Notes: Neal ran this 1958 Corvette from 1968 to 1973. It was the second Corvette he ran as The Red Baron. The car first ran as a CM/SP in 1968 and was stripped down to run as a C/A in 1969 with a 327. In 1972 a 427 was installed and the Baron finished in 4th place in the Maple Grove points race. Neal was also voted fan favorite competition driver and mechanic. After modifications for 1973 the car crashed at Maple Grove on 4/29/73. |

Notes: Neal purchased his new 1961 Corvette and started his drag racing career at Vargo Dragway near Perkasie, Pa. from 1961 to 1965. He won his class over 25 times and street eliminator over 12 times. After modifications for 1966 The Red Baron with a 350ci. Ran as a CM/SP at Kel Reca, a 1/8 mile track near Hometown, Pa. Neal won his class, street eliminator, top time and speed there many times in 1966 and 1967. This was the first Corvette Neal ran as The Red Baron. He still owns the car and it has a 427 big block in it. Vargo Dragway reunion organizers chose the 61 Vette to be the poster car for the 2017 show. Neal installed new lettering on the Baron for the show and it was displayed on the starting line. |
