Notes: 62 Plymouth Back-65 Dodge I am the original owner of the Half Breed. I purchased the car in 1962 from McNeil-Stanley Chrysler Plymouth on Atlantic Blvd in East Los Angeles. My father "Pete" Everett was the Service Manager at the time and I worked the Lube Rack and new car get ready while attending college. It was a 1962 White Sport Fury Plymouth with the 410hp Max Wedge Package. In stock condition with the headers open (the cast iron headers were replaced with a set of Doug's Headers - the car was used to make the first set of Doug's headers for the Max Wedge engine) and 10 inch slicks, the car ran 13.06/106.91 at Lions Drag Strip in Long Beach, Ca. Careful inspection of the photo will show that the rear wheel openings were enlarged and recontoured to match the original look. Over the course of the next 2 years, a CT Stroker Crank was installed, increasing the displacement to 468ci and a special fabbed aluminum secondary manifold was added to the top of the cross ram manifold to accommodate a 3rd Carter 4 barrel carburetor. I have all of the old time slips and pictures and will dig them out and submit the additional info for your inspection. In 1965 I was drafted and went to Vietnam for 2 years. Leroy Hales and I went to Montebello High together and he worked at my dad's garage and gas station while attending SC College. He took over driving the car when I left. While I was gone, the engine broke and was replaced with a Keith Black Hemi, the front end was replaced with a lightweight Dodge Aluminum Front End and the roll bar was added with the top removed. This is the car seen in the pictures. I still have many of the parts from the original car (Heads, etc.) and a few years ago I purchased another white 1962 Plymouth Fury. I am slowly rebuilding it as a close clone of my original Plymouth. My dad, "Pete" passed away in May 2007. - Bill Everett |
