Notes: Herm qualified #9 at Pomona for the Winternationals at 6.838/206.42. He beat Denver Schutz in round one, 6.94/202.70 to 8.26/98.00. Jimmy King ended his day in round two, 6.93/213.77 to 7.40/213.77. Herm qualified #20 at the Dallas Springnationals at 6.741/209.79. He won round one over Gerry Glenn, 6.70/221.13 to 6.72/213.44, and then won round two when Jim Harnsberger lost fire. Herm took a 10.18/78.00 victory lap. Herm again coasted to victory in round three at 10.04/82.04 after Jim Nicoll fouled (14.75/55.04). Herm lost to a John Wiebe holeshot in the semis, 6.65/207.85 to 6.61/220.04. At the Englishtown Summernationals, Herm set the pace with a low qualifying 6.661 at 217.39. He won round one, then Ted Thomas went off the track and was disqualified; Herm ran 6.85/195.65.
