Notes: 19-year-old top fuel driver. Qualified 15th at Gainesville 1992. | DePorter's best of 5.17/237.40 failed to qualify at Pomona for the Winternationals. She was the fifth alternate. She also failed to make the field at the Arizona Nationals with a 5.23 best that was good for the third alternate. A 5.20 at the Supernationals also failed to qualify (fourth alternate), but Danielle made her first NHRA race when she made the show at the Gatornationals with a 5.06/283.10 for the bump spot. She also ran her first-ever "four" in the first round, with a 4.98/277.77 that lost to Kenny Bernstein's 4.88/298. |

Notes: Runner up at 87 Ennis All-Stars. Also 5.380 at 87 Gatornationals, which was one half of quickest side by side in history with Darrell Gwynn at 5.240. Dan was also half of fastest side by side race in history at the 87 Gators with his 270.43 and Dick LaHaie's 271.00. Best standard NHRA event times were 5.259 Pomona Finals 87 and 271.16 at Gainesville 3/87. | Dan was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where his 5.39/269.94 qualified #4. An opening round 5.43/266.90 advanced when opponent Tim Morgan crashed. But in round two, the car failed to fire for his race against Darrell Gwynn. At the NHRA Gatornationals, Pastorini qualified #7 with a 5.42/266.58. He improved to 5.40/271.16 in the first round, to beat Richard Holcomb and in round two, his 5.45/270.43 beat Dick LaHaie’s quicker, but later 5.44/271. Dan made his best run of the weekend in the semifinals, where he ran 5.38/265.64, but it wasn't enough to beat Gwynn’s 5.24/269. The NHRA Winston All-Star race was held in April at the Texas Motorplex. Dan qualified #4 in the eight-car field with a 5.31/267.77. He ran a 5.23/272.39 in the first round, to trailer Connie Kalitta's 5.33/269 and in the semifinals, he stopped Don Garlits with a 5.37/267.85. He faced LaHaie in the final. Dick had run 5.24 twice in eliminations. Rain kept the final from being run until a week and a half later (April 15). In their race, Dan smoked the tires to 6.86/175.16 while Dick got the victory with a 5.37/268. His next stop was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. A 5.58/259.51 qualified #13 and the number proved unlucky as he lost to Garlits in the first round. On May 9, he was at Fremont (Baylands) for a best of three match race against Don Prudhomme. The Funny Car driver was given a 3-tenths handicap. The "Snake" won their first race with a 5.81/237 over Pastorini's 5.72/242. Dan won the second race with a 5.76/240.64 when Don fouled and shut off. In the deciding race, Prudhomme shut off with tire shake and Dan blew an engine, but his 6.65/144.69 rolled across the line first giving him the match race victory. Shortly after that, he was at Tulsa for its Spring race. It was another eight-car show and Dan's 5.85/238.72 qualified #5. Unfortunately, that set up a first-round race with low qualifier Frank Bradley. The two had a good race, but Bradley's 5.69/249 beat Dan's 5.75/250.00. NHRA’s next race was the Cajun Nationals held at Baton Rouge. A 5.56/254.45 qualified #8, but rain held up the event. He and opponent Gene Snow never showed for their first-round race as they both packed up and headed for Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals. This was Pastorini's first IHRA event. Dan qualified #2 with a 5.60/257. He set Low ET in the first round, with a 5.52 at 254 that beat Bob Strauss. He continued to look strong in the semifinals, where his 5.53/258 beat Jerry Marconi. He faced Hank Endres in the final. Things looked good for the "Coors" car, but Dan had a bit of bad luck as the oil pump broke, giving Endres a solo for the title. He enjoyed his first IHRA race enough that the following week (June 7), he went to Atco for the IHRA Summernationals. The field was short so he got the "odd-lot" solo in the first round, and ran 5.53/259.36. But in the semifinals, he once again had to shut off on the line with no oil pressure, giving John Carey a free ride into the final. He then went to Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. There, he ran 5.65/251.81 to qualify #10. But in the first round, Joe Amato's 5.47/262 beat his 5.79/247.93. |

He lost to Bill Mullins in the first round. The next show was the Gatornationals in March. He qualified #14 with a 6.02/237.59. A first-round 5.84/251.95 beat Chris Karamesines, but he lost a blower in round two and the race to Gary Ormsby. He did not attend the NHRA Southern Nationals or the Bakersfield March Meet, but he was at Firebird Raceway on May 11 for a best-of-three-match race against Dennis Taylor driving Dave Braskett's car. Frank won two straight with times of 5.84/232.55 and 5.74/237.46. He did not race at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals, but at the Springnationals, a 5.74/242.06 qualified #10. A first-round 5.73/246.98 lost to Dick LaHaie's 5.65/251. He went to Canada for the Grandnationals, where he qualified #6 in the eight-car field with a 5.60/249.58. Notes: Rick Howard photo from 1995 NHRA Oldsmobile Springnats, Columbus. Initially, a non-qualifier with a best of 5.15, 273.05 (18th overall), but was inserted into the first-round against eventual winner Scott Kalitta (photo) when Mike Smith could not make the call on Sunday. Woods ran an improved 5.13 against Kalitta, but not good enough to get around Scott's 4.82/301 blast. |

Notes: Gene debuted this new 300-inch Gene Gaddy machine at the NHRA Cajun Nationals. The car notably had a direct drive by NHRA Sonoma; did it have that from the beginning? Gene gets a lot of credit for driving that innovation in Top Fuel with this machine. He qualified #5 at Baton Rouge at 5.250/254.59 and defeated Rudy Toepke's off pace 6.67/132 with a 5.358/239.48 in round one. In round two, he lost to Darrell Gwynn, 5.19/274 to 5.298/257.95. Gene qualified #4 at Columbus at 5.238/273.80. In round one, he ran 5.216/268.49 to bury Jack Ostrander's 10-second pass. In the second round, Gene ran 5.269/254.23 to take out Dan Pastorini's 14-second shutoff. With a 5.210/256.55 defeat of Eddie Hill's 15-second shutoff, he reached the finals. That was the Low ET of the meet, but Gene then ran into the same problems as all his earlier competitors and shut off to a 14-second pass in the final, losing to Gwynn's 5.22/275. In Sanair, Gene qualified #3 at 5.217/279.06. In round one, he beat Ray Stutz with a career-best 5.162/252.26 to Ray's 5.43/261. IN round two, Gene stayed consistent with a 5.178/262.39 to 5.167/274.22 holeshot win over Eddie Hill. That put him into the final of the eight-car show against Dick LaHaie. Gene won a close race, 5.198/273.47 to 5.238/268.41. At Englishtown, Gene qualified #7 at 5.313/256.77. In round one, he beat Paul Smith, 5.374/250.97 to 5.48/249. He improved in round two to take out Gwynn, 5.297/258.32 to 5.34/263. Eddie Hill ended his day in the semis, 5.30/259, to an 18-second shutoff. Gene got even quicker at NHRA Sonoma, where he definitely had the direct-drive combo in the car. A 5.139/268.57 grabbed the number one qualifying slot. He set the Low ET of the Meet in round one with a 5.117/275.90 win over Gwynn's fouling 5.42/217. Gene beat Shirley Muldowney in round two, 5.193/270.59 to 5.34/272. He shut off to a 12-second pass in round three that sent eventual winner Joe Amato's 7.19/271 into the final. Gene continued to impress in Seattle, where his 5.067/277.34 qualified #2. In round one, he ran 5.115/240.96 to beat Stutz's 5.42/255. Gene took out Muldowney in round two, 5.109/273.30 to 5.19/276, and then took a 20-second coasting win when Frank Bradley broke. Darrell Gwynn got to him in the final, 5.25/266 to a 9.66 shutoff. Gene was the low qualifier in Brainerd with a 5.147/269.46 Low ET of the Meet effort. In round one, he beat Earl Whiting, 5.325/257.73 to 5.45/260. Gwynn beat him in round two, 5.25/266 to 5.332/217.02. Gene qualified #4 at Indy at 5.125/252.10 and took a 5.124/268.97 win over Whiting's shutoff in round one. In round two, Gene went 5.076/275.31 to take out Dennise Forcelle's shutoff run. He then really lowered the boom in the semis with a 5.006/276.66 Low ET of the Meet win over Darrell Gwynn's 5.21/275. But consistency bit him in the finals again, and Joe Amato got a 6.81-second win when Gene went 10.36. Gene delivered the promise that everyone seemed to expect after Indy when he ran the first NHRA four-second run at 4.997/279.06 at NHRA Houston on 10/06/88. That was the low qualifier for the event and was the second entry into the Crane Cams 4 Second Club for Top Fuel. Snow beat Gary Ormsby in round one, 5.083/272.64 to 5.15/266. In round two, he defeated Frank Hawley, 5.109/269.78 to 5.20/271. Eddie Hill, the first man in the fours, found them again in round three, and his 4.990/282.39 took out Gene's off pace 9.24. At Phoenix Fall, Gene qualified #9 at 5.238/262.00. Of course, that put him against low qualifier Eddie Hill, and he lost a 5.73/265 to 11.44 contest in round one. Gene was back to form at IHRA Ennis, where he was back in the fours again with a 4.974. At the NHRA World Finals, his 5.055/262.23 was the second qualifier after Joe Amato's Low ET effort of 5.016. Unfortunately, Gene fell off the pace in round one and lost to Frank Bradley, 5.83/255 to 7.178/122.53. It was a memorable year for Gene, who proved the direct-drive concept. Soon all other competitors featured the combo. Photo from Columbus 1988. |

Notes: Gave Glass Chariot roadster to Dick LaHaie and built dragster. The very first run with their new nitro methane-burning dragster, netted a speed of 197.75 for Canfield and Johnson. Very soon thereafter, they were among the first to enter Mickey Thompson's famed "200 MPH Club." In that season, they also won the famed 1964 Bakersfield, CA. Smoker's Meet, defeating the best dragsters in the nation to do so. - Michigan Motorsports HOF |

Notes: Number one qualifier at the NHRA Winters at 5.780/241.93. The ET held for Low ET of the meet. In the opening round, Funk's 6.06/216.34 beat a tire-smoking Jerry Ruth. In round two, his off-pace 6.39/226.13 lost to Richard Tharp's 6.03/234. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he was the first alternate at 6.24/239.99. Dale ran the first five at Bowling Green, KY, with a 5.996/238.72 on May 21. Funk was also at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals, but things didn't go too well. He qualified, but he came back out to better his time. He had a blower explode in the lights on the pass, and pieces of debris blew out his right rear slick. He brought the car to a safe stop, but the team was done as the car was too badly damaged. Things went better at Englishtown for the NHRA Sumernationals. Dale qualified #6 and ran 6.09/234.98 in the opening round to defeat Larry Bucher, who shut down early. He was the only one to run a "five" during eliminations, and it came in round two, where his 5.993/238.72 beat Bob Struksnes '6.19/240. In the semifinal, he had a close race against Jeb Allen that saw his 6.06/238.09 fall to Allen's 6.06/228. In August, he went to Martin, Michigan, for the PHR Championships. 29 cars were attempting to qualify for the sixteen-car field. His 5.94/238.09 qualified #3. He got to solo in round one when Larry Brown's Chevy broke. Dale's 5.86 (Low ET) at 238 beat Bill Pryor. In the semifinal, his 6.13/239.36 lost to eventual winner Don Garlits' 5.91/238. The next stop was Indy for the NHRA Nationals, where a 6.05 qualified #19 in the 32 car field. The car got slightly crossed-up in the opening round, and his 6.20/208.81 lost to Lee Weller's 6.06/232. |

Notes: Confirmed 6.02/230.76 from IHRA Bristol 1976 and 6.04/234.98 at Beeline Dragway Phoenix Winter Classic. | Paul started the '76 season by qualifying #1 at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals with a 6.03/229.00. The times held for Low ET and Top Speed of the meet. His 6.24/222.77 beat Dwight Salisbury, who smoked the tires in the first round. Another 6.24 at only 207.85 beat a tire-smoking Junior Kaiser in round two. In the semis, a 6.34/212.76 topped Bob Struksnes, who also lit up the tires. In the final, he faced the number two qualifier, Frank Bradley. In the final, Paul ran 6.31/224.43 but lost to Bradley's 6.15/222. Frank had Paul's number at the NHRA Winternationals, too, as Frank put him on the trailer in round two. The same thing happened at the Gatornationals. Paul qualified #3 with a 6.03/241.93, and in the first round, his 6.44/208.81 advanced over a tire-smoking Pat Dakin. But guess what? In round two, Bradley's 6.10/217 beat a tire-smoking Longenecker. He went to Miami-Hollywood for the IHRA Winternationals, where he made it into the semifinals before his 6.39/212.26 lost to Richard Tharp's 6.10/235. On April 11, he was at Kansas City International for the AHRA Show Me Nationals. Paul set Low ET in the first round, with a 5.97 over Dale Wilch. He lost to John Wiebe in the semifinal. Paul got another runner-up finish at the IHRA World Nationals at Amarillo. In the first round, he ran a 6.25/219.61 that beat Tharp's quicker 6.18/231. He had an easy run in the semifinal and then faced Don Garlits for the money. Garlits' 6.11/231 beat his off pace 6.64/173.20 for the title. He repeated his finish at the next IHRA event, the Dixie Nationals at Atlanta, right down to losing to Garlits again in the final. This time his 6.28 lost to Don's 6.17/233. In June, he was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals and qualified way down the list in the #13 spot. He lost a motor while winning his first-round race with a 6.22/216 that beat Kaiser. In round two, he lost to the eventual winner Shirley Muldowney, with his 6.51/180.72 falling to her 6.03/240. Paul ran well at the IHRA Springnationals but failed to make the finals. He won the WCS race at Maple Grove. Paul qualified #1 with a 6.02 (Low ET) at 231.36. He beat Bob Edwards and Larry Bucher before dropping Don Durbin in the final. In July, he made the trek to Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Unfortunately, he qualified #9, setting up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Tharp. In that race, Tharp's 6.04/234 beat Paul's quicker 6.03/235.22. The following week (July 18), he took another WCS win. It came at the NHRA Division 2 race at Suffolk. He was really running well, beating Grant Stoms in the first round, with a 6.08/218, and in the semifinals, his 6.00 (Low ET) at 230 beat Tharp. He faced old pro Clayton Harris for the money, and Paul's 6.11 got him the victory over Harris' 6.27. The best NHRA times were 5.942 at Pomona and 241.93 at Gainesville. Formerly listed 5.905. Removing until we get confirmation. |

Notes: Kalitta's best of 6.06/233.76 failed to qualify at the season-opening NHRA Winternationals (3rd alternate). He went to Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet. A 6.05/235.60 qualified #11 in the field. He faced his former girlfriend Shirley Muldowney in the first round, and his tire-smoking 7.15/220.04 lost to her 5.96. A week later (March 15), he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where he ran 5.832/245.90 to qualify #8. A first-round 5.848/241.28 beat Kerry Sweigert, but in the second round, Kalitta again faced off against Muldowney. And once again, the results were the same, with Shirley's 5.74/250 beating Conrad's 6.135/215.82. Kalitta was in Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, but his best of 5.945 was good for the sixth alternate in the eight-car show. On May 3, he was at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. Kalitta qualified #7 in the eight-car show and lost to Jeb Allen's 5.85 in the first round, with a 6.20. Connie qualified #13 at Columbus with a 5.981/233.96. He lost to Terry Capp in the first round, 5.98/219 to 6.096/238.09. He qualified #7 at the Mile High Nats with a 6.06/237.46 but lost a close one to Johnny Abbott on a holeshot in round one, 6.012/235 to 6.003/236.84 (.023 seconds - about 7 feet). He qualified #4 at Englishtown with a nice 5.821/239.99. But nemesis Terry Capp upset him in round one, 6.03/233 to 6.165/229.59. Connie upped his game at the Grannadional Molson, grabbing the #2 qualifying spot at 5.770/245.23. But he got bit again in round one, as Richard Tharp took a 6.04/243 to 6.129/240.00 decision. Connie qualified #12 at Indy with a 5.762/245.23. in round one, his 5.743/246.57 victory over Jerry Ruth's 5.772/239.99 was the quickest side by side pass in drag racing history. Shirley could not show for their second-round race, and he coasted to a 7.13. But Connie lost fire against David Pace in the semis, ending his day. Connie ran 5.837/231.95 at the Golden Gate Nats to qualify #10. He upset Gary Beck in round one, 5.82/235.60 to 6.09/213, and he improved to 5.76/240.00 to take out Frank Bradley's 5.98/227 in round two. Marvin Graham beat him in the semis, however, as Connie shut off to an 8.70. At the OCIR World Finals, Connie went 5.815/235.60 to qualify #12. Jerry Ruth returned the favor from Indy by taking him out in round one, 5.72/242 to 5.834/236.22. Michael Beach photo from Martin, MI, 1981. |

Notes: The team took delivery of their new Don Long-built car the day before the NHRA Winternationals. They ran a best of 6.02 for the first alternate. Not bad, considering that 40 cars were going for the 16-car field. At the NHRA Gatornationals, they made the field with a 5.88/242.58 qualifying #12. Mark lost to Shirley Muldowney in the first round. On March 22, they were at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. There, a 6.02/244 qualified #5. In the first round, a 6.14/230 fell to Jody Smart's 5.98/238. A 5.91 failed to qualify for the eight-car field at the NHRA Southern Nationals on April 26, but they ran 5.82 to qualify #2 the following week at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am race. Another 5.82/241.28 beat a wheelstanding Frank Bradley in the first round. In the semifinal, a 5.92/242.58 topped Smart's quicker 5.87/243. Mark faced Marvin Graham in the final and lost a close 5.84/238 to 5.85/246.57 race. At the next IHRA event, the Springnationals at Bristol, on May 17, they again qualified #2, this time with a 5.85. A first-round 5.86 beat Don Garlits' 6.01. Unfortunately, he broke an oil line in the semifinal, smoked the tires in his own oil, and lost to Jeb Allen. Oswald got a big win at the IHRA World Nationals, beating Garlits in the final with a 5.91/245. On the NHRA side, he qualified #9 at the NHRA Springnationals with a 5.94/241.93. He met low qualifier Billy Williams in the first round, and Mark's 6.14/234 advanced when Williams's car broke at half-track. In the second round, a 6.02/239 lost to Terry Capp's 5.98/238. He made the finals again at the next IHRA race, the Northern Nationals, but he had to settle for runner-up when Richard Tharp beat him this time. The team didn't run at the NHRA Mile High Nationals but showed up at the Summernationals at Englishtown. A 5.83/241.28 qualified #6. He beat Butch Osmon in the first round and Tharp in the second (with a 5.90/243.90 to Tharp's 5.92/243), a 5.99/238.72 in the semifinal beat a tire-smoking Capp. The team found themselves in another final round—this time against Gary Beck. Beck had been running strong, and his final round 6.02/221.13 beat Oswald's 6.16/236.84. Back at Bristol for the IHRA Summernationals, they didn't run as well as they had been. Mark qualified #7 in the eight-car field and a 6.18 in the first round, lost to Allen's 6.00. The team bypassed the NHRA Grandnationals before showing up at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. Once again, they just squeaked into the field with their 5.789/245.23 getting in on the bump. A first-round 5.84 lost to Shirley Muldowney's 5.74. The team rebounded by reaching the final at the next IHRA event, the IHRA US Open, on September 13. A first-round 5.82/212 beat an off-pace Beck at 6.37. A 6.11 took care of a tire-smoking 6.42 from Tharp in the semifinal. In the final, a slow 6.27/228.42 lost to Graham's 5.98/240.00. The 245.23 at Indy was the team's best NHRA speed. |

Notes: New car in April 1965. Ran 7.80 at Bristol Springnationals, 7.75 at Indy. The 208 at Richmond was considered the fastest in the sport for 1965. | At NHRA Bristol, Jimmy Nix entered two cars, the Carroll Brothers & Oxman car and his own dragster! He was low qualifier at 7.65/192.70 in the Carroll Bros. machine and went 7.80/202.84 in his car. He beat Danny Ongais in Round one with the Carroll Bros. machine at 7.56/195.22, but crossed the centerline and lost with his machine (avoiding what could have been a very interesting eventual matchup)! He beat Marvin Schwartz in round two, but lost a close one to Tom Hoover in the semis. Qualified # 8 and finished runner up to Don Prudhomme at Indy with best times of 7.75/205.94, but we need to verify which car that was. Assuming it was his own car. The new car in April reportedly had Jimmy switching to a hemi, but the NHRA reports from the Bristol event refer to his car as Chevy. We need to confirm. |
