Notes: Not sure if Carbone was a co-owner. | On June 4, Steve was driving this car at an eight-car show at Lions. He set Low ET of the meet in qualifying #1 with a 7.41/202.24. A first-round 7.51/189.46 beat Dwight Salisbury, but a wheelstand in the semifinals slowed him to 8.13/154.63 that lost to Jack Ewell's 7.57/212. Carbone was runner-up to Danny Ongais at an eight-car show at Carlsbad on June 10. His final round 7.78/208.80 lost to Ongais' 7.58/209. The next day (June 11), he was back at Lions for another eight-car show. He qualified #2 with a 7.54/212.26 (Top Speed), and then went on to win by first getting around a non-firing John Martin in round one, with a 7.65/211.76 and then beating Ron Rivero in the semifinals. Steve took the victory in the final with a 7.70/182.92 when Dave Beebe fouled against him. At the HRM Championships at Riverside, a 7.62/205.46 qualified #13 in the 32 car field. He failed to make it to the finals. Steve ran really well at an eight-car show at Irwindale on June 25. He qualified #1 with a 7.56 and set a new track speed record at 215.30 in the first round. His ET wasn't too bad either as he tied the track record at 7.45. Unfortunately, in winning his first-round race, he blew his engine and opponent Gary Southern, in the "Wilton and Doss" car got back in on the break rule. On July 9, he was back at Irwindale for another eight-car show. Once again he won his first-round race with a 7.66/199.54 over Ron Hampshire, but this time he lost a blower so Hampshire returned via the break rule. |

Notes: On May 8, Clark was at Carlsbad for a Jackpot Pro Circuit race, but he failed to qualify. Hank qualified #16 at the HRM Championships at Riverside on June 19 with a 7.66/206.88. He beat Dwight Salisbury in the first round, and a 7.50/209.30 beat Paul Sutherland's quicker 7.46/213 in round two. Unfortunately, Tom McEwen's 7.50/192 dropped him in the third round. Clark qualified for an eight-car show at Lions on June 25 and ran a first-round 7.61 (Low ET) at 181.08 over John Martin, but he lost to Kenny Safford in the semifinals with an off pace 7.88/150.25. |

Notes: Fred Rowsey bought the Banzai car (and name I assume)from Eddie Bauman in 66 . He and George Cox ran it for a while before Fred bought a new never run Woody chassis from Grantham in Arizona whose first name escapes me. Anyway Fred called it Banzai II for 67 , bought a couple complete KB’s and hired John Wilson to tune and run the car. Which is about the time I got hired by John at GCP the fuel company Fred bought from Neil who owned the Texas Shark car. Later that summer Fred and John had a disagreement and Split ways, putting George Cox back in the seat and as the tuner. Bob Gibson |
