Notes: Ran Clutchflite trans for part of the year. Ran 9.936/139.75 (Low ET and Top Speed) at York Summernationals, 9.95 at Dallas Finals, 9.97 at Indy Nationals. Qualified second at NHRA Ontario 11/21/70 at 9.963/138.24 (behind Ronnie Sox at 9.89/139). Runner up at Popular Hot Rodding meet with a 10.08. The 9.869 was on a redlight to Sox. Ran at 9.94 Indy. | Dick was at Indianapolis on July 12 for the third NHRA Division 3 race. While he failed to reach the finals, he did set a new NHRA Pro Stock ET record of 9.94. The following week (July 19), he qualified #1 at the NHRA Summernationals with his 9.936/139.53 times (Low ET). He beat alternate Mike Fons in the first round, with a 9.98/139.53 and in the second round, his 9.96/139.75 (Top Speed) beat Arlen Vanke. In the semifinals, Oldfield's 10.08/133.96 lost to eventual winner Dick Landy's 10.01/137. He was at Donnybrooke on July 26 for the NHRA Division 4 race. Dick ran 10.10/135.74 and 10.11/136.15 to beat Charlie Jacobs and Dick Loehr to reach the final. He faced Bobby Yowell in the final, and he set Low ET and Top Speed in taking the win with a 10.07/136.36 over Yowell's 10.44/133. |
