Notes: Melvin Arnold Madden (called M. A.), the owner of a poultry processing plant in Anniston, Alabama, built Willys gassers, all of which he named "Chicken Picker." His second car, a locally competitive injected small-block Chevy-powered B/G car in the mid-1960s, had been a '40 Willys coupe that he called "Chicken Picker II." His third Willys gasser, which he first called "Chicken Picker II, " ran in B/G and C/G in 1967. It was a unique '38 Willys 4-door sedan with a '40 Willys front end. In 1968 he would freshen it up with a new paint job and a new name (sort of) called "The Chicken Picker." By then, his son, Bill, was 18 years old and took over driving his dad's car. He turned out to be very good at it, garnering a couple of national records right out of the gate, but in 1967, dad did the driving.
