Notes: The monocoque-chassised wedge was a personal project of John Buttera and aluminum man Louie Teckenoff. Buttera sold it to Setzer when the famed chassis man realized he didn't have pockets deep enough to either purchase an engine or properly campaign the car. Setzer, a satisfied customer with a winning Buttera-built Vega funny, bought the car for $15,000. The completed car appeared on the October '72 cover of Drag Racing USA (and the September issue of Hot Rod, which actually hit the newstands after DRU). Pat Foster's son Cole recounted to Phil Burgess in NHRA Insider that the "very beautiful" car was ill-handling and unpredictable, and it was retired after a small number of runs, some of which were full-track. Owner Setzer donated the work of art to the Garlits museum. - RT | Pat Foster: "It was an evil shitbox that wouldn't handle down track." - BP |
