Notes: Clark was at DeSoto on April 11 for the second NHRA Division Two race. Only five cars showed, so he ran an easy 8.74 to qualify #3. He picked it up by more than a second in the first round, but his 7.82/198.60 was still no match for Larry Fullerton's 6.55/220 in the "Trojan Horse."

Notes: Jim Barillaro built the Torino personally in 1969 with help from Ford and John Healey of Tasca Ford. Limited finances kept the car from being a serious contender, but it was a consistent 7-second car in 1969 and 1970. Ran 7.99 in Connecticut. Jim debuted the car in Connecticut on September 7, but he parked it due to traction problems, and Kosty Ivanof filled in for him.

Notes: Dale started his NHRA national event season at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He was having all kinds of problems in qualifying and, at one point, field-stripped the car down to the bare chassis in the Gainesville Hilton Hotel parking lot. Even after all that, he could only run a 7.380 best (speed unknown), far from the 6.03 "bump." He went to Baton Rouge, where he was the third alternate for the NHRA Cajun Nationals with a 10.98 (speed unknown) shutoff pass. He was at Columbus on June 10 for the NHRA Springnationals. Unfortunately, his 6.194/207.37 (fourth alternate) failed to crack the 6.00 "bump." Shortly after that (June 24), he was at Maple Grove for the Super Stock Nationals. It was an eight-car show, and his 6.12/231.95 qualified #6. He lost to eventual winner Dale Pulde in the first round. He qualified #14 at the NHRA Grandnationals at 6.400/180.36 but lost to Frank Hawley in round one when he fell off to a 7.799/111.38. The following week (July 8), he was in Milan for the IHRA Northern Nationals. Dale's 6.11/225 qualified #11, and in the first round, he ran a career-best (to this point) 6.02 at 236. The problem was that Don Prudhomme was running 5.82/250 in the other lane. Dale qualified #15 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals with a new personal best, a 5.980/233.76. In the first round, he lost to Tim Grose, 5.941/243.90 to 8.315/113.92. That was Dale's last NHRA national event of the year.

Notes: Dale started his national event season at Gainesville, where his 6.350/214.08 was the fifth alternate. He was the third alternate at Atlanta at 6.692/193.71. Those were Dale's only two NHRA national events. He went to Rockingham in May for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships, and the car caught fire during a 6.22 run. His fire extinguishers failed, and the car burnt to the ground.

Notes: Dale was one of twenty-four Funny Car drivers who arrived at Englishtown attempting to qualify for the NHRA Summernationals sixteen car field. Unfortunately, he was the slowest of the twenty-four, and his 7.882/170.13 was the eighth alternate. That was Dale's only NHRA national event this year. We formerly listed 5.823/248.61 times for Dale this year, but I think those were run at Sanair 1992 and Bristol 1984. We need to validate that and return those times to this year if they were run at an IHRA event or match race.

Notes: Dale ran two NHRA events in 1988. He was the fifth alternate at Englishtown at 7.724/114.28. Dale was at Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals, qualifying 15th at 6.798/192.26. That was ahead of Scott Kalitta and three big names who did not qualify: DA Santucci, Bruce Larson, and Frank Kramberger. Notes: Dale failed to qualify at the IHRA Winternationals, with his best run being a 6.42. He didn't attempt to qualify at any NHRA events until the Grandnationals, where his 5.823/232.01 qualified #13. Dale lost to Mark Oswald in the first round when he crossed the center line. He attempted to qualify at the next NHRA race, the Summernationals, but he was the first alternate with a 6.090/204.63 best. He also landed outside the field at the Keystone Nats, with a third alternate best of 6.036/220.31. Photo from the 1992 IHRA Winter Nationals.

Notes: Photo from Columbus 1993. Ran this 5.11 at Winternats - beating John Force - except he hit the top end timing cones, negating the time & losing the race. | Whit qualified #12 with a 5.26/285.08 at the NHRA Winternationals, and as mentioned above, defeated Force with a career-best 5.11, but was disqualified for crossing the centerline while hitting the cones. At the second NHRA race of the season, the Arizona Nationals, Whit qualified #8 with a 5.26/276.83. He lost to Kenji Okazaki's 5.30/268 in the first round, when he lost a motor and the car caught fire. Bazemore brought the car to a stop and he was OK. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, only 17 cars showed so qualifying was relatively easy. Whit qualified on the "bump" with a 9.97/81.54. Unfortunately, that meant that he had to run low qualifier John Force in round one. Whit ran a strong 5.24/261.32, but lost to Force's 5.18/282. Gainesville was the fourth stop on the NHRA schedule and Whit qualified #12 with a 5.40/248.20. He beat Del Worsham in the first round, with a 5.26/262.31. In round two, an off pace 5.50/209.10 lost to Gary Bolger's 5.32/268. The non-points race, the NHRA Winston Invitational, was Bazemore's next stop. He ran a motor-blowing 5.53/198.23 to qualify last in the eight-car field, but the resulting fire from the blown engine did too much damage to the car and he was unable to run in eliminations. The car was repaired and ready for Atlanta and the NHRA Southern Nationals in late April. A 5.24/280.28 qualified #8. In the first round, the motor let go while beating Jim Epler with a 5.33/236.71 and he was unable to return for round two. Mid-May found the Fast Orange team at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals where they qualified #10 with a 5.51/272.14. Whit stepped it up to a 5.40/274.22 to beat Cruz Pedregon's 5.40/276 in the first round. A second round 5.43/269.62 lost to Wyatt Radke's 5.35/281. The following week (May 23), the NHRA tour was at Englishtown for the Mopar Parts Nationals. Whit ran 5.21/280.61 to qualify #7. In the first round, the car broke. The Probe's career came to an end at the NHRA Springnationals. There he had a bad fire and crash that left him with a mild concussion. He was out of a ride until July 10. That was when he first drove Johnny West's car.

Notes: Rick Howard photo from 1993 US Nats (Big Bud Shootout), Indy. Qualified 13th at 5.29/280.72 for Monday eliminations. Improved to 5.24/281.60, but lost to Al Hofmann in round one. (Qualified on the bump 8th spot in the Big Bud Shootout. Lost to John Force in round one). | Bazemore first drove for Johnny West on July 10 at the Parts Plus Nationals at US 131 Martin, Michigan. Four Funny Cars ran at the meet and Whit was declared the overall winner when he beat Jerry Caminito with a 5.65 and Gary Bolger with a 5.61 at a track speed record of 264.90. His next outing was at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. A 5.77/247.38 qualified #14, but a first-round 5.86/195.99 lost to Tom Hoover's 5.69/248. NHRA's next stop was at Sonoma for the California Nationals. There a 5.51/269.54 qualified #13. Whit lost to Cruz Pedregon in the first round. Bazemore qualified #10 at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals with a 5.27/284.09. A first-round 5.28/285.17 failed to get past Gordie Bonin's 5.24/281. At the NHRA Northstar Nationals, only fifteen cars showed for the sixteen spots available so qualifying was not a problem. Still, Whit ran 5.61/266.98 to qualify #12. A first-round 5.53/270.83 beat Hoover's 5.63/203. In the second round, Bazemore showed his driving skills when his 5.31/275.22 beat Hofmann's quicker and faster 5.26/280. His run came to an end in the semifinals where he lost to Cruz Pedregon.

Notes: Whit qualified #13 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 5.28/290.32. In the first round, he had problems and slowed to 6.14/159.71 in a loss to Cruz Pedregon's 5.12/278. In April, he was at Rockingham for the NHRA Invitational race. It was just an eight-car field, and his 5.22/285.98 qualified #7. A 5.24/284.27 beat Pedregon's 5.40/234 in the opening round, but he slowed to 6.02/164.05 in the semi-final while losing to Chuck Etchell's 5.35/269. Things did not go well at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He qualified #11 with a 5.29/274.55. In the first round, his 5.29/283.73 fell to Dean Skuza's 5.25/282. But as the car entered the speed traps, the rear tire blew out. The exploding tire shredded the body and damaged the chassis. We need to confirm that Whit ran these times in Whit's own car. He drove for John West, too. Check DragStats when we confirm which car ran at which race. Archived 5.225 at 285.98 in this car. Ran an identical 290.32 best speeds at Gainesville and Englishtown.

Notes: Rick Howard photo at 1996 US Nats, Indy. Fogged in by his own burnout smoke, Whit qualified 6th at 5.08/300.50 and was dropped by Del Worsham in round one. | Whit Bazemore got a new ride for '96. He replaced Gordie Bonin behind the wheel of the "Smokin' Joe's" Mustang. He ran really well at Pomona for the season opening NHRA Winternationals, where he qualified #4 with a 5.13/283.82. An even better 5.12/296.93 advanced in the first round, when Tom Hoover broke, but in round two his 5.28/265.48 lost to John Force's 5.11/297. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, Whit’s 5.17/290.69 qualified #6. He beat Al Hofmann in the opening round with a 5.20/273.22 and a second round 5.31/265.40 took out Gary Bolger. Unfortunately, he lost to Chuck Etchells in the semifinals. His next stop was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. A 5.17/280.63 qualified #9, but he fell off to a 5.84/195.48 in the opening round that lost to Cruz Pedregon's 5.21/268. Houston was the next stop on the NHRA tour for the Slick 50 Nationals. Bazemore qualified #14 with a 5.30/232.61. A first-round 5.45/228.54 did him no good against Hofmann's 5.09/298. The next event was the NHRA Winston Invitational at Rockingham. It was only an eight-car show and Whit qualified #7 with a 5.32/281.07. His 5.38/281.42 in the first round, lost to Pedregon's 5.22/293. A week later (April 21), he was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. The team was stuck in the 5.30s, only running a best of 5.38/279.06 to qualify #10. A first-round 5.37/286.89 narrowly beat Tim Wilkerson's 5.39/219. In round two, opponent Jeff Arend broke and Whit advanced with a 5.58/200.26. He then made his best run of the weekend, a 5.34/286.07, but it wasn't enough to beat Tony Pedregon's 5.05/296 in the semis.

Notes: Ray ran 6.825/204.08 at the Tulsa PRA race. He qualified fifth at the 1972 IHRA Nationals (Dallas International) with a 6.59. This was Raymond Beadle's first Funny Car ride. It was also the first Funny Car built by the chassis company, T-Bar. The owner of T-Bar, Henry Schroeder, built the 115" chassis as well as the aluminum sheet metal work. Owner Mike Burkhart spent $20,000 to put the car together. It was built in just 60 days. The Vega had an Ed Pink-built 426 Hemi that used a 1/2" stroker crank from Moldex to give it a displacement of 484 cubic inch M/T rods held Forgedtrue pistons. The cam was from Crowe. A Cragar blower drive and manifold were used, and Marc Danekas prepared the GMC 6/71. On top sat an Enderle injection unit. A Lenco two-speed delivered the power, but to a 5.14 to the ground. Larry Sellers sprayed on the purple, yellow, and white paint. National Dragster stated in an article that Beadle had driven this car to a best of 6.51 in '73.

Notes: After driving for Mike Burkhart in '72, Raymond Beadle jumped behind the wheel of one of Don Schumacher's ‘Cudas in '73. He was at Beeline in January for the AHRA Winternationals where he qualified #17 in the 32 car field with a 6.71/222.22. A first-round 6.94/176.81 lost to Pat Foster's 6.57/231. Things didn't go so well at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. There were 58 cars trying to qualify for the sixteen-car field and Raymond's best was good for the tenth alternate. Early in June he was at Denver's Century 21 Raceway for the AHRA Springnationals. He qualified #4 in the sixteen-car field with a 6.85 and in the opening round, beat Charlie Therwhanger with a 6.83/207.85. A second round 6.82 took out Larry Christopherson, but he lost to the race's eventual winner Dale Pulde driving Mickey Thompson's Grand Am, in the semifinals. He went to Tri-City soon after that, for a best of three match with the "King Cobra" which saw Beadle win three straight with times of 7.15/199.55, 6.84/206.42, and a solo 6.76/217.39. Early in July he won the AHRA Grand American race at Kansas City. He qualified #3 with a 6.70 then ran 6.88 to beat Gene Snow. In round two he stopped Cogo Eads with a 6.67. In the semifinals, he was matched against Don Prudhomme. The "Snake" lost oil pressure and had to shut off so Beadle soloed into the final. There he ran Jim Nicoll and both had traction problems, but Raymond's 7.39/223.88 got the victory over Jim's 7.59/189. | He ran 6.67/224.70 at the Lebanon Valley Coke race.
