Notes: Speelman qualified #4 at Englishtown on May 4 for the NHRA Division One opener with a 6.39/226.70. In the opening round, his 6.41/227.27 beat Jerry Caminito's 6.75/221. In the semi-final, his 6.30/222.22 defeated Al Hofmann's 6.82/189. He faced Bruce Larson in the final, and John's 6.43/229.59 got the victory over Larson's off-pace 7.47/136. John was in New England on August 17 for the final NHRA Division One race. His 6.42/221.67 qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field. In the first round, he improved to a 6.30/223.32, which surprised Roy Harris, who lost with a 6.36/231. In the semifinal, he had problems and shut down to an 11.59 loss to Rick Johnson's 6.10/235. |

Notes: The first 290 mph Funny Car in the sport at Ennis 1991 with a 290.13 blast. Wes Cerny's 290 mph tuning skills on this car caught the attention of Kenny Bernstein, who hired him for the 1992 season, resulting in the sport's first 300 mph run. Photo from Indy 1991. | Jim qualified #1 at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with track records of 5.25/278.63. The team was running a new engine set-up that used Leonard Hughes cylinder heads with Wes Cerny's tune up. They actually qualified with their "old" engine and switched to the "new" combination for eliminations. A first-round 5.39/277.26 stopped Gary Litton's 5.58/259. In round two, Dominic Santucci lost to White's 5.36/273.63 and a semifinal 5.33/272.89 beat Mark Oswald, who smoked the tires and shut off. He faced Mike Dunn in the final. Their times in eliminations had been close, but White's 5.39/263.77 finished second best to Dunn's 5.34/275. The "Hawaiian" team followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals where, once again, Jim qualified #1 with track records of 5.34/274.72. The field was short, so White got the "odd-lot" solo in the first round, and ran 5.35/274.72 (again!) He was flexing the car's power as that was easily Low ET of the opening round. In round two, he downed Ed McCulloch with a 5.41/255.39 and a semifinal 5.44/270.83 beat Al Hofmann, whose car broke an A-arm on the run. He came up against John Force in the final. White had been running a tenth faster than Force. Jim got the victory with a 5.54/271.90 when Force tried to match the "Hawaiian's" times and put too much power into it and smoked the tires. Jim continued to set track records at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. His 5.18 track record at 280.19 (Top Speed) qualified #1 for the third straight NHRA event. An opening round 5.39/273.47 beat Gary Bolger's 5.53/261 and a 5.38/276.66 beat Santucci's close 5.38/272 in round two. But in the semifinals, White blew an engine and slowed to a 5.70/193.88, losing to eventual winner Del Worsham's 5.37/272. The team's combination didn't work quite as well at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. Jim’s 5.50/263.00 qualified #4 and he was upset in the first round, when Richard Hartman's 5.71/255 got the better of his 5.74/249.30. Jim's 291.82 at the World Finals was the Top Speed of the entire meet, including the Top Fuelers. |

Notes: Dennis won Maple Grove's Spring FC Nationals. In the final, his 6.88/197.80 beat Carol Henson's quicker 6.82/202. Not long after that (June 5), he was at Maryland International for the third NHRA Division One race. His 6.90/199.11 qualified #4, but he slowed to 7.04/197.80 in the opening round and lost to Carol Burkett's 6.90/198. He was back at Maple Grove on June 26 for the fourth Division One race. A 6.79/201.34 qualified #6, and in the first round, his 6.85/197.36 fell to eventual winner Dick Bell's 6.64/201. The former Jersey Stud machine. |

Notes: Harry was at Atco in June for its FC showdown. He lost a blower belt in the opening round, but his 8.95/93.96 beat Bob Caruso. He could not return for the second round and was replaced in the show by Carl Ruth. But after changing the belt, he came out for a consolation race against Joe Shubert and beat him with a 7.01/199.55. The former Brad Anderson Dart rebodied. Info from Mike and Ken Hall, Harry's sons. |

Notes: The car was run through 1983. Scott Weney licensed in the car and the motor let go on his last license run. Harry sold the car as a roller to Jim Hamil of Colorado who renamed it the Cowtown Hooker. Harry took the money from that, rebuilt the engine, and sold it to Nick Boninfante. - Ken Hall | Note S&W Race Cars on the spoiler, but this was the rebodied former Brad Anderson Dart (his first one). |
