Notes: Bobby tried his hand at nitro funny car racing in 1997 and had a pretty rough go of it. He attempted to qualify at four NHRA national events and didn't make the field at any. He ran 7.314/121.26 at the Winters, 8.936/92.63 at Gainesville, No Times Recorded at St. Louis (which may have been a decent run - anybody got the info?) Bobby converted to a top fuel car for his final national event - the NHRA World Finals. |

Notes: Jim qualified on the "bump" with a 6.086/250.97 at Pomona for the Winternationals. in the first round, an off pace 6.189/226.47 lost to Rick Johnson's 5.66/259. On April 6, he was at Firebird Raceway for the Coors Funny Car Championships. His 6.08/245.23 in the opening round beat a tire-smoking Tom McEwen. In his second race, he ran another 6.08 at 243.90, but he lost to John Force's blower popping 5.82/247. He was at Bakersfield in May for the "March Meet." Jim's 6.10/245.90 qualified #5 in the eight-car field. That set up a first-round meeting with Rick Johnson, driving the "Hawaiian." Unfortunately, Dunn smoked the tires, and eventual winner Johnson advanced with a 5.76/252. Had tragic wreck at Nitefire Nationals in Boise, ID in '85 where a spectator was killed after the car went through the wire fence and throttle got hung up. We formerly listed 6.05 for Jim this year. Removing that until we get confirmation. |

Notes: Ivanof qualified #14 at the NHRA Gatornationals with a 6.17/233.16. In the first round, he beat Gary Burgin's 6.77/194 with a 6.32/229.59. Unfortunately, he lost to eventual winner Frank Hawley in the "Chi-Town Hustler in round two." He was in Atlanta for an eight-car show in early April, and he beat John Pott in Larry Coogle's "Sting" in the first round, before losing to Dale Pulde in the semifinals. He was back in Atlanta on April 25 for the NHRA Southern Nationals, but his best of 6.23/233.16 was good for the fourth alternate. He was the first alternate with a 6.20/230.76 at National Trail for the NHRA Springnationals. Kosty was at Maple Grove for the Super Stock Magazine Nationals at the end of June. He had a good race with Kenny Bernstein in the first round, but his 6.23/228.42 finished second best to Kenny's 6.17/226. Kosty was at Englishtown for the Crazy Eddie Night of Thrills event in July. He ran well, setting Low ET and Top Speed at 6.13/238.72. He went on to win the event, beating Paul Smith in the final with a 6.73/231.36. |

Notes: In January, Chris was at Firebird Raceway for its Super Bowl of Drag Racing event. It was an eight-car show, and his 7.88 qualified on the "bump." He ran a great 5.75/221.13 in the opening round, but it wasn't enough to beat Don Prudhomme's 5.69/257. The following week, Lane was the second alternate at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.786/244.69. His next national event was the Fallnationals in Phoenix, where he was the fourth alternate at 5.890/228.31. Chris qualified on the bump spot at the Pomona Finals at 5.620/239.74. In round one, he lost to John A. Martin, 5.49/268 to 5.815/236.03. Chris ran 5.70 at 259 in 1988 match racing action. |

Notes: Frank was the second alternate at NHRA Gainesville with his best times of the year, 6.098/237.46. He qualified on the "bump" at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals with a 6.150/222.77. In the opening round of eliminations, he got crossed up and shut off to 8.52/88.06, which lost to Mark Oswald's 6.19/240. Frank ran 6.335 at Sanair for the sixth alternate slot. He also went to Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, but he experienced a big fire in qualifying (times not reported). That was the team's last NHRA national event of the year. Notes: This car debuted in '67. John Farkonas built the 120.5" frame. The Barracuda body came from Fiberglass Ltd, and it was interesting to note that it had no spoilers. A stock-sized 426 Hemi powered the car, and it used Venolian 8.5:1 pistons on stock Chrysler rods. Engle supplied the cam. An M/T manifold supported the Latus-built blower that was overdriven 33%. The 80% nitro was fed to the engine by a Hilborn injection unit. A TorqueFlite transmission supplied the power back to a Mopar rear housing 3.61 gears. | Minick was at Detroit on June 28 for the Midwest Funny Car Championships. It was a sixteen-car field, and his opening round 8.12/172.08 beat Dick Loehr. A second-round 8.13/173.74 lost to eventual winner Fred Goeske's 7.87/169. On July 30, the team was at Gary, Indiana, for an eight-car show. Unfortunately, a first-round 7.99/182.56 lost to eventual winner Loehr's 7.80/188. Pat raced at Minneapolis for an eight-car show on September 1. An easy 9.00/154.10 advanced past the first-round when Terry Hedrick fouled away a 7.89/180. In the semifinals, a 7.93/186.32 beat the Chapman Camaro, and in the final, he met Tommy Grove's Comet. Tom's 7.71/191 beat Pat's 8.12/181.44. He faced Roger Lindamood's "Color Me Gone" Charger on September 14 at Hollywood, Florida, for a best of three match. Minick won two straight with times of 9.81/95.44 and 8.25/177.46 over a bad handling Lindamood. The 'Cuda broke before their third race. Another best of three match was run at Connecticut on October 27 against Bill Lawton. Bill's track record 7.66 at 187.88 won the first race over Minick's 7.92/185.94. Pat came back to even the score in the second race with a 7.81/187.88 over Lawton, who got out of shape. In the deciding race, Bill won with a 7.68/192 over Minick's 7.76/187.50. |

Notes: Ronny ran four NHRA national events this year. He was the fourth alternate at Memphis at 6.987/142.11. Young qualified on the "bump" for the NHRA Western Auto Nationals at 5.615/264.62. In round one, he lost to number one qualifier John Force, 5.07/291 to 5.695/193.88. It was deja vu at the Heartland Nationals, where he again qualified on the bump with a 5.380/266.58. In the first round, he slowed to 5.561/211.91 in a loss to low qualifier Force's 4.95/297. Ronny attempted to qualify at the NHRA Chief Nationals in October, but his 5.408/247.38 best was good for the second alternate. |

Notes: Photo was taken by a fan at SLIR. The car at this time was direct drive with no reverser. We used a Scheiffer 3 disc slider clutch and pushed it back after the burnouts. | Ran 6.87/245.3 according to handout. Bret said the speed came from Orlando, which was notorious for bogus speeds at times in the 70s. We will keep the 6.87 and look for a legit speed. |
