73/241 holeshot despite setting Low ET and Top Speed of Meet with a losing 5.67/253.52. |

Notes: Likely Haase's greatest accomplishment this year was in June, taking Top Fuel Eliminator at the second Annual Hot Rod Magazine Championship at Riverside. Though qualifying in the middle of a 32-car field, Haase outlasted the likes of Yeakel Plymouth (McEwen), The Surfers (Sororkin), the Hawaiian (Prudhomme), the Bounty Hunter and Gotelli-Miliani. The final found him paired against the highly favored James Warren in the Warren-Crow car. Both cars encountered problems on the trophy run, but it was Haase who crossed the finish first. - RT | Ran a 7.75 at Indy US Nationals 9/65. |

Notes: Photo from 1979 US Nationals, where he ran a 5.81. Ran 5.99/245 in a first-round loss to Bruce Hagestad at NHRA Englishtown 7/79. Was Brown from Calabasas or Cypress? The Over the Hill Gang team had a fabulous NHRA season. They ran 5.80s, 5.90s, and 6.0s everywhere and won a lot. Best times were 5.800 at Seattle and 245.90 at Englishtown. |

Notes: Marvin's first national event was the NHRA Cajun Nats in Baton Rouge. He was a DNQ (times unavailable). He was at Rockingham on May 6th for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He qualified #7 in the eight-car field, and in round one, his 5.95 upset Jeg Coughlin's 6.02. In the semifinal, he slowed to an off-pace 6.47 that lost to eventual winner Bobby Hilton's 6.20 in the "Jim and Allison Lee" car. Marvin then was a DNQ at Columbus (times unavailable) and was the third alternate at Englishtown at 6.19. Martin qualified at the Indy Nationals, where he ran 5.975/245.90 for the fifth qualifying position. Unfortunately, he dropped to a 7.009/121.13 that lost to Clayton Harris's 6.28/225 in round one. That was his last NHRA national event of the year. Photo from the 1979 IHRA Dixie Nationals Atlanta Dragway. |

Notes: Photo from the 1992 NHRA US Nationals, Indianapolis Raceway Park. Also ran 4.884 at 1992 Houston Slick 50 Nationals. Did the team run 4.834/294.88 in the IHRA? Best NHRA times were 4.839/290.32 per Jim Hawkins' DragStats. | Mike started the season by qualifying #5 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 4.90/290.32. He lost in the first round, to Jim Head when both cars had troubles. Jim won with a 7.15. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he again qualified in the top half of the field with a 5.02/282.92 that got him the #6 spot. Once again, he lost to Head in the first round. The next NHRA race was the Supernationals at Houston, where he ran 4.88/290.32 to take the pole. A 4.89/287.17 beat Kim LaHaie's 5.06/268 in the first round, but in round two, he fouled away a 4.91/286 against Kenny Bernstein, who advanced with a 4.90/288. At the NHRA Gatornationals, Mike qualified #5 with a 4.91/290.04. He beat Connie Kalitta in the first round, with a 4.96/284.99 and in round two a 4.91/286.44 took care of Mike Dunn. Crew chief Ken Veney dialed in a little too much power in the semifinals, and Brotherton smoked the tires and lost to a wheelstanding Bernstein at 5.57. It was then on to Rockingham for NHRA's Winston Invitational. Mike qualified #7 in the eight-car field with a 5.06/282.39. He improved to a 5.00/285.08 in the first round, but it wasn't enough as he lost to Don Prudhomme's 4.96/283. The fifth NHRA race of the season was the Southern Nationals at Atlanta. A 4.96/285.39 qualified the "Coors Light" team #5 for the show. Unfortunately, Mike lost to Danielle DePorter in the first round. The team was overdue for a win, and they almost got it at the NHRA Mid-South Nationals at Memphis. A 5.02/285.98 qualified #6, and Brotherton ran 5.06/288.09 over Dick LaHaie's 5.09/279, a 5.02/284 in round two to beat Pat Austin and a 5.00/288.55 took out Bernstein in the semifinals. He met Cory McClenathan in the final, and Mike's 5.02/280.63 finished runner-up to Cory, who got his first-ever NHRA victory with a 4.97/294. His string of qualifying in the top half of the fields ended at the NHRA Springnationals when his best of 5.05/283.46 in qualifying put him in the #9 spot. In the first round, he improved to a 4.97/287.35 to beat Scott Kalitta, but he lost to Joe Amato in round two. It was then off to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals. Mike qualified #7 with a 5.04/282.66. A first-round 5.11/279.58 advanced when Lori Johns fouled, but in the second round, his 5.15/271.24 lost to Prudhomme's 5.09/274. Mike was way back in qualifying at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. He was #13 with a 5.01/285.62 best and another 5.01 at 285.08 lost to Amato's 4.97/284 in the first round. At Denver, for the NHRA Mile High Nationals, a 5.08/273.05 qualified #7. But he got another first-round loss when Austin pulled a slight holeshot and ran 5.07/276 and beat Mike's quicker 5.05/272.06. Early August saw the NHRA teams at Sonoma for the California Nationals. A 5.03/286.89 qualified Brotherton #9 in the show. He beat Bernstein in the first round, with a 5.00/282.13, but a second-round 5.09/246.64 lost to McClenathan's 5.05/289. |

Notes: The KING. Jerry ran 7.31 at Arlington, WA (May 1965) and 7.24 at Puyallup (May 1965). He crashed on a 202.70 mph run when the engine blew in the lights in July 1965. Jerry was the quickest Top Fuel car in 1965. Ruth's car was featured in a December issue of Drag News. This was a feature on his second car of the season as he had wrecked one on July 4th when the car barrel-rolled through the traps at 200mph. He was unhurt but a little sore. This was his third Woody Gilmore-built car, and the chassis was 150". It used a 392 Hemi with M/T rods and Venolia Pistons. Engle supplied the cam. The car weighed 1,280 lbs. |

Notes: Hank qualified #8 for the sixteen-car field at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals with a 5.71/248.75. A 5.72/252.59 beat Gene Snow's 5.82/234 in the opening round, but a second-round 5.79/251.46 fell to eventual winner Larry Minor's 5.78/251. He then went to Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals. Endres qualified #11 with a 5.72/250.69, but he lost to Don Garlits in round one. He really ran well in qualifying at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals, where he ran 5.52/259.74 for the #5 spot in the show. That was ahead of Gary Beck, Garlits, Connie Kalitta, and a host of others. Alas, in round one, Beck stepped up from his 5.60 in qualifying to run 5.49/257 to defeat Endres' 5.70/256.77. Maple Grove was the next stop on the NHRA tour for the Keystone Nationals. Hank qualified #5 once again with a 5.45/262.31. He became just the fifth Top Fuel driver to run a 5.3 time (behind Beck, Garlits, Darrell Gwynn, and Eddie Hill) with a first-round 5.386/247.52 that beat Kalitta. But he smoked the tires hard in round two, and his 8.04/94.27 lost to Gary Ormsby's 5.64/255. At Texas, for the NHRA Chief Nationals, Hank ran 5.44/261.55 to qualify #7. He beat Jack Revelle in the opening round with a 5.56/260.34. In round two, a 5.48/262.31 defeated Earl Whitting before his 5.56/256.26 lost to Gwynn's 5.27/276 in the semifinal. Endres qualified #1 at Phoenix for the NHRA Fallnationals with a 5.497/250.08. Unfortunately, the car broke on the line in the first round against Hill. The NHRA season came to an end at Pomona for the World Finals. A 5.436/261.29 qualified #6. In the opening round, both he and his opponent, Ormsby, had trouble getting traction, and Gary's 6.39/203 beat Hank's 6.44/223.54 in a Top Fuel race similar to the1960ss when the Top Fuel cars blazed the tires the whole length of the track. |
