Notes: ET and speed confirmed by Jim Hawkins' DragStats. | Shelly qualified on the "bump" at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.01-290.69. In the first round she fouled and shut off to a 5.40-212 that lost to Cory McClenathan's 4.82-295. She was first alternate with a 5.13-266.58 at the next NHRA race, the Arizona Nationals. At Houston, a career-best 4.87-294.11 qualified #9 for the NHRA Supernationals. In the first round both Shelly and Kenny Bernstein ran 4.91 (Anderson at 291.45), but Kenny got the win. Gainesville was the next stop for the NHRA tour. Shelly qualified #5 with a 4.89-290.97, but a first round 4.98-281.07 lost to Mike Dunn. She did not compete at the NHRA Winston Invitational, but was back on the tour for the Southern Nationals at Atlanta. Shelly qualified #10 with a 4.96-283.91. In the first round both she and Mike Brotherton smoked the tires. Anderson's 7.18-119.85 lost to Mike's 6.30-220. At the sixth race of the year, the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, a 4.98-283.19 qualified #11. She lost to McClenathan in the first round. The seventh race of the season was the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown. Shelly qualified #9 with a 4.91-279.15. In the first round she ran another strong 4.97-274.89 but Rance McDaniel beat her with a 4.93-296. Mid-June was the NHRA make its annual stop at National Trail for the Springnationals. A 5.04-278.81 qualified #12. She stepped up to a 4.99-279.76 in the first round but it wasn't enough to get around Bernstein's 4.92-294. Anderson qualified #5 at the NHRA Western Nationals with a 4.99-277.09. In the first round she took a little nap on the line and Don Prudhomme's 5.20-260 beat her quicker 5.15-269.29. Finally, at the tenth race of the season, the NHRA Mile High Nationals at Denver on July 25. She got her first round win on the year and the winning time was a 10.64-72.80. Shelly shut off after watching Bernstein foul in the other lane against her. In qualifying, she had run 5.33-255.53 for the #14 spot in the show. In the second round, Shelly ran her best time of the day, a 5.31 at 258.76 but she lost to Doug Herbert's 5.24-273. The month of August didn't go so well when her best of 5.13-273.97 failed to qualify (first alternate) for the NHRA Autolite Nationals at Sonoma. The following week (August 8), she failed to qualify at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals with a 5.12-279.15 best (third alternate). On August 22, Anderson debuted a new Uyehara built car at Brainerd for the NHRA Champion Auto Stores Nationals. It didn't help her in qualifying as her 5.63-193.54 failed to make the show. There were 17 cars there and she was, unfortunately, the slowest. Shelly hoped to turn things around at the start of Sept. She showed at Indianapolis for the U.S. Nationals and attempted to make the field. But once again she failed to get in; a best of 5.05-277.60 was only good enough for the fourth alternate. Her over as crew chief at Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals and it must have helped as her 4.98-280.54 qualified #13. She picked up to a 4.89-289.48 to beat Tommy Johnson Jr's 4.91-287 in the first round. She made it past the second round for the first time this year with a 5.67-169.90 when Pat Austin was shut off on the line with a fuel leak. In the semifinals, a 4.95-285.53 advanced her into the finals over a tire-smoking Eddie Hill. In the final, she ran Mike Dunn in Darrell Gwynn's car. It was a close race with her 4.98-281.42 prevailing over Dunn's 4.99-278. It was Shelly's first NHRA National event win.

Notes: Photo taken at the 1975 NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Florida. Rocket ad in National Dragster touted a 5.80 run at US 30. Read was a strong runner, especially in the early part of the '75 season. Gary qualified #5 at Irwindale for the Grand Premiere event in Jan. That was pretty good considering that there were 30 cars trying to make the sixteen car field. He beat Frank Prock in the first round but in round two he smoked his tires and lost to the eventual winner of the show, James Warren. At Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals, Read qualified first with a 6.18 but he failed to make the finals. He ran strong again at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where he used a 5.97 he qualify #3. In the first round a 6.20-223.88 beat Gaines Markley but in round two the car came up ailing and could only muster a 9.01 which lost to Herm Petersen's 6.22-225. At the Gatornationals, he set Low ET in qualifying first with a 6.04-226.70. A first round 6.14 beat Pat Dakin but he hurt the motor and was unable to repair in time to make round two.

Notes: Did Jim really run this fast in 1969? Jim started the '69 season at Sacramento on Jan 1. His first race of the year resulted in a first round loss when Jim Herbert's 8.05-215 beat his quicker 8.02-188.28. He then went to Irwindale for an eight car show on Jan 12. A 7.36-210.76 qualified second but once again he lost in round one, this time, Larry Dixon's 7.40-207 beat Jim's 7.44-206.42. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, he fouled against Bennie Osborn in the first round. On Feb 16, he was in Las Vegas for the Stardust Open and he finally got past the first round when he beat Jerry Ruth. Don Prudhomme's 6.91 dropped Nicoll in round two. On March 2, he ran at Bakersfield for the March Meet. A 7.07-212.23 first round effort dropped Jim Davis. In the second round Hank Westmoreland fouled, and against Dixon in round three, Jim smoked the tires and lost. On July 13, Nicoll was at US 30, Gary Indiana, where he won the UDRA Nationals. His victory was tarnished however when he was given "popcorn" times of 6.29 in qualifying, a 6.17 (Low ET?) and 6.26 in eliminations, and a final round 6.26-234 that runner-up Joe Krupinsky's 6.68-228 was very close to.

Notes: Won Division 3 in 77, 78, and 80. | At the NHRA Division Three Opener in April at Indianapolis, Jeg qualified #3 in the eight car field with a 6.12-240.00. A 6.13-230.76 beat Bill Goudreau in the first round, but in the semifinals, a 6.15-237.46 lost to Don Garlits' 6.03-234. He was at the NHRA Cajun Nationals on April 27 at Baton Rouge. In qualifying, he set a new track speed record of 249.30. His ET of 5.98 qualified him #7 in the eight car show. He beat Garlits' 6.02-242 in the first round with a 5.99-235.60. Unfortunately, he broke in the semifinals, giving Jeb Allen a free ride into the final. He won the second Division Three race held at Edgewater on May 4. Jeg qualified first with a 5.96-245.23. He made his way to the finals where he beat Mark Howick for the victory with a low ET and top speed run of 5.90-248.61. Coughlin continued to run well, qualifying #7 at the NHRA Springnationals with a 6.00-234.37. He advanced past a tire smoking Dave Uyehara in the first round but Garlits' 6.06 in round two stopped his off pace 6.20. At the end of June he was in Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. It was an eight car show and he qualified in the #5 spot with a 6.12. That set up a first round meeting with low qualifier, Jerry Ruth. Ruth had run Bandimere's first "five" in qualifying. Sure enough, Jeg's 6.20 lost to eventual winner Ruth's 6.08.

Notes: Bill qualified #7 with a 7.97-189.86 at Pomona on Jan 9 for the Jackpot Pro Circuit Fuel race. He beat Don Prudhomme in the first round before losing to Tommy Allen in the semifinals. Another Pro Circuit Fuel race was run at Pomona on Jan 23. Once again he qualified with a 7.97, but this time it was only good enough for #14 spot. He lost early. At Lions on Feb 26 for the UDRA Winternationals, a 7.90 just made the show in the 32 spot. Once again he lost early. Bill qualified #5 at a sixteen car show at Lions with a 7.86 on May 14. In the first round, he improved to a 7.80-196.92 and he ran an even better 7.77-188.28 in the second round but lost to Ken Safford. He was back at Lions on May 28 for another sixteen car show and a first round 7.82-200.00 beat Rick Stewart but Leavitt's motor blew and Stewart got back in under the "break rule." He finished runner-up to Allen on June 25 at a TF show at Carlsbad. Lions held an eight car show on July 9 and Bill qualified #5 with a 7.63-204.54. He advanced past the first round when Bob Downey failed to fire in the "Howard Cam Special." In the semifinals, he only needed an 8.81-128.36 when Don Hampton shut off with no oil pressure. In the final, he ran an 8.07-166.05 for the runner-up spot to Dave Beebe's 7.47-191. On August 15, Bill was at Carlsbad for an eight car show. Unfortunately, he ran an off pace 8.26-184.42 in the first round and lost to Allen's 7.60-180. The next day (August 16), he was at Lions for an eight car show. He had trouble and was unable to run in the first round. On August 26, he was back at Carlsbad but his bad luck persisted when he broke in the first round.

Notes: License 7D112. AKA Chubasco. | On Feb 26, Jack was at Lions for the UDRA Winternationals. He qualified #27 in the 32 car field with a 7.84-195.94. He failed to make the finals. He was at Bakersfield for the March Meet. On Saturday March 5, he ran in the 64 car show for Sunday's sit out position. Jack beat Jim Dunn's 7.86-183 in the first round with a 7.75-201.34. In the second round Garlits fouled against him and in the third round, he slowed to an 8.48-138.86 loss to Roy Thode's 7.75-194. On March 27, Pomona held a Jackpot Circuit race that had seventeen cars show up for the eight car field. Ewell qualified but in the first round he took a little nap and his 7.95-201.34 lost to Ray Shultz's slower 8.08-178. At another Jackpot Circuit race at Riverside on April 17, Jack again made the show but he lost to the eventual winner John Mulligan in the first round. The next day (April 18) he went to Lions for an eight car show. Unfortunately, his best of 7.89-198.22 failed to qualify and he was second alternate.
