Notes: AKA Larry "LASH" Hendrickson. Also ran 233.76 at Bremerton Raceway, 7/70, 6.59/229.59 MPH at Fremont 10th Annual Fall Championships in 10/70, and 223.88 Top Speed at NHRA Ontario Supernationals 11/70. Ran 232.55 MPH National Record at Mission 7/11/70. Where did this car go 6.49? Ran 6.59 at Fremont. | Larry was at Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet. He qualified #18 in the 32 car field with a 6.99. He fouled against Gerry Glenn in the first round. On May 24, he was at the NHRA Division 6 race at Bremerton. A 6.90/212.26 qualified #3 in the eight-car field. Unfortunately, he lost fire on the line in the first round, giving Herm Petersen a single into the semifinal. Larry reset the NHRA speed record to 232.55 on July 13 at Mission Raceway in BC. It came at the third Division 6 race. Larry advanced past the first-round when Don Kohut fouled, but his 7.10/229.00 lost to Glen Foster in round two. At the fourth Division 6 race at Deer Park on July 26, Hendrickson qualified #4 with a 7.06. Foster fouled against him in the first round, and in the semifinals, his 7.03/185.56 lost to Dick Kalivoda's 6.90/212. The Division 6 final was run at Seattle on August 22. Larry qualified #1 and set Low ET and Top Speed in the first round, with a 6.74/235.60 over Bob Mitchell. But in round two, he blazed the tires to a 7.59/218.97 that lost to Hank Johnson's 6.85/219. Larry got a win on September 26 at the Fremont Fallnationals. It was an eight-car show, and in the first round, he beat Herm Petersen's 6.75/193 with a 6.71/213.28. He set Low ET and Top Speed in the semifinals with a 6.59/229.00 over Don Prudhomme's 6.81. In the final, he took the victory with a 7.09/205.94 over Jim Davis. | Best NHRA national event times were 6.791/217.39. |
