Notes: Ron qualified #22 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.19/219.50. A 7.28/187.10 beat Leroy Goldstein's 7.27/216 in round one, while in round two, Chuck Kurzawa driving the "Ramchargers" car fouled against him. In round three, he opened some eyes when he upset the '67 event winner Connie Kalitta. Rolstad's 7.20/222.76 beat the "Bounty Hunter's" 7.23/219. His run ended in the semifinals, where he had troubles and shut off to 12.47 that lost to Dwight Salisbury. Ron attended the PDA Championships at OCIR on March 3, but he failed to get far in eliminations. He did win NHRA's Division 6 Race at Arlington in April over Ron Goran. |

Notes: Anderson engines in Bernstein's car (former McEwen chassis). | On June 9, the Texas Pro Fuel circuit held a race at Tulsa. Twenty-six cars tried to qualify for the sixteen spots. Bernstein made the show and in the first round, advanced over Jimmy Nix who fouled. In round two, Kenny's 7.56/198 lost to Dwight Salisbury's 7.27/202. The Texas Pro Fuel circuit held another eight-car show on June 15 at Odessa Raceway Park. Bernstein ran a 7.58/208.80 to qualify #7. He beat Larry Brown's 7.56 in the first round, with a holeshot 7.61/208. In the semifinal, he used a 7.34 to beat Gary Bailey's 7.45. Kenny went on to win the event with a 7.76/197.36 in the final when opponent George Cox lost a clutch on the line and was unable to run. Kenny made it two in a row at Amarillo on June 23 for an eight-car Pro Fuel circuit race. He qualified #2 with a 7.20/225.69. He beat Ray Whisenhunt in the first round, and in the semifinals, he beat Bennie Osborn's 7.41 with a 7.37. In the final, he raced and beat Larry Brown in the "Chaos Kids" fueler for the title. In July, Amarillo hosted the Texas Championships and Bernstein qualified #1 with a 7.39/214.28. In the first round, his off-pace 7.73 lost to Osborn's 7.46, but Bennie had lost an engine while winning and was unable to run his semifinal race so Kenny was reinstated into the show. It did him little good as he lost to Larry Brown's 7.49 with a close 7.51/213.76. |

Notes: Childs & Albert house car. On July 6, Tom qualified on the "bump" spot of the sixteen-car field at OCIR for the Nitro Championships with a 7.53. He advanced past Gary Southern in the first round, with a 7.81 at a shut off 164.23. In the second round, he was sharp to the tree, where his 7.59/203.16 beat Chuck Griffith's quicker 7.45/208. In the semifinal, his 7.58/203.60 lost to eventual winner Don Prudhomme's 7.17/219. Still, it was a strong showing for the "Addict" team. On July 20, Toler was at Lions for the PDA Championships. There were so many cars there that they had a second full sixteen-car field if you didn't qualify for the low sixteen. It took a 7.04 to qualify in the low sixteen, and Tom had run 7.20/209.78 attempting to get in. Since it wasn't quick enough, he was slotted into the #14 spot in the second field. Unfortunately, he lost to the eventual winner Gerry Glenn, in the opening round of eliminations. |

Notes: Cliff was driving this car at Martin, Michigan, on May 11 for the UDRA Circuit race. He beat Dick Lahaie and Duane Nichols in the "Nitro-Holic" in the first two rounds with a 7.55/207 best. He lost to Dave Powers in the final. The next day, he was at Tri-City for another UDRA race. This time he won the event. He started by running 7.28/208.32 to beat Lahaie. He only needed a 7.60/198.66 to beat Noel Mauer in the semifinal. He faced the "GuZler" driven by Duke Ray in the final, and Duke had set Low ET and Top Speed, so he was going to be tough. But Duke had trouble and slowed to 8.15/138 in the final to finish runner-up to Zinc's 7.28/206.42. |

Notes: On June 22, Chuck was using an SOHC Ford motor at the second NHRA Division 7 race at Stardust Raceway. He made it into the final by advancing past a fouling Bob Hightower in the first round, and beating Jim Dunn in the semis. In the final, a 7.45/210.75 lost to Tom Larkin's 7.13. He was at OCIR on July 6 for the Nitro Championships. His 7.35 qualified #9 in the sixteen-car field. This set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier James Warren. In their race, Warren ran 7.83/223 in a loss to Chuck's 7.50/200.88. In the second round, Griffith took a little nap on the line and his 7.45/208.80 lost to Tom Toler's 7.59/203 in the "Addict." Notes: Frank was at OCIR on March 3 for the PDA Championships, but he lost early in eliminations. Shortly after that, he was at the Bakersfield March Meet, where his 7.30 qualified on the "bump" for the 32 car field. He upset Ron Manke in the opening round, but in the second round, his 7.26/199.54 fell to Leroy Goldstein's 7.01/205. |

Notes: Boyd was at Lions on May 11 for an eight-car show. He qualified on the bump with a 7.43/180.00. An opening round 7.55/204.08 beat Ray Ayers' late 7.50/218, but Boyd lost in the semifinals. This car was destroyed on May 25 at Lions. Jimmy was attempting to qualify for the eight-car show and after running a 7.31/207.36, he pulled the 'chute and the throttle got stuck wide open. The car went off the track and struck some logs. It got airborne and crashed into a chain link fence. While the car was airborne, the motor over-revved and the blower exploded. The remains of the dragster came to a stop right-side up, facing backwards on the track. Boyd was knocked unconscious during the crash. Otherwise, he was OK. |
