Notes: The AWB '65 match bash Mustang (and other rides) were better known, but this car existed, ran injected, also ran blown. Not a round-tube chassis car. May have been an earlier car with an updated body. - DD

Notes: My understanding is this car was actually powered by a 427 Chevrolet. Lee Walker typically drove this, though the ET posted here is credited to James Austin. Initially ran injected in 67 & 68, newly supercharged for 1969. Car was sold to Stan Gill of Jacksonville, FL, who was selling the car mid, 1972. - Dennis Doubleday

Notes: As far as I know, this car always ran a 427 Chevrolet, not a Hemi. Confusing owner-driver situation on this one. I have Pete Bagnard and Engle as owners. Drivers 'listed' included Pete Bagnard, Bill Bradford, Bob Smith, Jim McEvoy and Jess Tyree. Time entered here credited to Pete Bagnard, but no way of actually knowing who was driving. In a for sale ad late in 1969, car was credited with running 7.80s at 185-190 mph. This ad was run prior to a race at Irwindale late in 1969. At this race, the car blew the blower and the roof off, ran a good 7.57-191.08, Bagnard listed as driver. - Dennis Doubleday

Notes: An ad for a funny car meet at OCIR, late in 1969, credits the car with a 191 mph run. This car started out as Dick Tutino's "Alan Green Chevrolet" Camaro in 1967. After he rolled it at Arlington, Bedell bought the car, ran it in 1968 thru early 1970. The car was then sold to Gary Matranga, who ran the car as the "Day Go Express" thru most of '70 into early '71. Believe this is the car that Bob Sanguino (another No-Cal racer) ran in '71-'72 as a Bracket car. - DD

Notes: Blown alky here. Car also ran fuel. Car was sold in 1967 to Ed Carter and Bob Little, who also ran the car in 1968, both as the "Chevy II Heavy" and the "Color Kart." Hot on the heels of Jack Chrisman building the "Chrisman's Comet," several racers built car to challenge the big Mercury. Steve Bovan's "Blair's Chevy II" was one of the first to hit the track. Bovan had raced a Mopar AA/Modified Production car, but went with the lightweight Chevy II for the funny car. Bovan gutted the factory built car to come up with this "Match Bash" monster. Chevrolet's new big block 396 engine powered the machine. Steve sold the Chevy to Ed Carter from NorCal in 1967. Carter dubbed it the Chevy II Much and ran mostly at Fremont. The car's performance didn't change much. Bovan built the engine to run on 100% alcohol. Steve ran many match races with the car and ran CC/FD in NHRA competition. The Chevy used to lay down a smoke bank on a run. Bovan ran the "Blair's Speed Shop 396" in '65 and '66 with a 9.29-160 best. (Courtesy Dennis Doubleday. Bill Duke, and James Ibusuki)

Notes: Late hemi, TorqueFlite combo. This car, with an early hemi, was originally built and raced by Brad Anderson of Colorado. A feature on the Dart in the 11-70 issue of Rodder & Super/Stock said Bush sometimes ran fuel so was able to race as a Gasser or fuel funny car. - RT | Yes, this is true. Here's a shot of him racing Kalitta at Sears Point. These stat upgrades are from that race, late in 1969. - DD

Notes: Glass front end, doors, deck lid. Lots of history. Injected fuel, A&A Engineering fiberglass body-113"-114" Bill Flynn adjustable wheelbase chassis. Car was run by Flynn in 1967, then Al Hanna drove it for him in '67, then Hanna bought it, called it "Phantom." Hanna ran the car into 1968, when he sold it to George Whalen, who ran it as the "Rebel Cuda" into 1970. Car, more or less, still exists. February 1967 Drag Racing magazine says car went 8.70-160 in 1966. Confirmed 8.80 at Englishtown (9/23/66 Drag News) and 156.52 at Connecticut (11/04/66 Drag Times). This car is currently being restored (2011).
