Notes: In 1969, B&M won the Winternationals in their 392-powered Woody car which had debuted at the 1968 World Finals. By mid-summer of '69 the team had changed to a Ramchargers-sourced elephant motor. Qualified #1 (6.43) at Indy '69 with an all-time quickest ET on low qualifying pass. The stunning time stood as the sport's best for a year. John ran three of the 15 fastest speeds in 1969. Originally listed a 241, but that time was not supported by Beebe-Mulligan.com, which cited a best 1969 speed of 233.32. John died at Indy 1969 when he had a terrible fire during a first round win. See the racer website for details. -- BM | Beebe-Mulligan reset the track record at Union Grove two days running in early June '69, with a 6.70 following the previous day's 6.71. -- RT Mulligan started his '69 season at the AHRA Winternationals where a 6.99 qualified second. He failed to make it into the later rounds but as mentioned above, Pomona was a different story. At the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified with a 7.16-225.00. A first round 7.12-221.13 beat Tom Larkin's 7.24-206. In round two, a 6.86-222.77 beat James Warren's 7.14-214. Bennie Osborn's 7.42 fell to John's 6.86-221.13 in the third round and a 6.93-217.91 beat Leroy Goldstein in the semi-final. For the win, a 6.95-211.38 beat Don Prudhomme's 8.52-126. It was quite a win, considering 82 cars fought for the 32 spots available. At the second OCIR All-Pro race at OCIR on Feb 9, a 6.94 qualified #3, but in the first round, he lost a blower belt slowing the car to a 7.11-208.80 that lost to Dave Beebe's 7.01-211. At the Stardust Open on Feb 16 at Las Vegas, a 7.12 qualified #2. Mulligan singled in the first round when Tommy Allen's car wouldn't stay lit. In the second round, he set a 6.85 track record while beating Hank Westmoreland. Ron Rivero lost to John's 6.90-221.57 in the semi-final that set-up a rematch of the Pomona finalists. This time, Prudhomme came out on top with a 6.94-216 beating John's 7.10-211.76 runner-up effort. At the Bakersfield March Meet, a 6.88-225 beat Butch Maas' 6.95-222 in the first round but in the second round he lost a blower and the race to Steve Carbone. On March 16 at Riverside for the HRM Championships,John qualified #8 with a 7.01. In the first round, he beat Maas again with a 7.10-233.22 (top speed). A 7.14-216.86 beat Jerry Ruth's quicker 7.02-219 in round two but he hurt some parts and was unable to return for the third round bringing Ruth back into the show on the break rule. Mulligan set top speed again at the final OCIR All-Pro race on March 29, when a first round 7.06-222.76 beat Gerry Glenn. Against Prudhomme in the semis, he had a violent engine explosion and lost. He was not hurt.

Notes: Ewing did the tin. 392 Chrysler by Pink. Guedel was involved in the TV industry as a director, producer of some sort. The car was beautiful in that as noted Ewing built a full nose and tail piece for the car. The car was run until the end of 1968, when it was replaced by the 69 version. Car took part in the then famous Hollywood Lane Parade of 1968. Car was pushed the length of the course with driver suited up and nice looking female seated atop the engine, waving at the crowd. I saw it live on TV way back then.

Notes: Won Division 7 four times, 72-76. Also 5.832 at Fremont 5-75 and 5.922, 226.70 Low Qualifier at Bakersfield 75, 5.922-226.70 and 5.80 and 5.84 at Ontario World Finals 75. | Started the season on Jan 5 at the Irwindale Grand Premiere. Thirty cars tried to qualify for the sixteen car field. Warren qualified first with a 6.05, almost two-tenths better than the second qualifier. He advanced past the first round when Danny Ongais lost fire and a second round 6.04 beat a tire-smoking Gary Read. In the semis, he got another easy ride when Tom Toler lost fire. But a final round low et and top speed at 6.01-239.36 over Walt Rhoades' 6.18-236 proved it was no fluke. The team then set low et of the meet at the AHRA Winternationals with a 6.10 over Shirley Muldowney in the second round. In the semi-final, a 6.35-206.88 beat Gary Beck's 6.42-229. But in the final, Marvin Graham stopped him. After those runs, it was surprising that the team's best of 6.11 (third alternate) failed to qualify for the NHRA Winternationals. But at Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet, they were back on top of their game, a 5.92-226.70 qualified Warren first. In round two a 5.93-233.16 beat Tony Nancy (6.15-221), and a third round 5.91-229 beat Larry Dixon's Chevy. In the semi-final, he set low et with a 5.87-235.60 over Gary Ritter. In the final, another 5.91 at a top speed of the meet 243.24 gave James the title over Jeb Allen's 6.13-235. Another win in March came at the AHRA Grand American West Meet at OCIR. He again set low et and top speed at 6.10-234.37. He beat Bob Noice in the final. He didn't race at many IHRA events but he did attempt to run the Winternationals at Miami-Hollywood but they failed to qualify. In May, at Fremont for the Northern Nationals, Warren set low et of the meet in qualifying with a 5.83-237.46. A first round 5.99-238.09 beat Walt Rhoades' 6.19-234. In round two a 5.96-232.55 beat Dennis Baca. He met Frank Bradley in the final. A 5.93-234.98 defeated Frank's 6.00-242 for the victory. In July, he ran 6.01 to Rick Ramsey's 5.95 to take runner-up at OCIR's Nitro Championships.
