Notes: ET and speed confirmed by Jim Hawkins' DragStats. | Shelly qualified on the "bump" at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.01/290.69. In the first round she fouled and shut off to a 5.40/212 that lost to Cory McClenathan's 4.82/295. She was first alternate with a 5.13/266.58 at the next NHRA race, the Arizona Nationals. At Houston, a career-best 4.87/294.11 qualified #9 for the NHRA Supernationals. In the first round both Shelly and Kenny Bernstein ran 4.91 (Anderson at 291.45), but Kenny got the win. Gainesville was the next stop for the NHRA tour. Shelly qualified #5 with a 4.89/290.97, but a first-round 4.98/281.07 lost to Mike Dunn. She did not compete at the NHRA Winston Invitational, but was back on the tour for the Southern Nationals at Atlanta. Shelly qualified #10 with a 4.96/283.91. In the first round both she and Mike Brotherton smoked the tires. Anderson's 7.18/119.85 lost to Mike's 6.30/220. At the sixth race of the year, the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, a 4.98/283.19 qualified #11. She lost to McClenathan in the first round. The seventh race of the season was the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown. Shelly qualified #9 with a 4.91/279.15. In the first round she ran another strong 4.97/274.89, but Rance McDaniel beat her with a 4.93/296. Mid-June was the NHRA make its annual stop at National Trail for the Springnationals. A 5.04/278.81 qualified #12. She stepped up to a 4.99/279.76 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to get around Bernstein's 4.92/294. Anderson qualified #5 at the NHRA Western Nationals with a 4.99/277.09. In the first round she took a little nap on the line and Don Prudhomme's 5.20/260 beat her quicker 5.15/269.29. Finally, at the tenth race of the season, the NHRA Mile High Nationals at Denver on July 25. She got her first-round win on the year and the winning time was a 10.64/72.80. Shelly shut off after watching Bernstein foul in the other lane against her. In qualifying, she had run 5.33/255.53 for the #14 spot in the show. In the second round, Shelly ran her best time of the day, a 5.31 at 258.76, but she lost to Doug Herbert's 5.24/273. The month of August didn't go so well when her best of 5.13/273.97 failed to qualify (first alternate) for the NHRA Autolite Nationals at Sonoma. The following week (August 8), she failed to qualify at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals with a 5.12/279.15 best (third alternate). On August 22, Anderson debuted a new Uyehara built car at Brainerd for the NHRA Champion Auto Stores Nationals. It didn't help her in qualifying as her 5.63/193.54 failed to make the show. There were 17 cars there and she was, unfortunately, the slowest. Shelly hoped to turn things around at the start of September. She showed at Indianapolis for the US Nationals and attempted to make the field. But once again she failed to get in; a best of 5.05/277.60 was good for the fourth alternate. Her over as crew chief at Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals and it must have helped as her 4.98/280.54 qualified #13. She picked up to a 4.89/289.48 to beat Tommy Johnson Jr's 4.91/287 in the first round. She made it past the second round for the first time this year with a 5.67/169.90 when Pat Austin was shut off on the line with a fuel leak. In the semifinals, a 4.95/285.53 advanced her into the finals over a tire-smoking Eddie Hill. In the final, she ran Mike Dunn in Darrell Gwynn's car. It was a close race with her 4.98/281.42 prevailing over Dunn's 4.99/278. It was Shelly's first NHRA National event win. |

Notes: Warren started the '65 season by qualifying #2 with a 7.87/179.64 at Riverside on January 1 for the KFWB Drag Festival. The little Chevy had problems in the first round, and slowed to an 8.63/156.52 that lost to Kenny Safford's 8.04/199. On January 16, the "Warren and Coburn" team was at Lions for an eight-car show. James qualified with a 7.86/195.22 and won his first-round race with a 7.99/189.86 over Paul Sutherland. He lost in the next round. Warren qualified #9 at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals with a 7.75. An 8.36/141 advanced past a fouling Don Prudhomme in the "Hawaiian" in the first round, but in round two he went into a wheelstand and shut off, losing to eventual winner Tom Hoover. The days were numbered for the little Chevy motor when the team rolled into Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. James attempted to qualify both the "Warren-Crowe" Chrysler powered car and the "Warren-Coburn" Chevy entry. The Chrysler car qualified while the Chevy's best of 8.03 came up short of the 8.02 "bump" for the show. A week later (February 13), Warren ran 7.85/191.08 to qualify #5 in a sixteen-car show at Lions. He beat Ron Hampshire in the first round, with a 7.92/189.06. In round two his 8.15/185.94 beat Pete Petrie's 8.43/185. In the semifinals he lost to Rick Stewart. The following day he was at Fontana for another sixteen-car show. Once again he qualified #5 with a 7.81. Once again he made it into the semifinals. He started by beating Val LaPorte in the first round, with an 8.01/178.57. That was his best run of eliminations as a 9.32/141 advanced past round two while in the semifinals, the Chevy came up ailing and his 8.27/149.25 lost to Mike Sorokin's 7.69. The last time the Chevy was run was at Lions on March 27. He fouled, running an 8.50 against Hampshire in the first round. |

Notes: This was the former Ed Pink car. The team came out and won the first two eastern meets of the season, winning at Dragways Inc. and Englishtown. Number one qualifier at the 64-car PDA event at Lions Drag Strip with a 7.08/225 on 7/15/67. The following week (July 23), Al won over an eight-car field at Aquasco. Friedman set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 7.42. In a strange first-round race, the "Wheeler-Dealer" lost fire but still won when Ronnie Still broke. He singled in the semifinal when his competition broke. A final round 7.48/211.26 gave him the victory over Ray Marsh's 7.81/193. They ran 6.836 at 223.88 at Indy (tied for Top Speed of the meet), but unfortunately, it was in a first-round foul against Don Prudhomme, who coasted to a 9.46 win. |

Notes: Ran 7.26 National Record at Bristol TN on 9/25/66. Where was the 7.06 from? Ran 7.74/198.22 at Lions on 2/01/66. | Vic was at Tulsa for the NHRA Division 4 race on July 3. He won his first-round race with a 7.81, but in the semifinal, he fouled away a 7.73/200 against Fred Swanda. At the NHRA Division 2 final at Bristol, Vic had a great day. He won the event by getting a first-round solo. In the second round, he set Low ET with a 7.22/210.76 to beat Pete Robinson's Ford. In the final, he met Bill Mullins, but Bill lost a clutch and Brown stormed to a 7.30/195.64 to take the victory. Earlier in the day, he had reset the NHRA record to 7.26. Ran 7.41 at Indy Nationals. |

Notes: Won Top Eliminator at Indy with 7.321/215.82. Won Winternationals at Pomona that year too (times to come), and turned 7.68, 206.42 at Lions on February 1 and 7.51/200.00 at 1966 March Meet. Ran 7.65 at Irwindale Dragway AHRA Winternationals. | Mike had big shoes to fill. He replaced Don Prudhomme at the wheel of Roland Leong's "Hawaiian." How do you follow a driver like Prudhomme in the driver's seat? Well, he did it by winning the Winternationals at Pomona. Mike qualified #3 with a 7.66 in the 32 car field. He beat Roy Thode in the first round, with a 7.57/208.80. In the second round, a 7.55/208.80 beat Paul Sutherland. He almost lost in round three when Pete Robinson had him beat, but Pete lost a blower belt and Snively squeezed past for the win. In the semifinals, a 7.59 beat James Warren's slightly quicker 7.58. For all the marbles, he ran a 7.54/209.78 to win over Jim Dunn's 7.59/207. The team went to Lions the following week (February 26) for the UDRA Winternationals. A 7.68/206.42 qualified #11 in the 32 car show, but they failed to reach the finals. At the Bakersfield March Meet, the "Hawaiian" lasted until round three when Mike got out of shape against Warren and crossed the centerline. On March 20, Mike ran an eight-car show at Irwindale. He qualified #2 with a 7.62 and ran an 8.32/95.44 to advance past the first-round, but in the semifinals, a 7.73 lost to Rick Stewart's 7.64. On April 2, he won a 16-car show at Irwindale. Mike beat the "Dark Horse" in the first round, with a 7.61/192.70. In the second round, a 7.76/166.66 advanced when John Martin fouled in the Muse-Crafton car. In the semifinal, he beat Dave Babler and for the money, a 7.53 beat Danny Ongais. The team was back at Irwindale on April 9 for another 16-car show. Snively lasted until the semifinals before losing to Dave Beebe. The "Hawaiian" team frequented Irwindale showing up on April 23 for yet another 16-car show. Mike qualified #1 with a 7.58. In the first round, he beat Babler's 7.68/209 with a track record 7.45 at 210.76. In the second round, a 7.55/190.66 beat Ray Ayres' 8.02/193. Mike was a little sleepy in the semifinal and his 7.58/206.88 lost to Stewart's 7.71/213. He set Low ET the following week (April 30) at Irwindale. He ran a 7.65/198.66 in the first round, while beating Dunn's 7.84/199. In round two a 7.97/181.08 beat Ayres' 7.95/193. Another 7.97/181.08 lost to Zane Schubert's 7.77/207 in the semifinal. Mike won the next Irwindale Top Fuel show on May 7th. He qualified #3 with a 7.87 and picked up to a 7.64/187.50 in the first round, over the injected car of John Evans. He got around Tommy Allen's 7.98/200 in round two with a 7.65/200.88. In the semifinal, he soloed with a 7.99/180. In the final, he beat Dunn with a 7.56/201.78. The next day they were at Carlsbad for a Jackpot Circuit race. In the first round, Snively's 7.57/202.24 beat Dunn's 7.64/205. In the semifinal, a 7.65/202.70 lost to eventual winner Beebe's 7.58/206. |

Notes: Goldstein was at Riverside on March 20 for a Jackpot Circuit race. In the opening round, his 7.80/202.70 defeated Ron Matin's 7.96/169. In the semi-final, he fell off to 8.52/196.92 in a loss to Tommy Allen's 7.79/199. The following week (March 26), Leroy qualified #3 a for a sixteen-car show at Lions. In the first round, he nipped James Warren's 7.87/205 with a 7.86/206.88. He then lost in round two. He was back at Lions on April 18 but failed to qualify for the eight-car show. After qualifying ended with a 7.87 bump, Leroy ran a 7.72/196.06, which would have put him in the middle of the field. On May 7, he was back at Lions for another eight-car show. This time, he just made the show with a 7.89/196.97, good for #8. He set Low ET in the first round, with a 7.50/201.78 that lost to James Warren's 7.63/202. The next day, the Jackpot circuit race found the Crower-Blair team at Carlsbad. Leroy fouled against Bill Leavitt in the first round. On May 21, Lions held one of its weekly eight-car shows. Leroy qualified second with a 7.59, and a second 7.59/207.84 lost to Jeff Bliley's 7.82/196. Goldstein was at Irwindale on June 11 for an eight-car show. Although his 7.71 would have easily qualified, he damaged the engine on the run and could not run eliminations. He was at Carlsbad on June 17 but failed to win and the next day (June 18) found the team at Irwindale where a first-round 7.95/200.00 lost to Danny Ongais' 7.60/193. At the HRM Championships at Riverside on June 19, a 7.70/203.16 qualified #21 in the 32-car field. In the first round, he showed his driving talent when his 7.77/200.88 beat Dave Beebe's much quicker 7.52/213. On July 2, he was at Irwindale for an eight-car show where he qualified with a 7.68. Unfortunately, he shut off with no oil pressure in the first round. The next day (July 3), he went to San Fernando for another eight-car show. He qualified #3 with a 7.95/197.80 and, in round one, a 7.91/169 beat John Martin. In the semifinals, his 7.92 lost to James Warren's 7.68. Irwindale held an eight-car show on August 20, and Leroy qualified #2 with a 7.73. He won his first-round race with a 7.74/207.84. In the semifinal, a 7.80/196.92 beat Steve Porter's ailing 8.35. He lost to Dwight Salisbury in the final. On August 26, he was a Carlsbad for an eight-car show. He advanced past the first round with a 7.80/203.16, but in the semifinal, Allen's 7.53/190 beat his 7.78/202.24. He was runner-up to Allen at a Jackpot Pro Circuit race at Carlsbad on September 5. His quicker 7.71/210.76 lost to Tommy Allen's 7.76/208 in the final. On September 16, he won an eight-car show at Carlsbad. He beat Jack Jones in the first round, and in the semifinals, Ongais fouled against him. In the final, he got another gift when Allen also fouled. Goldstein ran 7.42/204 for the win. Leroy got himself another big win on September 25 when he won the Fremont Fall Championships. He set Low ET in the first round, with a 7.17 over Gene Winther, and in the final, he ran a 7.65/215.82 (Top Speed) for the victory. On October 8 at Irwindale, Leroy qualified second with a 7.50. He made it to the final against Larry Faust but broke on the line giving Larry a solo (7.78/168.53) for the win. A week later (October 15), he returned to Irwindale for another eight-car show. He didn't do as well when he lost to Beebe in the first round. He went to Carlsbad the next day and won. In the first round, a track record 7.27 at 214.78 beat Dominic Cardoza while he ran an easy single in the semifinals. In the final, he faced Cardoza again, who had gotten back in on the "break rule." Once again, Leroy won, running 7.37/214.28 for the victory. Goldstein advanced past the first round at the Irwindale Grand Prix race with a 7.49/187.10 when Herb Ries lost fire. In the second round, his 7.77/149.50 lost to Tommy Dyer's 7.72/202. |

Notes: Malone qualified #1 for the sixteen car field at Green Valley Raceway for the AHRA Nationals with a 7.43/215.82. The speed was a new track record. His 7.59/213.28 beat Bush and Payne in the opening round, but he lost to John Wiebe in round two. |

Notes: Won Division 7 four times, 72/76. The 5.883 was the low qualifier at the 74 World Finals. Also 5.94/241.93 low qualifier at 74 Winters. | Started the season on January 12 for the Irwindale Grand Premiere. There was no qualifying as starting positions were drawn from a hat. All eight-cars were members of the Cragar five-second club. Unfortunately, James shut down early in his first-round race with an 8.48 loss to John Stewart's wheelstanding 7.62. He then went to Pomona and qualified #1 as mentioned above. A first-round 6.01/230.17 beat Jim Murphy's off pace 7.05, but Jerry Ruth's 6.27/202 beat his 6.43/162 in the second round. The team loaded up and went to Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet. Warren qualified #11, but he lost to Billy Tidwell in the first round. On March 17 at the AHRA Northern Nationals at Fremont, a 6.38 qualified #3. A first-round 6.18/230.27 beat Frank Bradley. In the second round, a 6.26 beat Dwight Salisbury's 6.34. In the semis, they lost a motor at half-track, leaving Dennis Baca a 6.21/234 winner. On April 6 at the OCIR AHRA Grand American race, James set Low ET of the meet in qualifying with a 6.06. That was pretty good considering 42 cars were going for 16 spots. He ran 6.22 and 6.14 in the first two rounds before exploding a supercharger in the semifinal against Dan Richins. He still advanced because Dan fouled. In the final, a 6.35/223.88 was a bit short of Don Garlits' 6.24/239.36. 6.29 230.17 1974 NHRA US Nationals. |

Notes: Nick started the season at Riverside Raceway on January 1 for the KFWB Festival race. He failed to qualify for the eight-car field, but the track set up another eight-car field for the non-qualifiers. Marshall's 8.10/193.94 qualified low for that group. He won his first-round race with an 8.12/198.66 when his opponent, Ron Hampshire, lost fire. He lost in the following round. The next day, he was at Fontana for a sixteen-car show. In the first round, his 7.84/195.22 defeated Wayne King's 8.15/191. But in round two, a 7.90/191.08 fell to Herb Ries' 7.78/196. He was back in Fontana on January 17 for an eight-car show. He beat Jeep Hampshire in the final for the victory. On January 31, Fontana held yet another race. Unfortunately, Nick's 7.94/190.66 in the opening round lost to Bill Leavitt's 7.98/192. Another win came at Fontana on February 14. He had qualified #4 for the sixteen-car field with a 7.80. He won his first-round race with an easy 8.24/190.26. In round two, his 7.83/191.08 beat Bobby Vodnick's 8.09/191. He had another easy pass in the semi-final when his opponent Maynard Rupp failed to fire. He faced Mike Sorokin in the final, the "Surfers" car broke, and Nick's 9.10/118.73 won. In the first week of March, he competed at the big Bakersfield March Meet. A 7.91/195.64 qualified #28 in the 64-car field. Marshall was at Sanford, Maine, on August 22 for a best-of-three match against Dick Roberts in Clyde McKaba's car. Nick came out for a warm-up pass to break in a new set of Goodyears. The car got out of shape, and he took out the lights. There was no damage to the car. In the first round of the match, Dick got a great hole shot, and his 7.85 beat Marshall, who once again had handling problems. After the run, it was discovered that they had a cracked cylinder wall. Another engine was installed, and Nick ran the track's first 200 mph run with a 7.91/200.44. Marshall won Top Fuel at San Fernando on November 7. He also set Low ET and Top Speed at 7.86/206.88.; Photo: "Drag Racing Hero's: Dragsters" website - MB |

Notes: Earl failed to qualify at the NHRA Supernationals at Houston. He qualified #2 at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals with a 5.22/269.46, but he lost a blower on the line in the first round. At the NHRA Gatornationals, he qualified #15, and in round one, his 5.22 beat Lori Johns' identical 5.22. In round two, Whiting beat Dick LaHaie in a twin tire smoker with a 5.25/276. In the semifinals, his 5.26 lost to eventual winner Darrell Gwynn's 5.22. Earl's best times were 5.113 at Englishtown and 284.00 in eliminations at the World Finals. AKA The Likable Logger. Notes: Gene Snow built this Top Fuel car for the '72 season. The 225" chassis was built by Woody Gilmore (RCE), and a Keith Black Hemi powered it. Internals include Crower cam, M/T rods, and Forgedtrue 6.5:1 pistons. Cragar supplied the blower drive and manifold while the 76% nitro was fed to the engine by Enderle injection. The GMC 6/71 was built by Don Hampton. Don Kirby did the paint, and Nat Quick did the lettering. Snow picked 21-year-old Chip Woodall, who had recently been driving for Jackie Peebles to handle the dragster. He debuted at Pomona and qualified at 6.71/194 but lost the first-round on a fouling 7.27/204. He won NHRA Columbus with best times of 6.396/225.00. The 6.396 was low et and #1 qualifier. In round two, he ran 6.490/227.27 at the Amarillo World Finals but lost to a Herm Petersen holeshot 6.52. Those three were the only NHRA national events for the team in 1972. Chip was injured in an accident in Hope, Arkansas, on the way to the Summernationals, and the car was destroyed. Did Chip earlier run 6.20 at NED? Where were the 6.11/233 numbers run? |

Notes: Photo from Indy 1990. ET and speed confirmed by Jim Hawkins' DragStats. Dick drove with Miller colors and under his own name this year. We need to confirm where he ran which car. 5.035 Pomona Winters, 279.32 Phoenix, 4.931 Houston Spring, 282.92 Memphis. Best times Englishtown to Indy: 5.004 Englishtown, 281.07 Seattle. | The Miller American cars were owned by Dick LaHaie, not Larry Minor. Larry had the sponsorship deal and got Dick to run his car under the colors while Minor raced his own (Former Gary Beck) car and the funny cars. - Dick LaHaie, Racin & Rockin Radio, 2/24/14 |

Notes: Photo from Indy 1987. Car was built as an alcohol dragster and converted to Top Fuel in 1987. It was raced in Top Fuel in 1987 only. | Mike made his Top Fuel debut at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. He made his licensing runs during the weekend of the event. Darrell Gwynn helped him out here to ease his transition from alcohol to Nitro. His first run was a 11.77/70 followed by a 6.92/110. Finally, he ran a 5.72/233 that qualified for the race. He won his first-round race over John Carey's 5.88/236 with a 5.61/236, but in the semifinals, he came up against his teacher, Gwynn. Mike was on a good run until his engine let go, and he slowed to 6.10/165 in a loss. The following week (March 22), he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Unfortunately, his best of 5.59/255.02 was good for the second alternate. His next stop was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. There he was the third alternate for the show with a 5.89/253.16 best. He had much better luck at Rockingham in May for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. A 5.67/257.14 beat an engine-blowing Joe Amato in round one, while in the semifinals, Richard Holcomb fouled against him and Brotherton advanced with an easy 7.13/129.12. His run came to an end in the finals where Gwynn unloaded Low ET and Top Speed with a 5.39/261 to win. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Cajun Nationals, but just one week later (May 31), he was on the pole at Bristol with a career best 5.53 at 257. Mike beat John Davisson in round one, but a 5.64/260.11 in the semifinal lost to eventual winner Hank Endres' quicker-leaving 5.65/258. He then went to Atco for the IHRA Summernationals, but he didn't have much luck there as he lost to Gene Snow in the first round. Then it was off to Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. A 5.68/248.61 qualified #14. He picked up slightly to a 5.63/247.52 in the first round, to advance when Bill Mullins fouled. In round two Mike fouled and shut off to 5.98 against Amato who won with a 5.52/259. |

Notes: Photo from 1969 World Finals, Dallas, Tex. Confirmed 6.629/221.67 from NHRA US Nationals 9/69. | John was at Lions on February 9 for an eight-car show, but he had problems and his best of 7.79 failed to qualify. Wiebe won a sixteen-car show at Continental Divide Raceway on April 13. He ran 7.54 and 7.51 in the first two rounds before stepping it up to a 7.47 (Low ET) at 191.88 over Joe McKee's 7.66/183 in the semifinal. In the final he copped Top Speed of the meet as well with a 7.62/213.28 beating Doc Halladay's 7.89/207. Another win came at the Division 5 opener at Omaha Dragway on May 4, where he set Low ET in the first round, at 7.16 on his way to the final where a 7.22/198.22 beat Bud Dabler. Another win came at the AHRA Southern Nationals in Memphis on May 31. A final 6.95/221.46 won him that title. He qualified seventh at the NHRA Springnationals at Dallas with a 6.80/231.36 (Top Speed). He beat Tom McEwen in round one, with a 6.90/225.56, but he fouled against George Cox in round two. It was back into the winner's circle the following week on June 21 at Donnybrooke Speedway for the Division 5 race. Halladay fouled against him in the first round, and John ran an easy 7.39/163.93. In the semifinal, a 7.03/218.54 (Top Speed) beat Bob Stuart who got crossed up. He ran a single at 6.90/218.46 for the win when Norm Gingrass had blown his motor while winning his semifinal race and was unable to repair in time for the final. 15 cars showed up for the eight available positions at Oklahoma City on July 5. Wiebe not only qualified, but he made it into the final. A first-round 7.12 beat Jimmy Nix and another 7.12/201.34 beat Larry Brown in the semifinals. In the final, Wiebe's 7.14/221.12 lost to upstart Kenny Bernstein's slower 7.16 in Prentiss Cunningham's car. He suffered a rare first-round loss on July 13 at the fourth Division 5 race at Thunder Road Dragway in Denver. Mike Snively's 7.20/207 beat John's 7.35/198.66. |
