Notes: Doug was at Fontana on February 14 for a sixteen-car show. He qualified #1 with a 7.75 but lost to Dave Babler in the first round. The following week (February 20), he was at Lions for the big UDRA show. Unfortunately, he fouled against Maynard Rupp in the first round. On March 20, he was back at Fontana for a sixteen-car show. He qualified with a 7.92, and in round one, his 7.93/192.30 defeated Norm Weekly, who lost fire. He ran 8.11/189.86 advanced, and won his semi-final race. In the final, Doug's 8.09/189.06 finished runner-up to Don Prudhomme's 7.76/197. |

Notes: Tom started the year with a big win on January 31 at the AHRA Winternats, winning TF. He qualified ninth with a 7.72 and ran a first-round 7.78/193.96 over Chris Karamesines. In the second round, he ran 7.87/193.12 over James Warren's wheelstanding Chevy-powered car. In the semifinal, a 7.76/196.92 beat Danny Ongais. In the final, he ran Dean Turk who ran a quicker 7.68/198.92, but lost to Hoover's 7.75/194.38. At the NHRA Springnationals, he qualified fourth with a 7.69/196.06, but failed to make it into the finals. Hoover was at Cordova on August 29 for the World Series of Drag Racing event. He reached the finals against Fred Welchman but his 8.18/187.50 finished runner-up to the "Telstar's" 7.90/199. |

Notes: Ray qualified #15 at Bristol for the NHRA Springnationals with an 8.01/15.94. He improved to 7.92/192.70 in the opening round, but it wasn't enough to beat Don Westerdale's 7.60/168 in the "Ramchargers" car. We need to confirm that this is Sunday's action. The class run-off on Saturday had different results.; Photo: "Drag Racing Hero's: Dragsters" website - MB |

Notes: At NHRA Bristol, Jimmy Nix entered two cars, the Carroll Brothers & Oxman car and his own blown Chevy dragster! He was low qualifier at 7.65/192.70 in the Carroll Bros. machine and went 7.80/202.84 in the Chevy. He beat Danny Ongais in Round one with the Carroll Bros. machine at 7.56/195.22, but crossed the centerline and lost with the Chevy (avoiding what could have been a very interesting eventual matchup)! He beat Marvin Schwartz in round two, but lost a close one to Tom Hoover in the semis. |

Notes: Jim Brissette car listed at 7.57/205 best in Herbert Cams ad. Confirm that it was this car and driver. | Bill started the year driving for Jim Brissette and on January 1 the team was at Riverside for the KFWB Drag Festival where Bill qualified in the eight-car field with a 7.90/199.54. Unfortunately, in the first round, he fouled away a 7.92/194.38 against Bobby Tapia. On January 3, they were at Fontana for the UDRA race, but this time Bill lost fire in the first round. Pomona held an eight-car show on January 17 and Alexander qualified with a 7.99/200.44, but he was having clutch issues and withdrew from competition. A whopping 31 cars showed up to qualify for eight positions at Lions on January 30. Bill ran 7.71/186.32 to qualify #2. He stayed strong in eliminations, running 7.88/197.80 in the first round, and 8.01/189.06 in the semifinals when Zane Schubert fouled, but in the final, his off pace 8.42/182.18 finished runner-up to Ed Pink's "Old Master" driven by Mike Snively at 8.21. Both cars smoked the tires in the final. Bill ran a best of 8.02/200.00 in attempting to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but he just missed making the show. He got a break when Ron Rivero had hurt his motor in qualifying and Alexander replaced him in the field. He almost went all the way. Bill got to the final when every car he raced fouled against him. In the first two rounds, it was first Tom McEwen and then Don Garlits who both saw red, and then in the semifinals, Connie Kalitta also fouled out against him. In the final, he ran 7.92/198.22, but lost to Don Prudhomme's 7.76/201 in the "Hawaiian." |

Notes: Nick started the season at Riverside Raceway on January 1 for the KFWB Festival race. He failed to qualify for the eight-car field, but the track set up another eight-car field for the non-qualifiers. Marshall's 8.10/193.94 qualified low for that group. He won his first-round race with an 8.12/198.66 when his opponent, Ron Hampshire, lost fire. He lost in the following round. The next day, he was at Fontana for a sixteen-car show. In the first round, his 7.84/195.22 defeated Wayne King's 8.15/191. But in round two, a 7.90/191.08 fell to Herb Ries' 7.78/196. He was back in Fontana on January 17 for an eight-car show. He beat Jeep Hampshire in the final for the victory. On January 31, Fontana held yet another race. Unfortunately, Nick's 7.94/190.66 in the opening round lost to Bill Leavitt's 7.98/192. Another win came at Fontana on February 14. He had qualified #4 for the sixteen-car field with a 7.80. He won his first-round race with an easy 8.24/190.26. In round two, his 7.83/191.08 beat Bobby Vodnick's 8.09/191. He had another easy pass in the semi-final when his opponent Maynard Rupp failed to fire. He faced Mike Sorokin in the final, the "Surfers" car broke, and Nick's 9.10/118.73 won. In the first week of March, he competed at the big Bakersfield March Meet. A 7.91/195.64 qualified #28 in the 64-car field. Marshall was at Sanford, Maine, on August 22 for a best-of-three match against Dick Roberts in Clyde McKaba's car. Nick came out for a warm-up pass to break in a new set of Goodyears. The car got out of shape, and he took out the lights. There was no damage to the car. In the first round of the match, Dick got a great hole shot, and his 7.85 beat Marshall, who once again had handling problems. After the run, it was discovered that they had a cracked cylinder wall. Another engine was installed, and Nick ran the track's first 200 mph run with a 7.91/200.44. Marshall won Top Fuel at San Fernando on November 7. He also set Low ET and Top Speed at 7.86/206.88.; Photo: "Drag Racing Hero's: Dragsters" website - MB |

Notes: John was at Irwindale on December 18 for its Grand Opener. It was a sixteen-car field, and in the first round, his 7.92/175.43 advanced when Mike Snively fouled. In the second round, both he and Roy Thode ran 7.93 (Harbert at 190.26), but John got the win light. Dave Beebe fouled against him in the semi-final, and John ran 7.98/173.03. He faced John Mulligan in the final, and Mulligan's 7.83/180 picked up the win over John's 8.22/192.70 runner-up effort. Herbert Cams ad for 1965 indicates 7.58/204 for "Harbert." |

Notes: Likely Haase's greatest accomplishment this year was in June, taking Top Fuel Eliminator at the second Annual Hot Rod Magazine Championship at Riverside. Though qualifying in the middle of a 32-car field, Haase outlasted the likes of Yeakel Plymouth (McEwen), The Surfers (Sororkin), the Hawaiian (Prudhomme), the Bounty Hunter and Gotelli-Miliani. The final found him paired against the highly favored James Warren in the Warren-Crow car. Both cars encountered problems on the trophy run, but it was Haase who crossed the finish first. - RT | Ran a 7.75 at Indy US Nationals 9/65. |
