Notes: Dave was the 1966 Division 5 Champ. The 6.86 followed by a 7.01 using an early multi-plate Crower slipper clutch (at NHRA regional event. High speed runs using a special rear-end gear. Notes: Won Division 7 four times, 72-76. The 5.88 was low qualifier at the 74 World Finals. Also 5.94, 241.93 low qualifier at 74 Winters. | Started the season on Jan 12 for the Irwindale Grand Premiere. There was no qualifying as starting positions were drawn from a hat. All eight cars were members of the Cragar five second club. Unfortunately, James shut down early in his first round race with an 8.48 losing to John Stewart's wheelstanding 7.62. He then went to Pomona and qualified first as mentioned above. A first round 6.01-230.17 beat Jim Murphy's off-pace 7.05, but Jerry Ruth's 6.27-202 beat his 6.43-162 in the second round. The team loaded up and went to Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet. Warren qualified #11 but failed to make it into the finals. On March 17 at the AHRA Northern Nationals at Fremont, a 6.38 qualified #3. A first round 6.18-230.27 beat Frank Bradley. In the second round, a 6.26 beat Dwight Salisbury's 6.34. In the semis, they lost a motor at half-track, leaving Dennis Baca a 6.21-234 winner. On April 6 at the OCIR AHRA Grand American race, James set low et of the meet in qualifying with a 6.06. That was pretty good considering there were 42 cars going for 16 spots. He ran 6.22 and 6.14 in the first two rounds before exploding a supercharger in the semi-final against Dan Richins. He still advanced because Dan fouled. In the final, a 6.35-223.88 was a bit short of Don Garlits' 6.24-239.36.rn

Notes: Ewing did the tin. 392 Chrysler by Pink. Guedel was involved in the TV industry as a director, producer of some sort. The car was beautiful in that as noted Ewing built a full nose and tail piece for the car. The car was run until the end of 1968, when it was replaced by the 69 version. Car took part in the then famous Hollywood Lane Parade of 1968. Car was pushed the length of the course with driver suited up and nice looking female seated atop the engine, waving at the crowd. I saw it live on TV way back then.

Notes: Photo from 81 U.S. Nationals. 250.00 run at Indy on Sept. 6, 1981 was the 9th entry into the NHRA 250 MPH Club for Top Fuel. Confirmed 5.947 from Gainesville 3-81. | Failed to qualify at the NHRA Winternationals but rebounded nicely by qualifying #2 at Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet with a 5.90-237.46. Unfortunately, he smoked the tires in the first round and lost to Marvin Graham's 5.95-240. He then went to Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where a 5.94-226.13 qualified #15, but in the first round, Richard Tharp's 5.91 beat Terry's off-pace 6.66-161.29. At the next NHRA event, the Southern Nationals on April 26, a 5.84 qualified #5. He advanced past the first round with a 5.99-220.04 when low qualifier Mike Tarter fouled. In the semi-final, Jody Smart broke and Terry advanced to the final with a 6.01-234.98. In the final,he ran a quicker 5.91-238.72 but lost to Shirley Muldowney's 5.95-239.36. He followed that finish with another runner-up spot at the next NHRA event, the Cajun Nationals on May 24. There, he qualified #3 with a 5.88 and ran a 6.09 in the first round to get past a blower-popping Tony Ceraolo. In the semi's, a 6.06 beat Smart's 6.11. But in the finals, Capp had problems and slowed to a 7.15 and Jeb Allen won with a 6.11-233. He made another good showing at the NHRA Springnationals in June. He qualified #5 with a 5.92-239.99 and beat Connie Kalitta in the first round with a 5.98-219. In round two another 5.98-238 beat Mark Oswald (6.02-239). But in the semi-final, Gary Beck stopped him with a 6.11-220. He ran at the NHRA Mile High Nationals on July 4 where he qualified #5 with a 6.03-238.72 but he lost to Allen in the first round. AT the NHRA Summernationals, he qualified #12 with a 5.86-239.99. A first round 6.03-233.76 advanced when Kalitta fouled. A second round 6.02-233.76 got past a tire-smoking Graham, but in the semi-finals, it was he who smoked the tires to a 15.52-50.30 loss to Mark Oswald's 5.99-238. In August, he ran in Canada at the NHRA Grandnationals at Sanair, but a best of 5.95, 237.46 left him outside (#3 alternate) in the qualified eight car field. Terry made up for not making the show at the next NHRA event, the U.S.Nationals. There 46 cars tried for the sixteen car field and he qualified #5 with a 5.72 and made it all the way to the semi-finals where despite a quicker 5.80 he lost to eventual winner, Johnny Abbott's 5.84. It was then on to Fremont for the NHRA Golden Gate Nationals. Another great run of 5.73-230.17 qualified #5. He beat Lucille Lee's 6.40 in the first round with a 5.88-235.60 but in the second round a 5.83 by Tharp ended Capp's chance for the win. He went to OCIR with high hopes for the final race of the season the NHRA World Finals. A disappointing 5.91-234.98 left him out of the show and was #3 alternate.
