Notes: Tex Randall and Ray Gramlich built the 392 Hemi and the chassis for his dragster. The wheelbase was 136 inches. The 1,000 hp engine used 5.5:1 M/T pistons and an Isky cam. An Edelbrock manifold held an Isky prepared GMC 6/71 blower. Isky also supplied the blower drive. A Hilborn four-port injection unit topped off the motor. Power was put to the ground by an Olds rear with 3.08 gears. It took just 3 1/2 weeks to build at just over $8,000. Tex was at York U.S.30 on May 29 for the UDRA race. He set Low ET and Top Speed in the opening round with an 8.21/190 that beat Joe Jacono. In the semifinal, he lost to a holeshot by Bub Reese. Tex crashed at Aquasco with fatal injuries in June 1965 when the front wheel came off at speed. Photo available at http://www.wediditforlove.com |

Notes: Bob was driving the "A&W" car at Lions on March 27 for a sixteen car show. He fouled against Danny Ongais in the first round. He was back at Lions on April 17. He qualified #8 for the sixteen-car field with an 8.03/189.46. He singled in the opening round, and in the second, his off-pace 8.33/186.32 lost to Don Prudhomme's 7.80/198. The following day he was at San Fernando, where he qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field with an 8.20. But he had hurt some parts doing it, and he could not run in eliminations. They debuted a new car in July 1965. |

Notes: On January 2, Herb was at Fontana for the two-day UDRA race being held there. It was a sixteen-car show, and Ries' qualified #1 with a 7.77. He ran even better in the first round, when his 7.75/195.64 beat Mike Sorokin's 7.80/191 in the "Surfers" car. He stayed consistent in round two, running 7.78/196.50 to beat Nick Marshall's 7.90/191. Unfortunately, in the semifinals, he got out of shape and shut off against Tom McEwen. |
