Notes: Both Buckel and Jim Thornton drove this car. Was sold early-mid 1966 to Bob Harrop. Ran fuel, and at times, ran gas. We need best times for gas. - DD |

Notes: Both Buckel and Jim Thornton drove this car as members of the Ramchargers team. Acid-dipped at AeroChem, it was raced in 2% A/FX form at the 1965 Winternationals, then converted to full AWB status. Ran gas, later fuel, and was the factory test bed for some of the Hilborn injector development. Car is noted for clocking the first 8-second doorslammer time slip at 8.910/148.66 at Cecil County on August 7/1965 (Thornton driving - 50% fuel, 472" stroker). This was after an accident Buckel had at Detroit Dragway during the team's first attempt at running nitro a weekend prior. That flip crushed the acid-dipped roof and rear quarters. Alexander Brothers rebuilt it quickly, so the car was still in primer during the record-setting run. Buckel could have run better numbers than this, as 150.50 mph in a for sale ad, a 9.83 at 140+ mph at Milan, a 9.36/146.00 at Ubly and a 157.00 at Detroit are all attributed to the car, but driver is not listed. Those were run either by Buckel or Jim Thornton. (6/12/65 Drag News) |
