Notes: rnrnHenry's first NHRA national event with the M/T car was the Springnationals in Dallas, where he ran 6.929/211.26 for the #6 spot. He won round one with a 6.98/206.42 when Mat Higgenbotham crossed the centerline. Henry defeated Richard Tharp in round two, 6.84/214.29 to 6.94/206.42. In round three, he lost a close one to Kelly Brown, 6.81/218.97 to 6.86/213.27. At Indy, he was the number one qualifier at 6.541/226.70, which stood as the Low ET and Top Speed of the meet. In round one, Henry won at 7.03/209.30 when Shirley Muldowney smoked the tires. He took a 10.81 single in round two when Don Schumacher could not start on time. In round three, M/T teammate Dale Pulde took a 6.86/205.94 to 7.26/143.43 win. That was Henry's last NHRA national event of the year. | In 1971, Henry Harrison was the number one qualifier, set low elapsed time and Top Speed at the US Nationals in one of Mickey Thompson's cars. His 6.541 was the quickest run to date in a Funny Car and his 226.70 miles per hour blast was simply unheard of. - Bob Frey | The Setzer/Kelly Brown Vega went 227.27 earlier that year; it was even a cover story in HRM. - Joe Moore |
