Notes: Rollie Lindblad built this chassis for Ken Riehle; originally planned to be a fuel altered, hence the wheelbase. Ken Riehle owned: the Riehle and Mayo Nova (Former CKC car), the Hellfire Camaro (r/e Camaro, driven by Lew Arrington), and was partners with Kosty Ivanof for a while (you can find many photos of the Vega with Ken's name on them). Ken was talked out of the chassis somehow by Willie Hardie, a journeyman Top Fuel racer who beat Garlits once back in the day. Hardie built the Vega you see here, originally sponsored by D&D speed centers; they had a bunch of cars with matching American flag-themed paint jobs, including the Love American Style Vega panel wagon modified production car. The first time I ever went down a race track in anything was in the tow vehicle for this Vega on a very cold day at Connecticut Dragway. The car was later sold/given/? to Bob Beaulieu (the Jazz jet cars et al.) and run as Lil America BB/FC, a notoriously ill-handling car. It was kind of like a shopping cart with a blower. I have no idea where it went from Bob's garage. So there you have it. Regards, William Horton |
