Notes: Time from Drag Stat 1969. Dennis Morton didn't drive the Mel Perry Super Hugger. Easy to see the confusion, as he did run his own Camaro funny car called "The Hugger." - Dennis Doubleday |

Notes: Hi Guys. I'm not questioning this drivers name, because he could be another driver that I've never heard of, but could it be a mistake for Jim O'Connor, who did drive for Mr. Norm's in 1965? - DD | Also the car ID as '64 Dodge Polara makes zero sense. - RT |

Notes: Did Peggy also race a Vega? This was a nice looking New Visions Corvette. This is a BB/FC owned by Rick Pierce. It was crashed and rebuilt and this was the new paint job. I was lucky enough to get to drive the car the first three passes after the rebuild and before paint. The car was raced for a while and then sold to Bucky Austin. The car was a show winner taking a best paint award and others. The paint was done by Skidders and Roger Younger. Larry Parenteau |

Notes: Fred Goeske came to fame as the second owner of the B&M Plymouth Dealers Barracuda in late 1966. Goeske raced the heavy stock rear-engine car until the end of 1967. Tom McEwen ran this car in 1965 and early 1966. February 17/1967 (National Dragster) says this car ran '8.50s in 1966', but confirmed 8.71 at Las Vegas (per 10/14/66 National Dragster). Notes: Ken McLellan was one of best racers in Texas with the series of McLellan Bros. Fords. The Friona, Texas, based team rose to fame in this unusual Falcon. The team stuffed a 427 Ford Cammer into the altered wheelbased car. The McLellan Brothers usually ran the car on carbs and gas in C, XS, but the A/XS shown here indicates that they may have run more than gas and carbs. The little Falcon won many races until it was replaced with a new S/S Mustang. The McLellan Bros. never returned to the funny car wars, but continued racing national event winning Super Stockers. This photo is of the 1968 version. Started season (1966) with a Ford wedge before switching to the SOHC. Car was run 1966/68. Notes: Tommy McNeely's "Sad Sack" Falcon was remembered by many sixties drag racing fans for its wild wheelstanding antics as well as its performance. The young McNeely had previously raced 409 Chevrolets with Dickie Harrell before switching to a Ford. The '65 Falcon was built by Hubert Platt in a basement and had to put together outside once it was finished. The car debuted at Irwindale with Platt driving, then McNeely took over the driving. Tommy raced mostly in match bash match races throughout 1966. McNeely was known to put on a wheelstanding show when the car was ailing. But the car usually ran well, hitting the numbers shown. Notes: Fuel injected. These times are on gas. Phil Bonner was one of the first funny car superstars with the match bash "Daddy Warbucks" Falcon. The Holman & Moody prepared 1964 Falcon was built as a gas powered A/FX, but "Daddy Warbucks" transformed quickly. By the end of 1965, Bonner had aded injectors and nitro to the 427 SOHC that Don Martin tuned. The "Daddy Warbucks" car ran tens in 1964. by the time the car retired it ran 8.94 at 155.70 in early 1966. Bonner won the NASCAR Winternationals in the Frank Vega sponsored Falcon. The Match Race Madness section of the June 1966 Super Stock magazine has Bonner losing to Malcolm Durham at Capitol Raceway after breaking in the first round. The next month's issue had Bonner beating Durham three straight at Cecil County. Phil was a very popular match racer with this wheelstanding match bash funny car. Notes: The 7.561 at Lions I believe was actually run the first week of 1970. This car started out as Dick Tutino's "Alan Green Chevrolet" Camaro in 1967. After he rolled it at Arlington, Bedell bought the car, ran it in 1968 through early 1970. The car was then sold to Gary Matranga, who ran the car as the "Day Go express" through most of '70 into early '71. Believe this is the car that Bob Sanguino (another No-Cal racer) ran in '71-'72 as a Bracket car. - DD |
