Bought the Ex Kilpatrick & Connell car from Gene Snow because the cockpit was bigger. Debuted at Bakersfield 3/85 with a 5.76, 245 qualifying pass. Lost to Ron Smith in round one on a holeshot with both drivers running 5.91. Crew was Bobby Rowe, Donnie Couch and Larry Cook. Set a top fuel track record of 5.88 seconds at Houston International Raceway in beating Buddy Warren in a match race.

Notes: ET and speed confirmed by Jim Hawkins' DragStats. Crashed in Gainesville. | Jack ran a great 4.85-290.32 to qualify #3 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. In the first round he ran 4.93-286.80 but lost to a quick leaving Tony Pedregon at 4.97-289. At the second race of the year, the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he qualified #11 with a 4.95-288.18. In the first round he broke. Jack continued to qualify well at the third NHRA race of the season, the Slick 50 Nationals at Houston, where he ran 4.86-290.79 to qualify #6. He out-qualified the likes of Kenny Bernstein, Joe Amato, and Eddie Hill. But in the first round he overpowered the track, smoked the tires, and lost to Mike Dunn's 4.90-287.

Notes: Blair's Engineering. Tommy Allen must have been taking it easy early in '70 as i can't find nothing on him until Aug 15 at the OCIR Anniversary race where he lost fire on the line in round one. It gets better though when he qualified first with a 6.87 at Irwindale but still lost in round one when he smoked the tires against Kelly Brown. Back at OCIR for their double header on Aug 29, he qualified low with a 6.74 but lost to James Warren's 6.75 -212 in round one with an off pace 7.17-195. At the Lions Anniversary race on Sept 26, Allen was starting to set a pattern. He qualified low with a Low ET of the meet, 6.57 then lost in round one. He made it past the first round at Irwindale's second annual Grand Prix on Oct 3 but lost to Gary Cochran's holeshot 6.91-212 on Allen's quicker, 6.89-210.28. On Oct 24, Lions held an eight-car fuel meet and Tommy lost in the semi's to Danny Ongais' 6.54-227 with a 6.66-220.04. Allen won a big one driving Byron Blair's car to a win at the AHRA World Finals on Nov 15 beating Preston Davis in the final. A 6.83 qualified him #13 all the NHRA Supernationals but he lost early.

Notes: Photo from Indy 1980. Confirmed 5.76, 246.57 at Gainesville 1981. Where was the 5.72, 247.93 run? | Tony qualified #12 at the NHRA Winternationals but a 6.02 in the first round lost to Jeb Allen's 5.87-245. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he ran a career-best (by two tenths) of 5.76-246.57 to qualify #5. But once again he went down in the first round, this time, the car was at fault as it was stuck in reverse giving Butch Osmon a single into the second round. Ceraolo attempted to qualify at the NHRA Southern Nationals but his best of 5.91 failed to make the eight car field. He did get a runner-up finish at the NHRA Eastern Regional in May at Englishtown when Doug Kerhulas stopped him for the money. He qualified #7 on May 24 at the NHRA Cajun Nationals, but in the first round against Terry Capp, he pitched a blower. He was close to making the field on June 27 at Sacramento for the NHRA Western Regional. A 6.11-229.60 was good for #1 alternate. Shortly after that, he raced at Indianapolis for the NHRA Eastern Regional where his 6.10 did make (#7) the show. Unfortunately, a first round 6.26-211.76 lost to Jim Head's 5.99-228. At the NHRA Summernationals, he again ran well, but his best of 5.99-231.36 was again #1 alternate. He traveled up to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals but again failed to qualify (5.99-236.22).

Notes: Runner up at 1969 NHRA Nationals. Destroked iron Keith Black 426. Photo from 1969 World Finals, Dallas Tx. After Lou Baney's accident with the Folger Ford car at the PDA Championships on July 19, Brown was without a ride. Leland Kolb stepped in and gave Brown a job driving for him. They were very successful the rest of the year. On August 9, they raced at the OCIR Anniversary Race. Kelly singled in the first round when Bob Williams shut off on the line and in a twin tire-smoking battle in the semifinals, his 7.01-204.08 beat Gary Cochran's 7.54. In the final, James Warren fouled away Low ET and Top Speed with a 6.87-222.77 giving Brown's close, 6.88-204.54 the victory. At Indy, a 6.66-222.22 qualified #16. In the first round, Doc Halladay fouled against him. In round two, John Wiebe fouled against him. In the third round, Dave Powers slept against him, running a 6.59-225 that lost to Kelly's 6.71-210.28. In the semifinal, Jim Paoli's clutch exploded and Kelly was in the final. In the final, he faced Don Prudhomme. Don ran a 6.51-223 for the win to Kelly's 6.78-205.01 runner-up effort. He won the Division seven race at Irwindale over a sixteen car field on Sept 14. He set Low ET and a track record, in the final with a 6.91-214 that beat Don Argee. And at the Division seven final at OCIR the following week (Sept 20), he won again. A semifinal 6.79 over Dwight Salisbury stood for Low ET. In the final, a 6.82-222.22 beat Carl Olson's tire smoking, 7.26-201.79. He ran the Irwindale Grand Prix on Oct 4 where a 7.09-172.74 got past the first round. He singled in the second round when Pat Foster broke. Don Soltz fouled against him in round three (32 car field), and another foul by Dwight Salisbury put him into the final against Olson. This time, Olson came out on top with a 7.13-196 over Kelly's 7.28-216.34 in a tire-smoking race. A 6.80-213.27 qualified #6 at the NHRA World Finals on Oct 26. Kelly singled in the first round when Ken Bernstein's engine wouldn't stay lit but in the second round, it was his own engine that lost fire giving Bennie Osborn a single. On Nov 9 he suffered a rare first round loss at Carlsbad for the PDA Race of Champions event. Salisbury's holeshot 7.71-211 beat Kelly's 7.55-209.78. He more than made up for the first round loss by winning the next PDA Race of Champions event at Sacramento on Nov 16, beating James Warren in the final with a 6.75-209.30.
