Notes: Pete Fullerton and Gary Benedict owned the car from 1972/1975. It had the original BB Chevy L-88 Hi-perf block bored to 440, Enderle injection, TH-400, and was running in A/FA. It wore Tempest badges and taillights, not GTO. Logghe chassis with full fiberglass body, and lift off front, it was beautifully built and detailed by Tom Dempsey. The body was originally built for Arnie Beswick by Fiberglass Ltd, but he did not like that it was a Tempest (vs. GTO) and did not like the blue windows, so the body was sold to Dempsey for this car's build. The car weighed 1620 pounds wet. We ran it for time and exhibition runs at Great Lakes Dragstrip in Union Grove WI a few times before we sold it. We raced with 30-40% nitro purchased from Don Schumacher (thanks Don!) We have additional pictures if interested. The car was sold in early 1975 to a group in Chicago. Shortly after the sale, one of the new owners destroyed the car in a street racing incident. Unfortunately the car no longer exists. |
