Notes: Also ran 7.61 at 200.04 as a true J/F car. 307 CI unblown on nitro. I owned the car and Barry Kaplan drove it. - Steve K. | Barry won over an eight-car field at Lions on July 5. He qualified #7 with a 7.79 and in round one, his 7.83/173.73 beat Dan Geiger. In the semifinals, he took a big win when his 7.72/176.47 got around low qualifier Don Enriquez. In the final, Kaplan faced Richard Catton. It was a close race, but Barry's 7.75/187.85 beat Richard's 7.77/193. At the PDA Championships on July 19 at OCIR, Barry qualified with a 7.91. He improved to 7.79 to win his first-round race and an even better 7.66 won in round two. He faced Bob Downey in the semifinals and once again he improved, this time a 7.61 got the win. That put him into the finals against Don Enriquez. Barry ran well, but his 7.68/191.48 was good for the runner-up spot to Don's 7.34/203. On August 2 he was back at OCIR for an eight-car show. He qualified #4 with a 7.84 and in the first round, he advanced when Fred Kraemer shut off on the line with a fuel leak. In the semifinals, he lost to Billy Tidwell's 7.66/197 with a 7.73/188.28. |
