...if it comes down to Goosebumps, nothing I've done beats the A.M. of my first Cali Hot Rod Reunion ....dawn at Bakersfield, walking through the gate and immediately into Joaquin Arnett and the Bean Bandits' pit area 8)

I had the best times of my life in Dickinson, Texas at Houston International Speedway. The strip was owned by Carl Gay, founder of Gay Pontiac and father of Don and Roy Gay. He booked top teams and the place was packed every time. I saw a lot of fantastic drag racing there from all over the country, back in the day. Top Fuel, all classes...I witnessed the evolution of Funny Car from the beginning up to where it is now, and the local racers that ran there consistently ran well below the National Record numbers. I suppose since this is DragLIST, I could list the names, many are instantly recognizeable icons, others were unique to the Texas circuit and the South in general...but I can say for sure I wouldn't be here posting this if I hadn't had those experiences, and they shine like gold in my memory. In my world, in my life, in my story, it was Houston International Speedway, with all respects to all others. As I said earlier, I believe it is an individual choice. Cheers, WC1
