Notes: Gene was pretty impressive at Muncie on May 20 for the IHRA Northern Nationals. There were over 40 Top Fuel cars that showed up to qualify for the sixteen-car field, and his 6.90 got him the #3 spot. He improved to 6.71/206.89 in the opening round that beat Dick LaHaie's quicker, but later 6.59/213. But he hurt some parts on the run and was unable to return for round two. |

Notes: Randy Meyer was at Darlington in March for the IHRA Winternationals. During qualifying, he broke a rod and had to thrash. Eventually, his 5.40/260.56 qualified #2 in the eight-car field. An opening round 5.45/227.21 beat Doug Herbert, who smoked the tires, but the car broke in the semifinals when his engine let go just off the line against Jim Bailey. At Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals, his 5.25/272.56 qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field. In the first round, an off-pace 5.57/241.74 lost to Tommy Johnson Jr's 5.15/282. Shortly after that (June 19), he was at Alabama International for the IHRA Supernationals. Randy ended up as the first alternate, with a 5.48/212.96 best. He had not competed at New York International for the IHRA Empire Nationals, but he was at Morocco for the IHRA Summernationals, where he qualified #7. He upset Herbert in the first round with a 5.31/266.42, but he lost to Jack Ostrander in the semifinal. Meyer was at the Nebraska Motorplex for the IHRA Mid-American Nationals in mid-August.
