Notes: Dale started driving for Mike at Indy, where he ran 6.315/230.76 to qualify #10. IN round one, he lost to Don Prudhomme, 6.16/213 to 6.380/226.70. Dale was the first alternate at NHRA Ontario at 6.388/222.77. Formerly listed 6.295 for this car. Did Dale run that in IHRA competition? Removing until we get confirmation. |

Notes: The Aurora model company based a 1/16 scale kit around this car. The extremely detailed model was well received by hardcore builders, but was a poor seller. These kits are sought after collectors items 35 years later. The car was run on nitro a few times before being converted to alky and Richie Sullivan becoming the driver. |

Notes: Mike Sopko had a few photos of this car with the body up, clearly an early-model hemi. - Tim Simplot | Car was driven at times by Ken Thornburg or Chuck Finders. David Paine and Tom West have photos of a ‘73 Duster With “Nick Varouh” lettered on the side (not the traditionally remembered 'Varough' – JM). (Confirmed by Ancestry.com on 4/21/18 - BP) |

Notes: Entry based on observed original color slide from Capitol Raceway. Year is an estimate, but close. Would seem to be an East Coast car. Very pretty car, predominantly warm red with multiple panels of white, orange and yellow. "El Diablo" in large ornamental script on doors. "Weed" or "Wood Unlimited" on rear flank. The comp number 1054 is already allocated to other cars (with Jim Wigglesworth as driver), but is clearly indicated in the photo this entry is based on. - RT |
