Notes: Real Chevrolet Chevelle. He took on Ford superstar Hubert Platt at Southeastern International. The Chevelle failed to fire in the first race, so Platt ran a solo 10.61 to win. The second race saw the Mustang go into a huge wheelstand while Woods ran 10.17 to win. In the final race, Bobby reset his own track record from 9.62 to 9.58 while winning the match. Woods was really impressive at Biloxi, where he beat Ronnie Sox in a best-of-three-match race. Sox got out first in their first race, and his 10.14 held on to win. In their second race, Sox again got the jump, but ever so slowly, the Chevelle drove past for the win at 9.41/142.40. Bobby got out of shape but never lifted in the final race, catching Sox and winning with a 10.03. This was unusual for the time as the Chevies were underdogs compared to the factory-backed efforts from both Mopar and Ford. Bobby ran a best two out of three match race against Darrell Droke on May 7 at Birmingham, Alabama. The heavy winds caused the track officials to shorten the track to 1,000 feet. Wood won the match with a 9.15 best. The two had a rematch on May 14 at Biloxi the following week. Darrell came out on top when Wood was plagued with ignition problems this time. He managed to win one of the three races when Droke fouled in the second race. Woods faced Larry Reyes, driving the "Kingfish" Barracuda at Old Dominion Speedway early in July. Woods won their first race with a 6.22, but he lost the two remaining races and the match.
