Notes: Yuill qualified #6 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with an 8.46/158.29. His 8.51/158.73 beat Gene Fasching's 8.70/156 in round one. In round two, his 8.59/158.17 fell to Lee Shepherd's 8.46/159. On May 9, Mark was at OCIR for the NHRA Western Regional race. He qualified #1 for the eight-car field with an 8.64/157.06. In the opening round, he improved to 8.60/157.34 to beat a fouling Butch Leal. Another 8.60/158.45 advanced in the semifinal when Terry Sherrill fouled against him. He faced Harry Scribner in the final, and Harry had just set Low ET in his semifinal win with an 8.59. But Mark ran his third straight 8.60 at 159.01 to get the victory over Harry's slowing 8.91/133. Mark was at Baton Rouge later in May for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. It was an eight-car field, and his 8.59 best failed to qualify. Western Regional Champion 1981. Defeated Bob Glidden in Round 2 of the OCIR World Finals at 8.49/158.17 and made it to the semis. Ran a lot of 8.40s and 8.50s this year. Best times of 8.447 at the Finals and 161.00 at the Winters. |
