Notes: Walt was at New York National on August 6 for the AHRA Summernationals. It was a sixteen-car field, and after running an easy first-round race, he picked up to 7.03/218.96 to beat Bernie Schacker's 7.44/215 in round two. He ran an easy solo in the semifinal when Art Malone failed to show. His final-round opponent was Larry Bucher, but the race never came off as Kinsley blew a rear end on the starting line. |

Notes: Bockla was at Rocky Mountain Dragways for its Opener on April 2. It was an eight-car field, and in the opening round, his 7.59/205.42 beat Rick Hern. In the semifinal, he advanced with a 7.64/206.88. He faced Ernie Spickler in the final, and Alan pushed the tree too hard and fouled away a 7.76/205.46 while Ernie won with a 7.72/196. Alan was a formidable competitor in the Denver area. On July 2, he was at Castle Rock for the High Altitude Nationals. He qualified #2 in the sixteen-car field while setting Top Speed at 216.34. Bockla advanced easily in the first round when John Abbott fouled in the "Kaiser Brothers" car, and in round two, his 7.61/211.76 beat Bennie Osborn's 7.68/198. Unfortunately, a 7.59/215.30 lost to eventual winner Pete Robinson's 7.34/205 in the semifinals. He qualified #7 at the NHRA World Finals in Tulsa at 7.166/216.86 but lost in the first round to Larry Hendrickson, 8.07/147 to 8.442/152.28. That was his only NHRA national event of the year. The July 28 issue of National Dragster states that he ran a Woody Gilmore chassis. |

Notes: On October 7 at OCIR for a sixteen-car fueler show, Dave qualified second with a 7.09/216. In the first round, a 7.24/216.86 beat Bob Hightower (7.90/170.77). A second round 6.99/215.82 beat John Mitchell (7.18/215.82), and in the semis he had to face John Mitchell again due to the break rule. Once again he beat him, this time with a 7.16/214.26 to John's 7.46/211.46. In the final against John Edmunds, Beebe ran an off pace 8.12/149.75 to lose to Edmunds' 7.12/220.04. |

Notes: Albert Waits and Tom Killeen had the only Top Fuel dragster within 300 miles of New Orleans. The team had a tough time securing a driver until they got Dave Chenevert behind the wheel. The kid could drive as his first pass was 7.25/215. Before this ride, Dave had been driving C.J. Kearney's gas dragster. The Shreve Automotive car used a 165" Don Long chassis and weighed 1,280 lbs. The engine was a 392 Hemi using parts from Venolia, M/T, Delta, Donovan, Enderle, and Engle. | Confirmed 7.019/210.76 at Indy Nationals 9/67. Ran 7.272/216.86 at NHRA World Finals at Tulsa. |

Notes: Qualified at Pomona Winters 67 at 7.378/210.76 (qualifying list confirms.) |Glenn had the weirdest race on February 12 at Irwindale. He qualified #2 in the eight-car field with a 7.21/216.86 and then lost in the first round, to James Warren's 7.23/107 with a 7.28/215.82. But Warren lost a motor so Gerry got back in on the "break rule." In the semifinals, he went into a series of wheelstands and lost to Jack Williams' 7.48/204. Then Jack's car broke and was unable to run in the final so once again Glenn was reinstated. There he faced Mike Snively in Roland Leong's "Hawaiian." Glenn was up to the task, running a 7.10/205.00 to beat Snively's 7.32/172 for the victory. He won at Irwindale again on April 8 for another eight-car event. This time he had to work for it. A 7.44/184.80 beat the Condit Brothers and Clark, while in the semifinals his 7.49 at 200 flat topped the "Tiki." In the final he was up against Dave Beebe in the "Beebe Brothers" car. Gerry got the win with a 7.55/204.54 beating Beebe's 7.88/190. |

Notes: Gary qualified #11 at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals with a 7.81. Another 7.81 at 205 beat Dave Babler's 7.82/191, but the car broke against Hank Westmoreland in the second round. He qualified for 1967 NHRA Winternationals at 7.480/215.82. The qualifying list confirms the entry name. In the first round, his 7.816/205 lost to Gerry Glenn's 7.37/211. That was the team's only NHRA national event this year. |

Notes: Ongais was at Irwindale on January 8 for an eight-car show. He qualified #3 at 7.38/205.94. In the opening round of competition, his 7.43/207.36 beat Tommy Allen but another 7.43 at 211.26 lost to Bob Muravez's 7.44/200. At the AHRA Winternationals, over 100 cars attempted to qualify for the 32 car field. Ongais' 7.75 qualified #7. He was late off the line in the first round, and his 7.63/202.70 lost to "Sneaky Pete" Robinson's 7.81/181. Shortly after that, he went back to Irwindale for another eight-car show. Unfortunately, the car broke in the first round, against Jeep Hampshire. Then Danny went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. A 7.34/207.84 qualified #6 in the 32 car field, and in round one, his 7.42/197.36 defeated Jimmy Nix's 7.52/205. He ran his best time of the weekend, a 7.27 at 211.26 in beating Hank Clark's 7.41/209 in round two. Ongais got a "freebie" in the third round when Jim Bollinger shut off on the line, and Danny advanced with a 10.38/85.30. He and Gene Goleman had a really close race in the semifinals that saw both drivers run 7.29 (Ongais at 210.76), but Goleman got the win. A week later (February 12), he was back at Irwindale. His 7.12/214.78 qualified #1, but he fouled against Mie Snively, who was driving the "Hawaiian" in the first round. He did not compete at the Bakersfield March Meet that was at that time held on February 19. Instead, he chose to go to Las Vegas for the Stardust National Open held on the same weekend. It was a sixteen-car field, and in round one, he soloed as Don Cook failed to show. He lost to Mike Sorokin in the second round, who was driving the second of the two "Hawaiian" cars. On March 15, Carlsbad held an eight-car show that had 23 cars attempt to qualify. Danny qualified #6 with a big speed of 215.30. A 7.21/201.34 beat Muravez's 7.37 in the opening round. But the car broke on the run, and he could not return for the semifinal. Danny ran a best of 7.247/208.80 at NHRA Indy. | Tom "Surfer" Jobe retired from H. O.W., fabricated modern-day racing bikes into his 70s. - Joe Moore |

Notes: Tom blew up two blowers trying unsuccessfully to qualify at the NHRA Winternats, ending as the 6th alternate (times not reported). The debris from the blower actually knocked the visor off his helmet. He suffered some burns and was considering about retiring from driving. For the Bakersfield Meet, he had Doc Halladay drive the car. On April 9, Tom was at Minnesota Dragway to make some test runs with his dragster. The track was cold, and he smoked the tires on all three of his runs, with the best being 8.01/214.78. At the NHRA Springnats, he qualified #9 at 7.255/205.46 but fouled away a 7.188/184.42 in the first round. A big win at the Canadian Nationals over John Weibe was followed by another victory at the third NHRA Division Five race held at Minneapolis (Minnesota Dragways) on July 16. It was an eight-car field, and in round one, he set Low ET with his 7.43/209.30 beating Bill Schifsky's 8.24/196. He continued to run strong in the semifinals with his 7.45/215.30 defeating Earl Binns' 7.77/200. A final round 7.49/190.26 got the win over Jerry Boldenow's 8.28/210. He got another win over an eight-car field at Minnesota Dragways on August 20. Hoover got to solo in the opening round when Vern Anderson's car failed to fire. Tom advanced with a 7.38/209.30. He also got the "odd-lot" solo in the semifinal and eased it to an 8.37/134.28. The track record going into this race was a 7.36 held by "Sneaky Pete" Robinson. Tom reset that record to 7.30 (at 200) while getting the victory in the final. At Indy, for the NHRA US Nationals, Tom's 7.331/210.28 qualified on the "bump" for the 32 car field. In the opening round of eliminations, his 7.607/202.24 lost to Tommy Ivo's 7.09/209. On October 1, Hoover was in Minneapolis for the NHRA Division Five final. Doc Halladay cut a good light in the first round, and his 7.40 beat Hoover's 7.34. He was trying so hard to catch Halladay that he ran 220.58. for Top Speed. He ran a 7.285/196.08 qualifier at the World Finals at Tulsa. Tom got the round one holeshot win at 7.367/212.26 over fellow Minnesotan Jerry Boldenow's 7.283/204.54. Steve Carbone ended Tom's day in round two, 7.09/209 to 7.280/208.80. |

Notes: Stark ran a best of 7.38 while winning over a sixteen-car field on Fremont on February 26. He was one of 70 drivers trying to qualify at Bakersfield's 32 car show on February 19. His 7.35 qualified #22, but in round one, the car got out of shape, and he lost to Bub Reese, who was driving for Jim and Allison Lee. Claude was at Lions on May 13 for an eight-car show. He qualified #2 with a 7.48, but it was quite a way behind pole-sitter Tommy Allen's 7.26. In the first round, Stark ran 7.50/210.76 to beat Lins and Peton. In the semifinal. A 7.49/215.30 took out Ron Hampshire. He faced low qualifier Allen in the final. Tommy had problems on his run, and Stark took the victory with a 7.64/208.32. |

Notes: Qualified at Pomona Winters 67 at 7.398/215.30. We formerly showed those times for Stan in 1968 in this car. Assuming we just had the year wrong. Blanking best times for 1968 and transferring them to this 1967 entry. We need to confirm best 1968 times. |

Notes: AKA Time Machine. Wilson was at Deland early in the season for the NASCAR Winternationals. Unfortunately, he lost to Chuck Kurzawa, who drove the "Probe" in the first round. Scott was the third alternate at the NHRA Springnationals in Bristol at 7.344/192.70 and the second alternate at NHRA Indy at 7.347/205.00. On November 26 at the Florida State Championships at Miami Dragway, Scott's first-round 7.33/208.32 lost to Dave Chenevert (7.27/210.28).; Photo: George Klass Collection - MB |

Notes: Ken Safford took over driving after Denny Miliani was killed at Half Moon Bay. | Ken qualified at Pomona Winters 1967 at 7.458/208.80. Unfortunately, a first-round 7.55/205.94 lost to John Edmunds' 7.42/212. The qualifying list confirms it was in this car. That was the team's last NHRA national event of 1967. Ken was at Half Moon Bay on April 16 for a best-of-three-match race against Mike Snively driving the "Hawaiian.” Mike won the first race, but in losing, Safford reset the track speed record to 214.78. He also lost the second race and the match when his quicker 7.27/212.76 lost to Snively's 7.42/193. He was at Irwindale on April 29 for an eight-car show. A first-round 7.55/208.80 beat Steve Carbone's 7.75/198 in the "Atlas Oil Tool" car, and in the semifinals, Ken's 7.46/201.76 beat Dave Beebe's 7.64/206. This put him into the final against John Edmunds. The two had a good close race, with Safford winning with a 7.59/209.30 over Edmunds runner-up 7.60/219. The very next day, these two would meet again in the final at another eight-car show at Fresno with the same results. Safford reset the track record to 7.10. On May 13, he was at Irwindale for an eight-car show. He won his first-round match with a 7.27/205.46, but in the semifinals, his 7.34/211.26 lost to eventual winner Mike Sorokin's 7.14/205. |

Notes: Downey was at Beeline Dragway at the end of January for the AHRA Winternationals. Over 100 cars were attempting to qualify for the 32 car field and his 7.79 qualified #9. He beat Jack Ewell in the opening round, and Ron Rivero fouled against him in round two. In round three, his 7.72/200.44 defeated Hank Westmoreland. Don Cook then fouled against him in the semifinal, and Bob found himself going up against low qualifier Connie Kalitta in the final. The big overhead cam Ford engine ran much quicker than the "Howard Cam" car during eliminations, and it stayed that way in the final where Downey's 8.0/196.50 finished runner-up to Kalitta's 7.63/196. At Pomona, a 7.490/214.78 qualified #29. His 7.608/209.30 in round one lost to Jerry Ruth's 7.36/213. He also was at Riverside for the HRM Championships, where his 7.45/213.28 in the first round lost to Jimmy Nix's 7.27/212. |
