Notes: Joe did not compete at any NHRA Nationals events early in the season. His first race of '84 was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. Shortly after that, he was at Maple Grove for the Super Stock Nationals. It was an eight-car field, and his 7.80/175.78 qualified #6. In the opening round of eliminations, Anderson lost to the eventual winner Ken Dondero. He also went to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals and Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but he failed to qualify for both. He skipped going to Denver and Brainerd, but he was back on the NHRA tour for the US Nationals at Indy. He qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car field with a 7.83. Unfortunately, he lost to Gordie Rivera in the first round. Did Joe run 7.705/178.57 at a match race? Originally listed in 1984, but does not match Steve Klemetti's stats which say Joe ran 7.75/177 best times in 1985. Best NHRA national event times in 1984 were the 7.808 first alternate at the Summers and 177.86 at Indy.
