Notes: The chassis was built by Jim Nelson, Body by Kenny Ellis, engine by Red O'Donnell. Butch was at Lions on September 3 for an eight-car show. In the opening round, his 7.62/190.66 beat Bob Downey's 7.95/172. He improved to 7.56/207.84 in the semifinal, taking out Rick Stewart's 7.64/212. He faced James Warren in the final, and Warren fouled, giving Maas the victory. He was at Irwindale on September 23 for NHRA's final Division Seven race. It was a sixteen-car field, and his 7.47 qualified #3. In the first round, he was upset by Bob Muravez's 7.45 in Don Johnson's "Beachcomber." He also competed at Irwindale's Grand Prix race on October 22. This was a 32 car field, and his 7.37/193.22 advanced when Leland Kolb shut down in round one. In the second round, he lost to Warren. Not long after this, he was behind the wheel of the "Atlas Oil Tool" car. |
